A MESSAGE FROM YOUR STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
The Stewardship Committee of St. Luke’s would like to join our Priest-in-charge, Gayle, in inviting you “to prayerfully consider all that God has given you and see how the Holy Spirit is calling you to share God’s abundance through giving.”
You may have seen the emoji’s we have chosen for the campaign. They symbolize St. Luke’s: One Heart, One Home, One Community. We hope they will help us all to remember the myriad ways in which we have been blessed and to learn about the opportunities we have to share those blessings with others.
First, the “Blessings bag”. In the narthex, we have placed two bags. One has blank cards in it. We all know we are blessed in many ways, but let’s think specifically about our blessings. Please take a blank card, write down a blessing, and put it in the second bag- the “Blessings bag”. The blessings will then be displayed on the board.
Second, there is a display of photos of St. Luke’s living, doing and serving as a community. Please enjoy these photos - they are inspiring!
Finally, our goal for this campaign is 100 percent participation. We have made pledge cards abundantly available as you have likely noticed. Please pray about your offering of your time, talent and money. The cards can be placed in the alms basin with your offering on Sundays, mailed to the parish office, made online at www.estlukes.org, or brought to the November 15th Ministry Fair and Ingathering. For every pledge we will put a hand on the “hand board” in the narthex. This board will serve as a reminder of all the hands we have helping with our mission to serve. Everyone’s hands and gifts are needed.
During this season of stewardship, please join us in gratitude and service- as we are called to do by Christ.
Gratefully, Nancy and John Caterina, Megan and Jason Cole, and Roy Langsdon
Sunday November 15th there will be a Ministry Fair and Ingath-ering in the Parish Hall between the 8 and 10:30 services. Come and learn how we are serving each other and our community and how you can help us serve better. Snacks will be available. We will be col-lecting pledges of time, talents and gifts as well as collecting food for RIFA. November is “canned ham month” for our RIFA collections so please lend “a helping Ham” if you are able.

SAINTS ALIVE!
A huge thank you goes out to John and Anne Garrard for
hosting the October Saints Alive! Everyone enjoyed the great
fellowship.
CHILDREN’S CORNER by Donna Agnew, Director of Christian Education
Saturday, 11/21 9-2 Fall "Camp Out" 4-10 year olds 25 spots Music, games, crafts, drama, snack and lunch $25/child, discount for multiple children Will need 4 workers for this (not including me). Would be great if we could offer nursery (just for SL families). This is same day as USJ Holiday Mart (at Civic Center) - a HUGE event for Jackson Moms.
Should be able to cover cost of 6 workers, food and supplies and come out even.
Purpose - provide a fun day of learning and making new friends while Moms get a break to prepare for Thanksgiving!!!
Feast of St. Nick - Wednesday, 12/2 - family dinner, visit from St. Nick and advent crafts
Decorating Advent Tree - there is huge tree with white lights that was put in hall outside of library last year (Thanksgiving weekend). Would love to start decorating this on 11/30 (as a churchwide event?).
Children to sing on Christmas Eve at early service - we will begin practicing in Children's Church the first Sunday of Advent. Will probably have a "special practice" the week before Christmas.
A great BIG THANK YOU to Phil & Peggy Bogard for hosting the Men’s Literary Guild on October 11th! A great time was had by all.
BABY SHOWER FOR AUTUMN ROGERS
We are planning a baby shower for Autumn Rogers! Dan and Autumn will be celebrating the birth of their baby boy at the end of November and we would love to shower Autumn with a parish-wide baby shower after church on Sunday, November 8th. Join us for a luncheon at noon in the parish hall. Autumn is registered at Target and Babies R Us. IOU's for a dinner after the baby comes make a great gift too! For more information contact Lindsay Wilhite at 423-304-1224 or at [email protected].
THANKSGIVING DAY SERVICE By The Rev. Gayle McCarty
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to
clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger
into a friend”
Melody Beattie, Author
Come join us for our Thanksgiving Day Eucharist at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 26. (Note that this is a change from the date and time of the service in recent years.)
Let us gather and worship together and give thanks for all our many blessings. Our youth, the EYC, will decorate the altar with food for our partner in ministry, the ComeUnity Café. This food will be used for the meals at ComeUnity Café the next week.
Bring family and friends and let us “turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend” Amen. Amen.

SENIOR WARDEN REPORT by Larry Greer
In its regular monthly meeting on October 15, the Vestry voted unanimously to remedy a safety issue posed by the varying levels of the patio outside the Commons and eliminate a code violation which was cited following the completion of recent renovations. The work will result in raising the level of the patio to a height uniform with both entrances into the building. Funding for the project will be provided through savings derived from the elimination of a component from the air conditioning replacement work currently underway. The AC project was initiated following recommendations from an energy survey conducted earlier in the year and is projected to produce significant savings on energy costs. The Vestry allocated funds for the project from proceeds from the endowment fund; no money from the operating budget was used for this purpose.
In other action, the Vestry unanimously approved a two-year extension of the lease of the building occupied by Area Relief Ministries at the nominal fee of one dollar. Although it does not involve the flow of dollars and is not reflected in the budget, this arrangement is a significant component of St. Luke’s community outreach ministry by providing a facility to A.R.M. that is essentially rent-free.
The Vestry strives to carry out its charge in a responsive, responsible manner. Parishioners are encouraged to share suggestions or concerns with a Vestry member for consideration. Vestry meetings are open, and parishioners are welcome to attend.
The Parish Office will be closed Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th in observance of
Thanksgiving.
The next vestry meeting is Wednesday, November 18th.

SERVANTHOOD by The Rev. Deacon Tommy Rhoads
This month's mission partner focus is on ComeUnity Cafe. Right across the street from St. Luke's, the Cafe opens its door wide to all who want a healthy meal. Their mission is "to build community by providing nutritious and delicious food made with as much organically, locally and sustainably grown ingredients as possible to all people of Jackson regardless of their ability to pay."
In order to help the Cafe achieve their mission, St. Luke's has allowed them to transform the church's vacant lot into a beautiful urban garden. This past summer that garden helped supplement the kitchen's need for various herbs, lettuce, kale, tomatoes, beans, peas, green onions, figs, blueberries, and blackberries, as well as a beautiful variety of flowers to adorn the tables.
St. Luke's supports ComeUnity Cafe in other ways too. Many of our parishioners volunteer in the Cafe, taking orders, serving meals, and busing tables. This month Gayle+ and I are going to begin volunteering every second Friday during the lunch hour. And St. Luke's has been pleased to host The Dirt Pilgrims in their fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Cafe.
ComeUnity Cafe is the only nonprofit restaurant in Jackson. They have only two full-time paid staff; the day-to-day operation is run by volunteers. Patrons have the option of paying for their meals, or if you are unable to pay, you may volunteer to work for one hour in the restaurant for your meal. Everybody at ComeUnity Cafe believes that every human innately has dignity and should be treated as such, and that everybody deserves a healthy, delicious meal. The Cafe's motto is "to love, to feed, to dignify."
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Volunteer hours are from 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. For more information, visit their website at comeunitycafe.org or at facebook.com/ComeUnityCafe.
HOLIDAY HAMS FOR SENIORS by The Rev. Deacon Tommy Rhoads
The Regional Interfaith Association (RIFA) is partnering with West Madison County Senior Center to provide shelf-stable food boxes for both Thanksgiving and Christmas to senior citizens in need. Each of the 150 boxes for Thanksgiving and 150 boxes for Christmas will contain a canned ham, so St. Luke's November food in-gathering for RIFA is concentrating on canned hams. Please contribute as many hams as you can afford, and let's help RIFA furnish a gratifying Thanksgiving and a merry Christmas to our less fortunate elderly sisters and brothers. Thank you.
