The Marshall County Ministerium is sponsoring this event on Sat. Sept. 21. This is a great way to refresh your understanding of the Old Testament. You’ll receive a workbook. There will be snacks and a box lunch. The cost for the event will be $10.

From the Pastor . . . . I went to my hometown last weekend for the annual Danish Days celebration and had a wonderful time spending time with old friends. I also had a job for the event. I drove the tractor that pulled the float on which my cousin’s class rode through the parade. (It was their 50th. They are much older than me.) After the parade I went to my home church where they were serving lunch. At the bottom of the stairs to the basement there is coat rack and on it hung my Allis Chalmers cap which I had left there last year. Either they are very honest or no one wanted an Allis Chalmers cap. Besides the cap I discovered some other things while visiting with old friends and classmates from many years ago now. Most of the things we were taught in that old school and in our churches and from our par-ents were in fact true: A sentence must have a subject and a predicate. Every action does in fact have an opposite and equal reaction. Water freezes at 32 degrees and boils at 212 degrees, two plus two do, in fact, equal four. There are some truths that we first found in church that have turned out to be true as well. Telling the truth always makes for an easier life, even if it may not seem so at the moment. At length you do learn that it is more blessed to give than receive. God created us male and female and blessed us with the gift of mar-riage. After nearly 50 years you can see the blessing and the gift of trusting that arrangement and being true to marriage vows. The God who created us has given us these truths and since he is God, well you can be pretty sure he is right. He has told us about them in his Word. He has laid them out in his commandments. They can be trusted. But he has also revealed a couple of other things in his Word. First he has given his only begotten Son to die on the cross and bring us forgiveness when we have lost our way, when we have stumbled into what is false and ignored his truth. Our Lord is very big on forgiveness. It is for declaring that forgiveness that he created the church. The other thing he has made known to us in his Word is that he wants us to love our neighbors, even those who ignore his Word, or commands, or who don’t agree with them. He wants us to love them and care for them. He wants us to be neighbors. He wants us to welcome them into his church and speak that Word which brings life, forgiveness and hope. He wants all of us to find the things we sometimes lose track of and you can be sure they are more precious than an Allis Chalmers cap.

Confirmation The summer is sneaking away from us again and before you know it Confirmation classes will be resuming. Here some dates for the start of our Confirmation program this fall: Wed. Sept. 4 5:30pm Information Meeting for 7th & 8th graders and parents This is especially useful for 7th graders and their parents so they can become familiar with the program and requirements. Wed. Sept. 11 3:30pm 7th and 8th grade Confirmation classes begin Pastor Terrill teaches the 8th grade class and Kari Felhaus teaches the 7th grade class. 9th Grade Confirmation Schedule: Wed. church family to be given

to someone that they feel is

in need. One does not need

to ask to take a quilt nor tell where the quilt goes. It is

our prayer and hope that the quilts that are given from

our church family from this “Giving Chair” will touch

the lives and hearts of each and every recipient. If the

“Giving Chair” is empty, please do not dismay for this

just means that one has been given to someone in need

and another will soon be in its place. Please join us on

this important mission as we share with those around us

and may those that receive feel the blessing of our love

and prayers within each and every quilt.

As a skilled inventor, John Muir was a prized factory employee in Indianapolis. If not for an industrial acci-dent in his 20s, he may have spent his life making things indoors. But after recovering from being tempo-rarily blinded, Muir headed on a 1,000-mile walk to “consider the lilies.” He then began doing that literally, as a botanist. To his résumé, the 19th-century Renaissance man added naturalist, glaciologist, conservationist, founder of the Sierra Club, and Father of National Parks. Yet when Muir was asked what he did, he replied simply, “I study the inventions of God.”
