SCHOOL PHOTOS

Individual and sibling photos will be taking place on Tuesday, 12th October. Please can you ensure all children have their school jumper or cardigan with them. Many thanks.

A special request for lunch on 7th October

Thursday 7th October is the day of the autumn pupil census. On that day, one element of our funding will be determined for the following year, depending on how many pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have a school lunch instead of their own packed lunch. Therefore, we would really appreciate it if, even if just for the one day, you would support us by ordering a school lunch rather than bringing a packed lunch. Simply doing this will protect us from missing out on some much-needed income next year, so we would hugely appreciate your support in this matter. Traditionally, our most popular lunch is fish and chips. On Thursday 7th, the kitchen staff will offer an adjusted menu (see below). If you could support us with your custom on that day we would be very grateful. The adjusted menu obviously applies to the juniors too!

'You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book!' At Park Way, we believe that reading (in particular pleasure for reading) has a direct impact on social and cognitive development now and in later life. Reading is a gateway to knowledge and a doorway into the impossible! Research tells us that children who read for pleasure on a daily basis develop a wider vocabulary, greater general knowledge and a far better understanding of other cultures. We believe that reading can open doors for our pupils and can help them to gain experiences, improve language and vocabulary skills and stimulate their imaginations so with this in mind, we are calling on your support. If you have any books at home that are in good condition but you no longer have a need for, please donate them to our school reading areas. Just send them in with your child so they can make their way into another child's hand to love and enjoy. Thank you

Miss Beamish

Year R Apple and Pear Class have been learning about the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. In Maths we have been learning about the composition of 0, 1 and 2. In Read, Write Inc we have been learning to recognise and write 'm', 'a', 's', 'd', 't' and 'i'. We have also been using our Fred fingers to segment and blend words like 'am', 'mat', 'sad' and 'sit'. In Literacy we have been drawing our favourite character from the story of Goldilocks and labelling them using our phonic knowledge. In Topic we have been making our own split pin characters, acting out the story using daddy bear, mummy bear and baby bear voices. in PE were have been learning how to travel around the hall using straight, curved and zig zag lines. We also used the Now, Press Play headphones to listen to the story of Goldilocks and pretended to be baby bear and Goldilocks. Next week we will be carrying on to learn about 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and will be making our own porridge. Show and Tell - Show and Tell will be EVERY Friday. The children can bring in their favourite toy or something to show the class. The show and tell items will be kept in the show and tell box for the day. Evidence Me - if you have not already accepted the Evidence Me invitation could you please sign up so that we can send you photos of your child learning in Apple and Pear Class.

Year 1&2 It has been another amazing week of learning in Key Stage 1 this week. We have all been working super hard at writing the story of ‘The Pirate Cruncher’ by Johnny Duddle. In Numeracy, Year 1s have been working on calculating 1 more and 1 less and Year 2 have continued to secure their place value knowledge. In Topic we had a great time designing a new ship for Captain Purplebeard and testing which material is best and waterproof.

Year 3&4 It seems unreal that we are over half way through the term already. The children have really settled in their new classes and we are so proud of the learning they have done so far. In Literacy we have moved on to looking at instructional writing and will be looking at different survival skills in the coming weeks. This children have enjoyed designing their own playground games with a set of rules and instructions to go with them. In Maths, Year 4 have been finishing off looking at place value by practicing rounding to nearest thousand, and converting numbers to Roman numerals. Year 3 have been looking at place value also, practice their partitioning and adding multiples of 10 to numbers. In our topic we have been looking at the famous scientist Charles Darwin and his work on the Galapagos Islands. The children have written their own diary entries as if they were Darwin and how he would have felt first arriving on the island and seeing all of the unique wildlife for the first time. In Science we have looked at the importance of muscles in the body, and the children have completed the bleep test to see how much their muscles can endure. As the weather gets colder, please make sure children are coming to school with jumpers and coats where needed. We would also like to thank parents for supporting us with sending children with the right PE kits and trainers on PE days. We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Year 5&6

Another busy week in years 5 and 6. We have finished the story called 'Kensuke's Kingdom' and we were quite disappointed as we loved the story. It led to lots of discussions as we predicted the ending just before we read the final part. We also looked at open ended and closed questions and used them in our role play. We acted out an interview scene for a newspaper report that we have planned and have started to write. This will be concluded next week. Next week we will be moving on to a lovely picture book called Flotsam where the children will be writing their own stories. In Maths, year 5 have been looking at addition and subtraction and they have been adding and subtracting whole numbers with more than 4 digits, including using formal written methods. Year 6 have been looking at the addition of numbers with up to 7 digits and using mental recall facts to solve calculations. They have also been applying these skills in problem solving and developing their fluency skills. For topic we have compared St Lucia and Maidstone with a focus on the human and physical features of the two areas. We have been looking at friendships in PSHE and continued to learn about the 5 pillars of Islam in R.E. Next week, we have an online visit with an author. Please see the home learning that is now on Teams. The children have until the 20th October 2021 to complete it. Please see your class teacher if you need support. Children are still coming into school in trainers. Please ensure the correct footwear. P.E. kits should be worn for P.E. Thank you for your support and to everyone who contributed to and bought cakes from the cake sale last week. Have a lovely weekend. The Year 5 and 6 Phase
