On behalf of the City of Lewiston and all staff members within the Parks and Recreation Department, I would like to invite you to chal-lenge yourself and fi nd something that we offer to participate in this coming year. Our mission is to “provide a comprehensive program of high quality parks, recreation facilities, and activities for a broad range of ages, interests, and abilities”, and we intend to follow through with this mission each and every day through our parks and programming.

Whether it’s the smaller atmosphere of the Community Center and what it offers that attracts you, or the wide expanse of our adult athletic programs, community special events or youth and family recreation, our interest is in providing an array of options for you to recreate. Many interesting and fun prospects are made available to our Community through our department. From young children through senior citizens, there are various leagues, special events, and outdoor and indoor activities available. If outside activities such as exercising, sport leagues, and disc golf are of interest, then exploring our parks are the place for you. Our outdoor recreation areas boast some of the fi nest year round conditions found in the state.

The Lewiston Community Center not only houses our Depart-ment administrative offi ces, but is a venue that provides a number of activities and opportunities. Our Senior Nutrition Program is located on-site and provides a congregate meal program every Monday-Wednesday starting at noon. Area residents are encouraged to come and socialize with others in a fun and friendly environment. Also at the Center you can partake in Yoga, Mom and Me playgroup, play pool or foosball, line dance or enjoy a card game in our senior lounge. There is something for everyone at the Center and we would love to see you there.

Bryden Canyon Golf Course, an 18-hole facility, continues to pro-vide golfi ng opportunities 12 months out of the year and challenges to beginners and seasoned players alike. The course’s full-service clubhouse, golf shop and restaurant are available to all.

If you are just looking for fresh air and relaxation, please visit one

of our twenty-three different neighborhood and community parks. Our Parks Department has parks located in all areas of the City. Most offer playgrounds, picnic sites, active recreation fi elds and plenty of open grass areas. Our park shelters and athletic fi elds are all avail-able for reservations for your company picnic, wedding, birthday party or just a small gathering for your friends and/or family. We have sites to meet every need.

Parks and Recreation has been in the development process of our 170 acre Community Park on Warner Ave for 8 years now. Initial developments have begun and I would like to invite you to go and see what the property has to offer. We are currently in the fi nal stages of applying for a grant to complete the trail system around the exterior of the Tri-Partnership site that will fully allow you to explore what the property has to offer. This spring we will be placing an information kiosk at the parking lot so community members can imagine and dream of the possibilities that this site will bring to the Lewiston community. The current trail system provides 2.5 miles of asphalt and paved pathways to explore with no more than a 6% slope, allowing easy access for all.

So, whatever your desire is when it comes to recreation, the City of Lewiston Parks and Recreation Department is here to serve you. Please visit our entire Parks and Recreation website in addi-tion to looking through our quarterly guide, as all 7 divisions of our Department have provided information on the website and has been developed to share as much information as we can in order to answer any question that you may have.

I wish to encourage you to send us your suggestions and ideas at any time. I will personally see to it that every effort is made to make your recreational experience in Lewiston enjoyable, safe and healthy!!

Best Regards, Tim Barker
