Technical Specification for WorkshopPackage IB TPS – 2 X 660 MW Units 3 & 4, Jharsuguda, Odisha  MANTRA UDYOG (TECH SPC FOR EOT-PART -D) PART D: TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION OF EOT CRANE 1.00.00 GENERAL INFORMATION This section covers the one no of 10 Tonne capacity Electric Overhead Traveling (EOT) Cranes, which will be required for handling various workshop equipments in new workshop building of OPGC. EOT crane should be able to move in existing and proposed workshop complex. Hence, the crane bus bar needs to be extended towards the existing workshop side also . So the length of the bus bar will be approximately 84 mtr (48 +36 ) 2.00.00 CODES AND STANDARDS The design, manufacture and testing of the crane shall conform to the latest editions of the following codes and standards 2.01.00 IS : 807 ‐ Code of Practice for Design, Manufacture, Erection and Testing (Structural Portion) of Cranes and Hoists. 2.02.00 IS : 3177 ‐ Code of Practice for Design of Overhead Traveling Cranes and Gantry Cranes other than Steel Works Cranes. 2.03.00 IS : 1835 ‐ Round Steel Wires for Ropes. 2.04.00 IS : 2266 ‐ Steel Wire Ropes for General Engineering Purposes. 2.05.00 IS : 3443 ‐ Crane Rail Sections. 2.06.00 IS : 15560 ‐Point Hook with Shank up to 160 tones ‐ Specification. 2.07.00 IS : 5749 ‐ Forged Ramshorn Hooks. 2.08.00 IS : 816 ‐ Code of Practice for Use of Metal Arc Welding for General Construction in Mild Steel. 2.09.00 IS : 1323 ‐ Code of Practice for Oxy‐Acetylene Welding for Structural Work in Mild Steel. 2.10.00 IS : 9595 ‐ Recommendations for metal arc welding of carbon & carbon ‐ manganese steel. 2.11.00 All electrical installation work shall comply with the provisions of Indian Electricity Act and Indian Electricity Rules as amended up to date.

4.01.00Capacity4.01.01Thesafeworkingload(X)foreachEOTcraneshallbecomputedasX=1.25xawhere a=Singleheaviestequipmentexpectedtobehandledbythecrane.4.02.00HighestPosition4.02.01Thehighestpositionreachedbytheliftinghooksshouldbesuchthatduringoperation,

theminimumverticalcriticalclearancebetweenbottomoftheequipmentbeinghandledandthetopofanypermanentstructureorequipmentintheoperatingareashouldbeatleastonemetre.

4.03.00LowestPosition4.03.01The lifting hooks should reach up to the floor of its operating area or sump pits as

necessary.4.04.00Horizontalclearance4.04.01The lifting hooks in vertical position should reach at least up to 2.5 m from the end

stopper.

4.04.02 Eitherthemainortheauxiliaryhookinverticalpositionshouldreachatleastupto1.0mfromtherunwayrails.

4.05.00IfsafeandreliablehandlingnecessitatesmoreoperatingspacefortheE.O.T.cranes,the

sameshallbeprovided.5.00.00DESIGN&CONSTRUCTION5.01.00General5.01.01In thedesignof componentson thebasisof strength, factorof safetyshallnotbe less

than five (5) based on ultimate strength. Impact, fatigue, wear and stressconcentration factors shall be taken into account, wherever applicable.MechanismclassshallbeasindicatedintheDataSpecificationSheet.

5.01.02The crane shall be rigid in construction and all movements shall be smooth and

non‐jerky.

5.01.03Drivesshallbedesignedwithadequatemargintogivebestperformanceandefficiency.Safety arrangements shall be incorporated to prevent damage to motors onaccountofmechanicaloverloadandelectrical faultsand togearing, shafts,etc.duetoover‐stressingandotherdetrimentalconditions.

5.01.04All materials shall be of tested quality and shall conform to the specificationrequirements and standardsmentioned and shall be new and first class in allrespects.

5.01.05Castings and forgings shall be of tested quality and shall conform to their respectivematerial specifications and shall be free from flaws and objectionableimperfections,machinedtrueandinaworkmanlikemanner.

5.01.06Nowoodorothercombustiblematerialshallbeusedunlessspecificallyapprovedbythe

Buyer/Consultant.5.01.07Proposals for repair or any similar operations involving plugging, welding, boring or

additionofmetal to theoriginal castingsor forgings shall be submitted to theBuyerandhisapprovalmustbeobtainedbeforeanysuchwork is carriedout.Drawingshowingdetailsand locationofsuchrepairsshallbesubmitted totheBuyer.

5.01.08Allfabricationbyweldingshallbecarriedoutbyqualifiedandcertifiedwelders.5.01.09Designshallprovide foreasymaintenanceofallparts,particularly thewheelbearings

onend‐trucks.5.01.10TemperatureEffects Where any portion of the structure is not free to expand or contract under

variationoftemperature,allowanceshallbekeptforstressresultingfromtheseconditions;theco‐efficientofexpansionforeachdegreecentigradevariationoftemperature above and below normal being taken as 0.000012 formild steel.Themaximum range of variation of temperature shall be as given in the LeadSpecification.Clause3.4ofSection3ofIS:800‐2007CodeofpracticeforuseofstructuralsteelinGeneralBuildingconstruction‐shallalsoapply.

5.01.11Maximumuseshallbemadeofshopfabricatedsub‐assemblies.5.01.12MaterialofConstruction Thematerial of constructionof themajor components of the crane shallbeas

indicatedintheDataSpecificationSheet.Manufacturersarehoweverfreetousealternativematerial,whicharesuperiorfortheintendedservice.ButinallcasestheyarerequiredtoobtainpriorconcurrenceofBuyerafterfurnishingchemicalandphysicalpropertiesof theofferedmaterial andanyother information thatmaybeaskedforbytheBuyer.

5.01.13LoadIndication The crane bridge shall have permanent inscription in English on each side,

readilylegiblefromoperatingfloor,statingmanufacturer'sname,serialno.,theyearofmanufactureandthesafeworkingload.

5.02.00StructuralDesignConsideration5.02.01Minimumthicknessofmetal Forloadcarryingmembersthecomponentplates,bars,anglesandotherrolled

sectionsshallbeminimum8mmthick. For tubeshavingbothends sealed theminimum thickness shall be4.9mm(6

SWG).Forunsealedtubestheminimumthicknessshallbe8mm.Thechequeredplatesforplatformsshallbeminimum6mmthickoverplain.

5.02.02Accessibilityformaintenance All structural parts shall be designed so that they are accessible for periodic

cleaning, brushing and painting. All rivets/bolts shall also be accessible forperiodicchecking.

5.02.03Rulingdimensionsandratio a) Forcompressionmembers,theslendernessratioshallnotexceed120.In

case of other load carrying members and subsidiary members theslendernessratioshallnotexceed180.

b) Forgirders,thefollowingvaluesofmaximumspantodepthratioshallbe

governing: Plategirders : Span/depth=18 Latticegirders: Span/depth=125.02.04Connections

a) Unlessotherwisespecified,onlyrivettedorweldedjointsshallbeused.

b) Wherewelding isnotpracticable, turnedand fittedbolts shallbeused,

c) Minimumnumberofturnedandfittedboltsinaconnectionshallnotbelessthantwo.

d) Black bolts shall not be used inmain structures and high tensile bolts

shallnotbeusedunlessapprovedbytheBuyer.Boltsshallpreferablybenotusedintension.

e) Whereboltspass through sectionshaving tapered flanges, tapered flats

shall be welded to inside of the flanges. Tapered washers shall not beused.

f) Transversefilletweldsonloadcarryingmembersshallbeavoided.Ifsidefilletsareusedinendconnections,thelengthofeachsidefilletshouldnotbelessthantheedgedistancebetweenthefillets.

g) Buttweldsonstructuralmembersundertensilestressshallbechecked

byRadiographicexaminationasandwhendirectedbytheBuyer. h) Splices shall be designed to resist one and half times the forces and

moments to which it is subjected, but in no case it shall be less than2/3rdoftheeffectivestrengthofthematerialsplicedexceptthatsplicesinthewebsoftheplategirdersshallbedesignedforfullstrengthofthewebinshearaswellasbending.

Forsplicingtensionmembers,thenetsectionofthespliceplateshallbe

ten percent more than that of the material spliced. Splices shall beproportioned and arranged, so that the gravity axis of the splices is inlinewiththegravityaxisofthemembertoavoideccentricity.

5.02.05DeflectionsandCamber

a) Thetotalmaximumverticaldeflectionofthegirdersproducedby thedeadload,weightoftrolleyandtheratedloadshallnotexceedlimitof Span/900.

b) The girders shall be cambered by an amount equal to the maximum

deflectionduetodeadloadplusonehalftheliveloadandtrolley.5.03.00BridgeGirderandEndCarriage

5.03.01 Thecraneshallhavedoublegirder10TonnesSWL,andabovethatitshallhavedoublegirder.

5.03.02 ThebridgegirdershallbeboxsectiontypeorbracedIbeamtypeasperstandarddesignofthemanufacturer.Theexteriorsurfaceshallbesmoothandasfreefromprojectionsetc.aspossibletominimisedustcollectiononit.

5.03.03double girder cranes shall be providedwith suitable truss for supporting the bridge

drivemachineryandmotor.5.03.04 The crane bridge shall be carried on end trucks of suitable design. Each end

truck shall be built up fromsteel plateswelded together to forma closedboxsectionwith opening at each end to receive thewheels.Welded to the trucksshallbesteelsectionstoformbearingsforthewheelaxlesandthedrivingshaft.End trucks shall be providedwith rail sweep and bumper. They shall also beprovidedwithsuitablejackingpadsformaintenanceofthewheelandbearings.The locationofthejackingpadsshallbesuchthat itwillnot interferewiththemaintenanceofthewheelsanditsbearing.

5.03.05 Drivingwheelsshallbeof thedouble flangeand taper tread typeandshallbe

groundtoequaldiameterinpairs.Wheelaxlesmaybeeitherofthestationaryorrotatingtypeasperstandardofthemanufacturer.Ifstationarytype,theyshallbepreventedfromturninginthetruckbymeansofakeyplatefittingintoaslotintheendoftheaxleandifrotatingtype,wheelsshallbekeyedtothem.

5.03.06 Wheremorethantwobridgewheelsareusedperendtruck,theendtruckshallbesplitintotwosections,eachcarryingonebridgeindependentofother.Twosectionsoftheendtruckshallbejoinedbysuitablejoiningdevicethatwillensureuniformwheelloading.Steelpadsshallbeweldedonthetopofendtruckswherethegirderrestsandshallbemachinedtoreceivethegirderends.

5.03.07 Trolleytravelrailendsshallbecurvedupwardstostopthetrolleysmoothlyandpreventitfromleavingtherailsincaseofovertravelatitsmaximumspeed.

5.03.08End trucks shall be equipped with spring/rubber buffers and rail sweep for bridge

travel.Therailsweepshallbesuchthatitcanpushawayanyobjectthatmayfallon the runway. The buffers shall be of substantial design and suitable forengagingthestopsattheendofrunway.

5.03.09Breathingholesshallbeprovidedincompletelyenclosedweldedboxtypegirders.Drain

holesshallbeprovidedinallplaceswherewateroroilislikelytocollect.Wherepracticable,meansofaccessshallbeprovidedforinsideinspectionofcompletelyenclosedboxgirders.

5.03.10Inbridgegirderstrengthcalculations,thetrolleyrailsandchequeredplatesshallnotbe

consideredasloadcarryingmembers.5.04.00TrolleyFrame5.04.01The trolley frame shall be built up from heavy steel plates, angles and channels

adequatelybracedtoresistvertical,lateralandtorsionalstrains,weldedtoformarigidonepieceframe.Alternatively,itmaybeofcaststeelconstruction.

On bottom of trolley frame, on each side shall be a double spring bumper to

engagestopsateachendofthebridge.

5.04.02 Equalizersheavesshallbemountedonthetrolleyframeinsuchamannerthatdeflectionresultingfromtheforceonthesheavesisnotdirectlytransmittedtothehoistingmechanism.

5.04.03 Sheavesshallbesoarrangedonthetrolleythatrope‐revvingarrangementresultingtherefromwillensurealiftingoftheloadinalmostaverticallinewithminimumofswingorsidemovement.

5.05.00PlatformsandLadders

5.05.01 Safemeansofaccessshallbeprovidedtotheoperator'scabandtoeveryplacewhereanypersonengagedintheexaminationormaintenanceofthecranehastowork.Adequatehandholdsandfootholdsshallbeprovidedasnecessary.

5.05.02 Onemetrehighdoubletierhandrailandsuitabletoe‐boardsshallbeprovidedalongtheentirelengthofplatform(onthebridge),whichshallnotbelessthan750mmwide.

5.05.03Everyplatformsshallbeprovidedwithsteelchequeredplatetopandbesecurelyfenced

withonemetrehighdoubletierhandrailsandtoeboards.Platformsshallbeofsufficientwidthtoenablenormalmaintenanceworktobeundertakensafely.

5.05.04Notused,.5.05.05Access to operator's cabin from bridge girder platform shall be by staircase having

adequatewidthandpropersloping.5.06.00Operation The crane shall be operated or from a pendant control station as specified in

DataSpecificationSheet.

5.06.02PendantStation a) The pendant station shall locate the push buttons for controlling the

variousmotionsofthecraneandshallbehungfromthecranetrolleytoaheightofapproximately1metreabovetheoperatingfloor.

b) Withpendantoperation,footoperatedbridgetravelbrakeandthe drumcontrollersneednotbeprovided.

5.07.00RepairCage

5.07.01 Arepaircageshallbeprovidedontheinsideoftheendcarriageforattendingthemaincurrentcollectors.Incase,thetrolleycurrentcollectorsarelocatedbelowtrolleyraillevelontheinsidewebsofthebridgegirders,guardsshallbeprovidedonthetrolleytopreventthehoistingropesfromcomingincontactwithconductorsaswellasarepaircageshallbeprovidedonthetrolleytoattendtheseconductors.5.07.02 Repaircagesshallalsobeprovidedatthecornersofthecrane,ifrequired,tofacilitateremovalandreplacementoflongtravelwheels.

5.07.03Therepaircagesshallbeadequatelysized,guardedforsafetyandcorrectlylocatedfor

theintendedservice.Suitableaccesstothecagesshallbeprovided.5.08.00LiftingHookBlockAssembly The liftinghookblockassembly shall be ramshorn typeor approvedequal for

capacitygreaterthan40Tonnesandpointhookwithshankforcapacitybelow40Tonnesandshall beof steel construction.Eachhookshallbe supportedonballorrollerthrustbearingandshallrotatefreelyonitsbearings.

Thesheavesofthehookblockshallbeencasedinanoiltightcasingpermitting

generous lubricationofwireropesandsheavesandalsopreventingaccidentaltappingofhands.

Allsharpedgesonthehooksshallbeeliminatedtopreventdamagetothesling

ropes.ThehooksshallconformtotherequirementsofIS:3177.5.09.00Gearing5.09.01Gears in the speed reducer unit for bridge drive and also all hoists and trolley drive

gearingshallbeenclosedinsubstantialhousingandshalloperateinoilbath.Theoilshallhaveadditivesofapprovedqualityandshallbeofapprovedviscosityatstandardtemperature(say60ºC).Thehousingshallbeofsufficientdesignnotto

5.09.02Gears shall be of cast or forged steel and pinions shall be forged steel and shall be

machinecut.Gearandpinionteethshallbetreatedforresistancetowear.5.09.03GearsshallhavetoothformandmodulesasrecommendedinIS‐3681andtheyshallbe

adequately designed to stand shock load and vibration and shall not beexcessivelynoisyinoperation.TheratingsofgearsshallbeestablishedasperIS:4460.

5.09.04Spurandhelicalgearsonlyshallbeusedforreductiongearing.5.09.05Mountingofthegearsshallbesuchthataxialthrustonthebearingisminimum.Centre

6.02.00Testsatshop6.02.01The cranes shall be subject to no load, full load and overload tests as per IS‐3177.

Otherwise the crane shall be subject to 'no‐load' test after complete assemblyandwiring.

6.02.02ThecraneshallbesubjecttodeflectiontestasperIS:3177.6.02.03If the hoisting drum offered is of welded construction, the seams shall be fully

radiographed.6.02.04Theinspectionandtestingofbuttweldedjointsshallbeperformedinaccordancewith
