PARISH NEWS 28th June 2020 Saint Peter and Saint Paul (A) Dear Friends, As you will have heard, on Tuesday the Prime Minister announced a general easing of the lockdown and that this includes places of worship which may re-open for public services as from July 4 th . What is not always appreciated is how things unfold after that general announcement. In the case of churches, the Government then issues the very detailed restrictions and conditions that must be complied with before re-opening may happen. Those details are sent to the Cardinal and our bishops who then pass on that information to the parishes. I am writing this on Thursday (25 th ) and as of today, nothing further has been heard. This is obviously giving a very tight schedule. It is obviously very welcome that we will be allowed to be open soon and I am deeply sorry for the uncertainty and lack of concrete news. As soon as we are in a position to make plans, I will of course let you know. In the meantime, let us continue to support each other in prayer. God bless. PARISH NEWS

28th June 2020 Saint Peter and Saint Paul (A)

Dear Friends, As you will have heard, on Tuesday the Prime Minister announced a general easing of the lockdown and that this includes places of worship which may re-open for public services as from July 4th. What is not always appreciated is how things unfold after that general announcement. In the case of churches, the Government then issues the very detailed restrictions and conditions that must be complied with before re-opening may happen. Those details are sent to the Cardinal and our bishops who then pass on that information to the parishes. I am writing this on Thursday (25th) and as of today, nothing further has been heard. God bless. Fr David

MARRIAGE MATTERS

Saint Peter and Saint Paul : Acts 12:1-11 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18 Matthew 16:13-19)

The power of love Peter, the denier, and Paul, the persecutor, both familiar with failure, were

overwhelmed by the power of love and gave up their own lives. Let us rejoice in our calling to love as Jesus did, to lay down our lives for each other, willingly

and gladly. Our lives might be the only Bible that some people will ever read.

READINGS FOR SAINT PETER AND SAINT PAUL

First Reading

Acts 3:1-1 Once, when Peter and John were going up to the Temple for the prayers at the ninth hour, it happened that there was a man being carried past. He was a cripple from birth; and they used to put him down every day near the Temple entrance called the Beautiful Gate so that he could beg from the people going in. When this man saw Peter and John on their way into the Temple he begged from them. Both Peter and John looked straight at him and said, ‘Look at us.’ He turned to them expectantly, hoping to get something from them, but Peter said, ‘I have neither silver nor gold, but I will give you what I have: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, walk!’ Peter then took him by the hand and helped him to stand up. Instantly his feet and ankles became firm, he jumped up, stood, and began to walk, and he went with them into the Temple, walking and jumping and praising God. Everyone could see him walking and praising God, and they recognised him as the man who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate of the Temple. They were all astonished and unable to explain what had happened to him.

Second Reading Galatians 1:11-20

The Good News I preached is not a human message that I was given by men, it is something I learnt only through a revelation of Jesus Christ. You must have heard of my career as a practising Jew, how merciless I was in persecuting the Church of God, how much damage I did to it, how I stood out among other Jews of my generation, and how enthusiastic I was for the traditions of my ancestors. Then God, who had specially chosen me while I was still in my mother’s womb, called me through his grace and chose to reveal his Son in me, so that I might preach the Good News about him to the pagans. I did not stop to discuss this with any human being, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were already apostles before me, but I went off to Arabia at once and later went straight back from there to Damascus. Even when after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and stayed with him for fifteen days, I did not see any of the other apostles; I only saw James, the brother of the Lord, and I swear before God that what I have written is the literal truth.

Gospel John 21:15-19

Jesus showed himself to his disciples, and after they had eaten he said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?’ He answered, ‘Yes Lord, you know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my lambs.’ A second time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ He replied, ‘Yes, Lord, you know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Look after my sheep.’ Then he said to him a third time, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ Peter was upset that he asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and said, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep. ‘I tell you most solemnly, when you were young you put on your own belt and walked where you liked; but when you grow old you will stretch out your hands, and somebody else will put a belt round you and take you where you would rather not go.’ In these words he indicated the kind of death by which Peter would give glory to God. After this he said, ‘Follow me.’

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION UPDATE Dear First Holy Communion candidates, We hope that you are all keeping safe and well. We have greatly missed sharing our planned sessions and Masses with you. At present, we are still unable to meet in order to continue with our First Holy Communion programme. However, we ARE able to celebrate Mass each Sunday by tuning in via YouTube or Instagram LIVE to Fr Dominic's Mass from the Brentwood Youth Service (links below). https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBuTWplUUonmBuJVlRpEzPw/featured https://www.instagram.com/brentwoodcys/?hl=en We would therefore like to ask all First Holy Communion Parents if they could ensure their child has access to a laptop/phone at 10.30 am each Sunday morning, so that they along with the whole family can celebrate a virtual Mass together, that would be truly wonderful. We would also like to see and read about what each child particularly enjoyed from each Sunday's Mass. This could be in the form of a short paragraph, possibly with a picture that highlighted for example, if it was a special Saints Day and what that meant to them or something the child particularly enjoyed e.g. a favourite hymn, the Homily or a bidding prayer. This would be a little project each child could undertake and then when we can meet again, Fr David will be able to look through each child's book/folder. We hope that we will be able to meet again soon, but in the meantime, please take good care of yourselves. You are all in our prayers. Fr David & the FHC Catechists

Jesus, Moses, and an old man go golfing. The first one to tee off is Moses. He smashes

the ball and it is heading right for the water hazard before the green. Moses raises his

club, the water parts, and the ball makes it to the green. Jesus gets up to swing, cranks

it out, and it is headed for the water hazard. Jesus closes his eyes and prays. The ball

skips across the water and lands on the green two feet from the hole. The old man's

turn comes, and he drives the ball. The ball looks like it is going to drop directly into

the water. A fish jumps from the water hazard swallowing the ball, as an eagle drops

from the sky, grabbing the fish. As the eagle flies over the green,

a bolt of lightning strikes the eagle, making it drop the fish. As

the fish hits the green, it spits out the ball and the ball falls into

the hole, making a hole in one. Jesus looks at Moses and says, "I

really think I'm leaving Dad at home next time!"
