Parks and Recreation Location

The Lewiston Parks and Recreation offices are located in the Lewiston Com-munity Center, 1424 Main, and are open Monday-Friday 7:30AM-6:00PM. Regis-tration for all programs may now be paid through the use of all major credit cards as a convenience. Program fees listed include State of Idaho sales tax when ap-propriate.

authorized vendor of recreational regis-trations for the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. Validation permits and stickers may be purchased at the main office located in the Lewiston Community Center, 1424 Main St., Monday-Friday between 7:30am-6:00pm, excluding holi-days. All stickers are available now!

Reservations Lewiston Parks

Persons or organizations may reserve portions of the City’s parks for special events. The reservation must be made at the Parks & Recreation office at 1424 Main St. Permits are issued on a first come, first served basis. There is a fee for exclusive use of an area of the park. Alcohol permits must be obtained at the park office and approvals given by the City Manager’s office and the police de-

partment. Special conditions apply to having an alcohol related event in a City Park. For more information call the Parks & Recreation office at 746-2313.

Catering and Cookie Sales

Our Recreation Catering Service op-erates inconjunction with the Senior Nu-trition Program here at the Community Center. We cater lunches, dinners and snacks for meetings within our building and throughout the community. We also sell cookies and other baked goods five days a week…YEAR ROUND! They are the same great products you see every winter at the mall baked fresh, we ac-cept special orders by advanced request. Call us at 208-743-6983 for more specific menu options and pricing.

Reservations Lewiston Community

Center The Lewiston Community Center con-

tains three main meeting rooms to maxi-mize attendance at 350 people; kitchen facilities with the capacity to cater to a maximum of 250 people; a youth lounge containing pool tables, foosball tables, television and VCR, and stereo listening capabilities. Alcohol is allowed follow-ing given guidelines. The facility is also equipped with listening devices to assist the hearing impaired, is handicapped accessible, and is a no smoking build-ing. The Center is available for activities seven days a week. Give us a call for your next wedding reception, anniversa-ry/birthday party, or business banquet at 208-746-2313.

Why Good Courses Get Cancelled

Nothing hurts a good course faster than everyone waiting until the last minute to

register. Class registration is checked two days prior to class starting and some classes, materials must be purchased at least two weeks prior to the start date. If there are not enough participants signed up, the program is cancelled. Coming in on the day the class is scheduled to start will not likely save it, so PLEASE register EARLY!

Mother Daughter TeaSaturday, March 6th

An afternoon out for Valley young ladies ages 3-12 years with their special person (Mom, Grandma, Aunt or friend). A time for dress up and enjoying some time togeth-er. Refreshments will be served and en-tertainment will be provided. Attendance fee is $6.00 per person and a minimum of 50 people are required to have the event which is scheduled from 1-2:30pm at the Lewiston Community Center. Registra-tion deadline is March 1. Pictures will be available at an additional cost.

33rd Annual Seaport River Run April 24

Mark your calendar today for another edition of this traditional valley fun run. Registration forms will be available throughout town after March 1st. Plan to participate in the run and all the associated Dogwood Festival Events.

Old Time Fiddle & Musical Variety Show

Sponsored by The Old Time Fiddlers and Lewiston Parks

Fiddlers, singers, banjos, mando-lins, guitars, pianos from throughout the region will be providing toe tap-ping entertainment in the Lewiston Community Center on Saturday, March 20 starting at 1:00PM. Each performer will do two or three num-bers. Admission fee is $4 with chil-dren under 12 admitted free.

Seventeenth Annual Jill Andrews Memorial (JAM) Softball Clinic

Mark your calendar for May 8th, date of the Seventeenth Annual Jill Andrews Memorial Softball Clinic, referred to as the JAM Clinic. This clinic, in memory of Jill, who loved and excelled in the sport of softball, is an opportunity for girls ages 5-8 (will take 9 year olds staying in pitching machine league) to learn the basic fundamentals of the game in a fun and festive atmosphere.

Area women who have played softball serve as the clinicians for the training sessions and they stress skills, techniques, fun and sportsman-ship. This all day clinic beginning at 9:00am includes lunch, T-shirt and picture for each participant. Regis-tration is limited to the first 100 paid participants. Registration deadline is April 9. Pepsi Pitch, Hit, & RunSaturday, May 22nd

Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run program. The skills involved include batting, fielding, throwing, and base running. The skills tests will be held at Airport Park. People can pre-regis-ter at the Parks and Recreation office in the Lewiston Community Center, 1424 Main Street, or on our website.

Hand Prints StudioChildren Art Classes

Instructor Judy Parry Folk will be offering a five week mini course in-cluding classes in crafts,clay, draw-ing, and watercolor. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings beginning February 11 and continuing through March 11. Class will meet from 4:00-5:30pm at the Lewiston Community Center, 1424 Main Street. The fee of $65 includes all materials. Reg-ister for these classes at the Parks and Recreation office in the Lewiston Community Center or on-line by Feb-ruary 2.

Gymnastics ClassLewiston Parks and Recreation

Department and 360 Gymnastics & Cheer will be offering Gymnastics classes for boys and girls ages 3-5 years on Monday evenings from 6:00-6:50pm, and for boys and girls ages 6-12 years on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm for four weeks in March. The 3-5 year old class will be $45 and the 6-12 year old class will be $50. The classes will be held at 360 Gym-nastics & Cheer, 1489 Poplar Street (one block south of Bridge Street) in Clarkston.

Martial Arts ClassMartial Arts (tae kwon do) classes

are now being offered at 360 Gymnas-tics & Cheer. Kinderkicks, for youth ages 4-7, will be offered on Monday nights for four weeks in March, 5:30-6:00pm. The fee is $35. Tai kwon do, including fitness, forms (kata), spar-ring (kumite), and self-defense, for ages 8-14 will be offered on Monday nights from 7:00-7:45pm in the month of March. Fee is $45. Classes will be held at 360 Gymnastics & cheer new facility at 1489 Poplar Street in Clarkston.

Cheerleading ClassLewiston Parks & Recreation and

360 Gymnastics & Cheer will be of-fering introductory cheerleading classes on Wednesday nights for four weeks in March. Girls aged 4-7 can participate in the mini cheer class from 5:15-6:00pm for a fee of $45; girls aged 7-13 years old will meet from 7:00-7:45pm with a fee of $45. Classes will be held at 360 Gymnas-tics & Cheer, 1489 Poplar Street in Clarkston.

MAY 15-16 is the Stadium Sports Girl’s Spring Fling Fast Pitch Softball Tournament 14U, 12U and 10U Invi-tational. Entry Fee $275. 4 Game Guarantee.

JUNE 6-7 Girl’s Lewis-Clark Invita-tional 18U, 16U, 14U, 12U and 10U Fast Pitch Softball Tournament. Entry fee is $300. 5 Game Guaranteed.

What’s In Store for the Summer!!!

We will be offering A variety of new camps this summer.

In July we will be offering a Base-ball and Softball camp to help chil-dren work on their skills through drills and fun and active games.

We’ll also have a Youth Triathlon Camp which will occur in August just before our Clearwater Youth Triath-lon.

If you are interested in, or would like to see any other program offered for youth this summer, feel free to call our staff in the Recreation Office and we’ll help make it happen!

Youth Fastpitch League for

Girls 13-14 YearsParks & Recreation is offering a

fast pitch league for girls between the ages of 13-14. Girls must be 13 on or before January 1, 2009, and not older than 14 on that date. Regis-tration is by individuals at the Parks & Recreation office. The season will begin June 8 and teams will play 10 games. Registration will be May 17-28. Player fees are $30. Call the department office with any questions, 208-746-2313.

Lewiston Little League

Lewiston Little League, with the assistance of Lewiston Parks & Rec-reation, will be offering a youth ball program for the 2010 season. All leagues will be associated with and will follow the rules of Little League Baseball, Inc., a successful world-wide volunteer organization that has been active for over 50 years. The Lewiston Little League Program will only be successful through the efforts of volunteers at all levels of the orga-

nization and we invite you to become involved.

Registration: Every child who registers by the following deadlines will play ball!! Anyone registering at the Community Center after these dates will be considered late, will be charged a late fee of $5, and may not get their uniform on time.

Minors/Majors:February 6 – March 6

Tee Ball/Farm League:February 6 - April 16

Registration will also be held at the following dates, times, and places with little league volunteers available to answer any questions you may have. Please mark these dates and times on your calendar.

Boneyard Baseball is located at 752 8th Avenue across from McDON-ALDS. Starting February 8th you can register at the Parks and Recreation Office, 1424 Main Street.

Birth Certificates are required for all youth who were not in the program last year.

Leagues:1) A baseball player’s league age

is determined by their age on or before April 30, 2010.

2) A softball player’s league age is determined by their age on or before December 31, 2009.

3) T-Ball League will be for 5-6 year olds.

4) Farm League (Pitching Machine) will be for 6-8 year olds.

5) Minor League will be for 8-11 year olds.

6) Major League will be for 10-12 year olds.

All players interested in the Minors/Majors must participate in a “Draft Tryout” to be held Tuesday, March 9 and Wednesday, March 10 at a des-ignated location. Further information

regarding try-outs will be available at registration. Program fees will be $40 for T-Ball and $50 for Farm League and $55 for Minor/Major league, pay-able at registration. Families regis-tering 3 or more children will receive a $5 discount per player.

BaseballRegistration for the 2010 Lewiston

Babe Ruth baseball season will be-gin March 22nd and continue through April 6th at the Lewiston Parks and Recreation Department from 8:00am-6:00pm. You can now register on line at www.lewistonbaberuth.com Any one interested in coaching Babe Ruth and register online also. The registra-tion fee is $75 – the same price as last year! This fee includes the cost of a T-shirt and hat that players will get to keep at the end of the season. You will need a copy of your Birth Certificate if you have not played in Lewiston Babe Ruth. Youth Volunteer Program

Join the Lewiston Youth Volunteer Program as we find new and exciting ways to serve our community! The Lewiston School District and Parks and Recreation bring this volunteer program to all Lewiston young people in grades 7-12. Find a volunteer op-portunity that suits your interests and abilities, meet new friends and do good things for others.

Spring is a great time to volunteer. If you are interested in leadership, children, city beautification, just to name a few opportunities, the Lew-iston Youth Volunteer Program has a volunteer opportunity for you. Doing volunteer service helps to make you more eligible for many national and local scholarships, as well as more eligible for many jobs.

If you are looking for a meaningful and fun way to be involved, consider volunteering with the Lewiston Youth Volunteer Program. Contact Brenda Goldammer, program coordinator, for

Youth Activities Club (Y.A.C.)

YAC is a program sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Depart-ment and is guided by a youth board of directors from Lewiston High School. All events and activities of YAC are designed and implement-ed by the board. Club President is Janelle Gettman and Club Advisors are Linda Rape and Brandon John-son (Beeg). The Spring schedule includes various weekend dances after games as well as some major events.

This dynamic teen conference is de-signed for youth 6th grade and older. Workshops will include air brushing, getting things done, looking your best, fatal vision, and life skills. Workshops will be presented by individuals who can relate to youth. The conference includes breakfast, snacks, great en-tertainment, and a pizza lunch. This course is offered free of charge and will be held at the Lewiston Commu-nity Center. Registration deadline will be Wednesday, February 17. Watch for registration forms at the schools or stop by the Parks and Recreation office. The program is still great for kids who have participated before as the workshops and area of emphasis changes each year.

Spring Co-Ed Kickball TournamentLewiston Parks and Recreation

Playground Sports League (PSL) presents the first annual 1st Day of Spring Kickball Classic March 20 - 21 which will offer a thrilling 3 game guarantee tournament. Team manag-ers will need to register their teams with the Parks and Recreation De-partment located in the Lewiston Community Center. Space is limited, registration is March 1-15. This will be the first tournament of its kind in the L-C Valley. Get out there and kick some balls!

Games will be played at area soft-ball fields.

Fee: Team Fee: $200 – must have at least 12 players per team. There will be a $25 late fee for teams that register after March 15th.

Team roster sheets are available at the Parks and Recreation office in the Lewiston Community Center, 1424 Main Street, or on our website at www.cityoflewiston.org.

Adult Slowpitch Leagues

It’s Softball time! Dust off your soft-ball glove, shoes, and bat and get ready for the 2010 softball season. We’re offering adult slow pitch soft-ball leagues for Men’s and Women’s teams starting in April (Coed will start in mid-summer). Team managers will need to register their teams with the Parks and Recreation Department located in the Lewiston Community Center. Registration will be held from March 15th-26th. Team registration fees are $350 and player fees are $50/player. Each team is required to have a minimum of 12 players. Team managers need to submit their roster and all team/player fees at the time of registration. There will be a $25 team late fee or a loss of preseason

games for teams registering after March 26th. Pre-season play will be-gin on Tuesday, April 6th.

Adult Slowpitch Leagues

APRIL 17-18 – Our flagship men’s tournament each year is the Kick Off Classic. This tournament is always a big one with great competition from around the region. This will be a 3 game guarantee format. Entry fee is $250. Class C-D. Registration dead-line is Monday, April 12.

MAY 1-2 will be the Tenth Annual Men’s May Bash which will offer an exciting double elimination format. Entry fee is $225. Class C-D. Reg-istration deadline is Monday April, 26th.

MAY 22-23 will be our Women’s In-vitational. Entry Fee $225. 4 Game Guarantee. Registration deadline is Monday, May 17th.

Co-Ed March Volleyball

For those who have not had enough team play this winter, our coed volley-ball program is being extended one more month for an additional eight games. Teams can pick either the Monday-Wednesday league or Tues-day-Thursday. Team fee is $100. Registration deadline is February 25. Games will not be officiated.

Day Hiking ClubIf you are interested in getting to-

gether with other day hikers to ex-plore the surrounding hiking trails and pathways, we will have an organiza-tional meeting on Wednesday, March 3rd at the Lewiston Community Cen-ter at 7:00pm. Anyone who would like to do some hiking and would like to do it with others is encouraged to attend this meeting.

Walk Your OwnMarathon

Do you think that walking a marathon is entirely out of your reach? Not with “Walk Your Own Marathon!” Over a period of one month, your cumulative mileage can add up quickly to 26.4 miles and earn you your very own Mar-athon T-Shirt. Sponsored by Lewiston Parks and Recreation Department and Washington Idaho Volunteer Program, this event is a fun and healthy way to kick off your spring fitness program and enjoy the mini pathways of the Lewis-Clark Valley. This can also help prepare you to participate in the an-nual Seaport River Run/Walk or North Idaho Senior Games (if you wish). We will supply you with a calendar to keep track of your miles, and mileage maps of parks and other areas around the Valley where you can collect your marathon miles. Come to the orienta-tion presentation on February 24th at 6:00pm at the Lewiston Community Center. However, if you are interested in an Ultra Marathon (150 miles over a three month period), this will also be available to you. Register at the Parks and Recreation office in the Lewiston Community Center before February 20TH. The fee is $15 without a pe-dometer or $20 with a pedometer for both programs. The Marathon will take place during the month of March. The Ultra Marathon will take place during the months of March, April, and May. Must complete 50 miles per month for the Ultra Marathon. All ages welcome! Families encouraged walking together.

Masters CoxingThe coxswain is the member of the

crew who is responsible for steering and coordinating the crew. A good cox will use their mind, their voice and their senses to help each rower, and the crew as a whole, row their best. A coxswain can be a motivat-ing force, and in a sense, an onboard coach. Whether you have previous coxing experience or would like to learn from scratch, you will be an im-portant member in the boat. Fly Tying If you’ve had some Fly Tying expe-

rience and would like some advanced instruction, Leroy Hyatt will be offer-ing an intermediate Hair Class on Thursday evenings March 18-April 8 at the Lewiston Community Center. Course fee is $45. Looking for a way to make your wed-ding a little more affordable? Learn how to arrange your own Bridal Bou-quet and have fun in the process. The staff at Floral Artistry will provide the materials and instruction for the class. Women’s Art ClassDuring each week, we will explore

a different medium creating beauti-ful two and three-dimensional gifts or keepsakes. Be prepared to paint, draw, sculpt, mosaic, share and have fun! Instructor Judith Parry Folk has a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from Uni-versity of Washington

Hatha Yoga Experience relaxation, greater vital-

ity, flexibility and overall health with Hatha Yoga. Classes include deep breathing, easy yoga poses, progres-sive relaxation, guided meditation and

visualization. Yoga benefits mind and body. Perfect for a New Year New You. Meredith Robbins is an experi-enced instructor. Classes will be held at the Lewiston Community Center, 1424 Main Street, beginning February 19 and continuing through March 26 on Friday mornings from 9:30-10:45am. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat, towel, or blanket. The fee is $50 for one person or $90 for a couple. A minimum of six persons is required to hold the class.

T’ai Chi For Health Come experience better balance, co-

ordination, relaxation, a greater sense of serenity and well being through T’ai Chi Chih Joy thru Movement. This class includes other healthy practices like deep breathing, Meridian stretches and brain gymnastics. Certified Instruc-tor Meredith Robbins will be teaching the six week course which begins Feb-ruary 19 and continues through March 26 on Friday mornings from 11:00AM-12:00PM at the Lewiston Community Center. A mini-mum of six partici-pants required to hold the class.

The cost for the course is $50 for one person or $90 for a couple. Wear comfortable clothing and heavy socks or light-soled slippers.

Fit and Fall Proof March 15-May 20Lewiston Parks and Recreation will

be offering Fitness for Older Adults on Mondays and Thursdays, 11:30am-12:15pm. The Fit and Fall Proof Pro-gram can help reduce the risk of fall-ing. Older adults who improve their strength and flexibility also achieve im-proved posture, increased gait speed, improved stability, quicker reaction time, greater mobility, and reduced risk of falls. Fee is $20 for the ten week session.

The Senior Lounge is open each day from 9:00AM until 4:00PM for our se-niors’ and community enjoyment. The coffee pot is always on so come down and enjoy the company, a game of cards, or a rousing game of pool in the game room.

The Senior Nutrition Program serves great lunches Monday-Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Be sure to plan your day around other activities and join us for lunch. We also sell cookies and other baked goods five days a week. We cater lunches, dinners and snacks for meetings within our building and in the community. The Community Center is also home for other organizations: offices of Val-ley Transit, Youth Volunteer Program and Girl Scouts. Stop by and visit.

The WA-ID Volunteer Center is lo-cated in the Community Center Annex and currently is looking for seniors who can assist others with yard work, tutor-ing youth, serving as representative payees or working at the library, trans-portation, chore services, reception-ists, and misc. other opportunities.
