our mission

As God’s people, we will share the love of God in a way that nurtures body, mind and spirit. Demonstrating God’s love for the world, we will serve a diverse population and accept one another without reservations. By including all people as one family in worship and service to God, we are all empowered and inspired by

the Spirit to continue the work of Jesus Christ.

A Message About the Portfolio Committee

Dear Trinity People,

The Portfolio Committee met this past Tuesday night to begin our work as a congregation thinking through our upcoming transition in leadership.

Two big questions are before us: first, Who Are We? Imagine if someone visiting at our worship service asked you about Trinity. How would you describe the congregation? What do we believe, value, and stand for? What is our role as a church in the Santa Barbara community?

And second, Where Are We Going? Six or seven years from now what should we be like? What new challenges must we face? What new issues should be addressed in our life as the People of God in this time and place?

I urge all of you to be thinking about these questions. Once past Easter you will be hearing more from us about how you can be a part of this conversation. Your views are important, and you will have ample opportunities to share them.

May Easter enliven us spiritually and open us to serious reflection about Trinity’s future.

BRING A FEW OUNCES OF WATER TO SHARE IN OUR SPECIAL WATER HONORING OFEARTH DAY SUNDAY, APRIL 19In part, the service will be devoted to sustainability themes and the celebration of God’s earth, with a focus on water.

We are asking every household to please bring with them to church a few ounces of water from home or from a meaningful place. There will be a special honoring of water at the 8 am and 10 am services.

It truly unites us all.” (Unitarian Universalist Association)Also, you are invited to join a Trinity group after the service for a tour of Earth Day festivities at Alameda Park. For more information about Sustainable Trinity, contact Jean Davis, [email protected].

TRINITY MEN’S RETREAT 2015May 22-24 at Westmont College CampusEMBRACING MYSTERYLed by Rabbi Rami Shapiro, author of Rabbi Rami’s Guide to God.We will structure the retreat around the Daily Office and meditation times and start after check-in on Friday afternoon with a short intro to Westmont and then dinner, followed by Rami’s introduction to the nature of Mystery, as portrayed in Job and Ecclesiastes, on Friday evening. The rest of the weekend will be spent accessing the Mystery by “entering the texts with our bodies.” From Job: “In my flesh I see God.” Rami wants to help us discover “where the wildness is for us right now.” We on the planning committee want this to be not so much an intellectual discussion about God, but rather, an experience of God. This is why we have invited Rami to be with us.We plan to welcome 30 men to the retreat, and reservations are now open for Trinity men. The cost, including five meals and two nights’ lodging in a private room with shared bath, is about $200. Please email [email protected] to reserve a space, and send a check for $100, made out to Trinity, to lock in your reservation. After April 12, if there are spaces left, we will open it to the larger Santa Barbara community, where we already know there is interest because of Rami.We hope you can join us! --Mark B, for the planning committee: Michael Arnold, John Draper, Bob Richard, and Dennis Wylie

about pledging

Our vision of Stewardship recognizes that God is the giver and has blessed each one of us with many gifts. Common to us all is the privilege and blessing of how we use the precious gifts of our time, talent and treasure. Stewardship is the spiritual practice of discerning the use of these gifts in building God’s dream of love and justice in our hearts, relationships and world. At Trinity we call your gift of time and talent Shared Ministry and we call your gift of treasure a pledge. Pledge forms are available at the Welcome Table.

MEETING CHURCH AGAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME A Refresher Course on the Episcopal Tradition and Trinity Church

Begins May 1, Ends Sunday May 16, 2015

If you have been participating at Trinity for a while and are feeling moved by the Spirit to find out more about the faith that energizes our life here and explore the possibility of membership, Confirmation or Baptism, we encourage you to participate in the Meeting Church Again for the First Time series that begins on Friday, May 1st. We welcome also, those who have been around for a while and just want a “theological update” and the opportunity to make some wonderful connections. This series has rich content where participants have the opportunity to learn and explore:

o Our historical roots in the Anglican traditiono The richness of our Worship and Sacramentso Our ways to interpret the Bible and its role in our faitho Practicing the Christian Life

We do all of this in the context of building real Christian Community. You will have the opportunity get to know others more deeply who are on the journey of faith with you as we discover how our stories are connected to God’s Story. “Meeting Church” is just about the best way we know to get acquainted with Trinity, and to find your way into more active participation (called membership) here.
