Student applications of any religion, race, color, and national or ethnic origin are accepted.

The fifth grade class hosted a Presidential Breakfast for their families. They dressed up like Presidents, First Ladies or campaign managers. The program started with an instru-mental version of the America the Beautiful played by fifth grade students and then it was followed by a fellow fifth grade student singing the same song. Instead of an oral report by each of the students, the students played the role of their President. They were interviewed by par-ents, faculty and students from the eighth grade. Each of them had to give reasons why their President deserved to be on Mount Rushmore. After the interview process con-

cluded parents and eighth graders had a chance to vote for the President they felt gave the best argument for being on Mount Rush-more. Parents and stu-dents were then treated to a delicious breakfast. There was a tie between John F. Kennedy and George W. Bush. The two winners went on to write President Obama a letter to let him know about their class project and the outcome.

HE IS REAL It is clear in today’s Gospel that the risen Jesus is not a ghost or an illusion. Jesus proves this by inviting the disciples to touch his hands and feet and by eating a piece of fish. Then he gives them a task: to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins “to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem” (Acts 24:49). This is not “Give a few hours of your time, and you’re done,” but a life-long task. They were his chosen followers, but they are now apostles, sent out on a mission. Whenever we celebrate the Eucharist, we are offered the love of God through word and sacrament. We are reminded of God’s saving deeds and wonderful promises, and we are given food for the journey. Finally, we are urged to go forth to love and serve the Lord. What mission is Christ calling you to fulfill, that only you can do? Copyright © 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

ANNUAL MINISTRIES APPEAL (AMA) 2012: Thank you to the 164 families who have already pledged $43,951.24 to support the mission of the diocese and the parish to teach, preach, minister and serve in the name of Jesus through their financial contribution to the 2012 Annual Ministries Appeal (AMA). We will bring our appeal to an “official” close at the end of the month. If each family participated by pledging $250, in addition to supporting the many diocesan ministries, we could cover the cost of our new carpet and still make a sizable reduction in the debt that remains on the Cislini Youth Center. No gift is too small … or too large! If you have not yet made your pledge, you may do so over the next few weekends (drop in the collection basket or mail them to the parish office (22 Stone St., Salinas CA 93901). Pledges may be paid in full or over eight (8) months. If using an envelope other than the pledge envelope, please clearly mark it AMA (if enclosing cash … please put your name, address and phone number on the en-velope). One important change on the pledge envelope – on the line that says “Parish Name” please write in the follow-ing: Sacred Heart Church – 426.

WORLD YOUTH DAY - World Youth Day is the greatest concentration of young people in the world. Thousands of young people respond every two to three years to the Pope´s call to go on pilgrimage to a city of the world and manifest their faith in Christ. Rio de Janeiro 2013 will host the next World Youth Day. There have been many youth encounters throughout the years. Specifically, there have been eleven international WYDs in different locations throughout the world. Rio 2013, therefore, will be the twelfth international WYD to be held since Pope John Paul II instituted the event on December 20, 1985. WYD 2013 will take place July 19-29, 2013. The total cost from San Francisco is $3,893. For more information, contact: Fr. Edwin Limpiado & Theresa Allion of the Diocese of Monterey, 831-373-4345, [email protected] or [email protected].

With the introduction of the new Roman Missal, there have been some changes to the Mass, and we felt that this was the right time to have training sessions for current ministers and people who may want to become ministers.

We have scheduled two training sessions for each of the ministries. Attendance at one of these sessions is required for all those who wish to continue to serve in our parish. All sessions meet in the church.

The dates for the sessions are:

Eucharistic Ministers: Tuesday, April 24th, 7:00 pm and Sunday, April 29th, 3:00 pm

Lectors: Monday, April 16th, 7:00 pm and Sunday, April 22nd, 3:00 pm

Sacristans: Saturday, April 28th, 2:00 pm and Monday, April 30th, 7:00 pm

Con la introducción del nuevo Misal Romano, ha habido algunos cambios en la Misa, y creemos que este es el mejor momento para tener sesiones de entrenamiento para los Ministros actuales y para las personas que quieran ser Ministros.
