WELCOME TO THE 2019 SCHOOL YEAR A special hello to our new students, including the seventy-eight Foundation students who have joined us at Cranbourne Park Primary School. We wish these students and their families an enjoyable, happy and rewarding time at our school. It was fantastic to see how quickly our Foundation students settled into their classrooms and “school life” when they commenced school last Thursday. Once again, the success of our Pre-school – School Transition Program was evident by the extremely smooth start to the year. STAFF NEWS Congratulations to Monika Edwards on her recent marriage. We wish Monika and her husband, Syd, a wonderful life together. Congratulations also to Michael Youngs on his engagement to Stacey. Wishing Michael and Stacey much love and happiness with their engagement and beyond! Over the holidays Mr Aziel Salim accepted a teaching position back at his previous school, Kilberry Valley Primary School, and Mrs Kerry Begg-Boyle accepted a twelve month contract at Keysborough Primary School. We thank Aziel for his contributions to our school over his brief time here and wish him all the best at Kilberry Valley Primary School. We wish Kerry all the very best with her teaching at Keysborough and thank her for her contributions at Cranbourne Park Primary School. NEW STAFF We warmly welcome a number of Education Support and teaching staff to our school.
Respect: For ourselves, our learning, our school and each other.

OUR 2019 STAFF AND THEIR POSITIONS For your information, our 2019 staff is as follows:
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT Parents can generally assist us at the school in reducing the number of accidents which occur by actively discussing correct and safe procedures to use whilst playing on the school’s playground equipment. The school regularly reminds students about the correct play equipment usage. Whilst many accidents are unavoidable and are just that, “accidents”, some injuries are caused by students using the equipment inappropriately (i.e. sitting on top of the equipment, walking across the top of the equipment, pushing students whilst on the equipment and so on). Correct usage of the playground equipment and the need for school safety rules to be strictly adhered to should be a regular topic of conversation between parents and their children. SCHOOL UNIFORM It is a condition of enrolment that students wear school uniform as detailed in our “Student Dress Code” policy. Please note that the school windcheater and jacket are bottle green. If your child is not in school uniform (e.g. the uniform is in the wash), please ensure that your child hands a note to the class teacher. This will ensure they are not issued with a letter regarding non-compliance to the school’s student dress code.

Safer Internet Day Tuesday the 5th of February was Safer Internet Day. This year students focussed on the 4Rs of online safety; respect, responsibility, reasoning and resilience. The poster below highlights these areas and can be used to help initiate conversations with your child/ren at home.
PERSONAL GOODS BROUGHT TO SCHOOL AT OWNERS’ RISK Personal property is often brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This can include mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. The Department of Education and Training does not hold insurance for personal property brought to school nor does it accept responsibility for private property brought to school by students, staff and visitors. Staff and students should refrain from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school.

ASSEMBLY This year our weekly assemblies will be held between 2.45 p.m. and 3.20 p.m. of a Friday. At each assembly, we proudly sing our National Anthem, “Advance Australia Fair”, the words of which are:
Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young and free;
We've golden soil and wealth for toil, Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in Nature's gifts Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage Advance Australia fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing, "Advance Australia fair!"
Beneath our radiant southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands; To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands; For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share; With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair. In joyful strains then let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!" We warmly invite you to attend our assemblies. NEWSLETTER Our newsletter is distributed fortnightly. In term 1 the youngest child in the family attending our school will receive a newsletter to bring home on the following days: February 7, February 21, March 7, March 21 and April 4. You are also able to access our newsletter online through the school website. SUNSMART SCHOOL At Cranbourne Park Primary School, all members of our school community are required to wear “sun smart” hats when participating in outdoor activities from the commencement of the school year until May 1 and from September 1 until the end of the school year. To maximize protection from harmful UV rays, we encourage the wearing of broad brimmed hats, sunscreen and sunglasses. HYDRATION POLICY The school’s hydration policy is implemented in conjunction with the school’s “SunSmart” policy. Students are encouraged to have a clearly named, “pop top” style drink bottle containing water in the classroom with them during terms 1 and 4.

CAR PARKING AROUND THE SCHOOL In the interest of the safety of our students, and with many new students starting school, I urge parents to obey all traffic and parking rules around the school. In particular, parents are reminded not to park in the staff car park, nor to park their vehicles across the driveways of our neighbours’ houses or to double park.
Who will be our 2019 School Captains and House Captains? Find out at assembly on Friday 8th February!
