OIL-X EVOLUTION is a range of high efficiencycompressed air filters consisting of coalescing filtergrades for the removal of water and oil aerosols,solid particulates & micro-organisms, dust filtergrades for the removal of dry particulate and micro-organisms and adsorption filters for the removal of oil vapour and odours.

Compressed air purification equipment must deliveruncompromising performance and reliability whilstproviding the right balance of air quality with the

lowest cost of operation. Many manufacturers offerproducts for the filtration and purification ofcontaminated compressed air, which are oftenselected only upon their initial purchase cost, withlittle or no regard for the air quality they provide, thecost of operation throughout their life or indeed theirenvironmental impact. When purchasingpurification equipment, delivered air quality, theoverall cost of ownership and the equipment’senvironmental impact must always be considered.

Air qualityThe Parker domnick hunter OIL-X EVOLUTION range of die-castcompressed air filters have been designed from the outset tomeet the air quality requirements of ISO 8573-1:2001, whenvalidated in accordance with the requirements of ISO 12500-1.

Correct selection of filtration mediaCoalescing and dust removal filtersuse a high efficiency borosilicate glassnanofibre material which has a 96%voids volume, providing media withexcellent filtration efficiency and a high dirt holding capacity.

Construction of the filtrationmedia into a filter elementOIL-X EVOLUTION filter media isconstructed into a filter element usinga unique deep bed pleating techniquein place of the more conventionalwrapped construction. This provides450% more filtration surface areawhen compared to a traditionalwrapped filter element and around200% more surface area compared to a traditional pleated element.

Deep bed pleating also reduces the air flow velocity within the media,which further improves filtrationperformance.

Additionally, the high efficiency AA and AAR grade elements have a unique graded density mediaconstruction which provides evengreater filtration performance withoutadding to pressure loss or energyconsumption.

Drainage method 3Surface tension breakers on the lowerfilter element endcap provide fast andefficient drainage of coalesced liquid.

Drainage method 4Drainage ribs cast into the filter bowlcompress the lower part of the filterelement, allowing bulk liquid to rapidlydrain from the filter element throughcapillary action.

Drainage method 2Typical filter elements have a build up ofliquid known as a “wet band” where thedrainage layer is glued into the lower endcap.The OIL-X EVOLUTION design wraps thedrainage layer under the lower endcap toremove coalesced liquid from the air flowpath, increasing liquid removal efficiency, andproviding more usable filtration surface area.

Energy efficiencyAny restriction to airflow within a filter housing and element will reducethe system pressure. To generate compressed air, large amounts ofelectrical energy are consumed, therefore any pressure lost within thesystem can be directly converted into a cost for wasted energy. Thehigher the pressure loss, the higher the energy costs.

Providing an optimal flowpath for the compressed airthrough the filter housing andelement is key to reducingsystem operating costs

Pressure loss in a compressed air filter is a combination of fixed pressure losses andincremental pressure losses.

Fixed pressure losses are derivedfrom the filter housing and theinterface between the filterhousing and filter element.

Incremental pressure losses aredirectly related to the filterelement as it blocks up withcontamination.

In most filters, high operationalcosts can be attributed to a poorlydesigned airflow path within thefilter housing element and poorlyselected filtration media.

In addition to this, the highdifferential pressure “changepoints” recommended by manyfilter manufacturers increaseoperational costs even further.

Specialist media treatmentAll OIL-X EVOLUTION coalescing and dust removal filter mediaincludes a specialist treatment. This actively repels oil and water to ensure that coalesced liquid does not reduce the voids volume.Maintaining a high voids volume reduces the risk of prematureblockage, system pressure losses and high energy consumption.

Deep bed pleatingDeep bed pleating reduces the air flow velocity within thefiltration media. This both improves filtration performanceof the filter element and also reduces pressure losses.

Advanced filter housings OIL-X EVOLUTION die-cast filter housings provide simple installation, andlong housing life with reduced maintenance. The unique design of the OIL-X EVOLUTION die-cast filter also provides more port sizes to givegreater application flexibility. A ‘clean change’ element design ensures thatservice technicians do not have to directly handle contaminated filterelements during maintenance.
