Devotions
The second reading for this Sunday speaks in its own way of why we
forgive each other: “None of us lives for oneself” because we “live
for the Lord.” Our relationship to each other is described in terms of
our relationship to God. Forgiveness is absolutely central to the
message of the whole gospel because it is necessary in order for our
relationships with God and each other continually to grow stronger
and more graceful.
Christ’s dying and rising models for us our own dying and rising:
“no one dies for oneself.” We always die (to ourselves) for the sake
of the other. Forgiving entails dying to damaged relationships so
that we might all belong to the Lord and rise to every new Life with
him. Forgiving means God has hold of us and enables us to act in a
Godlike manner. Forgiving means that the cost of reconciling petty
hurts or even major ruptures pale in comparison to the immeasurable
forgiveness of God.

2017 Share in the Spirit
Tuition Assistance Collection
Next week, parishioners throughout the diocese will be asked to help
make the dream of a Catholic education a reality for struggling Cath-
olic families. Monies raised through this collection coupled with the
diocese’s tuition assistance endowment provides financial assistance
to hundreds of deserving families who seek a Catholic education for
their children but who cannot afford the full cost of tuition.
Through this collection, our Bishop is reaching out to believing and
worshipping Catholics like you to assist him in ensuring that the
Catholic commitment to total education of our children does not fade
away because people cannot afford it. Since the Church has the
mission to educate and since this mission directly affects the quality
of life we experience as Catholics, all of us have a stake in Catholic
education.
It is in light of this reality that I ask you to consider supporting next
week’s Share in the Spirit collection. God bless you for your good-
ness.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to the following new
parishioners to St. Margaret of Scotland Parish.

From the Religious Ed Office:
From the Religious Ed Office:
This weekend we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. It marks the
official opening of the RE year, when all RE families, catechists, and
aides gather to commit to this important ministry in the life of any
parish. St Margaret’s is very lucky and blessed with deeply commit-
ted adults, as well as college and high school students who volunteer
their time to prepare and share lessons with the young members of
our parish. Since WE ALL are called to be catechists, by virtue of
our baptism, please take time this weekend to remember those peo-
ple in your life who have been instrumental in passing on our Catho-
lic faith to you. If you can, let them know what that has meant to
you!
Please see the flyer in this week’s bulletin, which lists those who are
in active catechetical ministry in our parish. Please keep them, as
well as our RE families in your prayers this year.
RE opening liturgies are scheduled for this weekend at the 10:30
and on Tuesday, Sept 19. Tuesday RE families should report direct-
ly to church for 5:00 pm Mass, and parents need to stay with their
students.

Families Hurt, Families Heal Addiction is a family disease. This talk will aim to clarify what addiction is,
how it progresses, and how it affects families. Just as there are common,
predictable symptoms of addiction, there are common, predictable, detri-mental family patterns associated with addiction. A recovery lifestyle can be
built within and around an individual. Similarly, families can recover from
the damage of addiction to grow stronger than ever. Recovery is possible and so very worthwhile. This will be an interactive hour, so please bring your
questions. This free event is presented by Ashley Addiction Treatment and
Limen House on Wednesday, September 27, at 6:30pm at Salesianum High School. About the presenter: Rebeccca Tillemans received her Master’s
degree in Mental Health Counseling from State University of New York,

Are you Being Called to God? In today’s second reading, St. Paul reminds the Romans (and us) that
“None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself. For if we
live, we live for the Lord.” While that is true for all of the baptized,
some are called to live lives consecrated for the service of the
Church as priests, deacons or religious. If you think God might be
inviting you to some form of consecrated life, please call or write

September 17, 2018 Mercy and forgiveness is a central theme to Christ’s message and
one He expands on in this week’s gospel. Christ not only reminds us of the Lord’s merciful nature in forgiving our sins, but also calls us to
forgive others as well. We are reminded today of the importance of spreading
this forgiveness to others. It can be hard to forgive our neighbors, especially if we find that we are forgiving them consistently for the same offense. Re-
member; however, that Christ holds us to a higher standard, a standard that
we should be thankful He keeps. How often do you find yourself struggling with the same sin? When confessing, do you find that you continue to seek
absolution from God for the same offenses? Most of us do, we tend to be
tempted by the same sin time and time again. How thankful we are that our Lord graces us with forgiveness, over and over again. As models of Christ we
should strive to spread this forgiveness on to others as well. This week as you reflect on this message pray for a loving heart, one full of forgiveness. Spread
this forgiveness on to others, regardless of how many times they may need to
seek it out from you.
