I. There Are Laws to be Obedient

• Matters of the law and the Word.• Believers need to respond correctly to God-given

authority with wisdom and humility.• Our culture is very much anti-Word.• Will we stand or bow.• We must exercise prayer and seek wisdom and

discernment.

II. Meeting Your Last Enemy

• Death is unavoidable.– Ecclesiastes 8:7-10– Ecclesiastes 9:1-10– Hebrews 9:27–Matthew 7:21

• “If the heart is unclean and the life is unchanged, then the soul is unsaved.”

III. Don’t Be Deceived

• Ecclesiastes 8:11-14• There is a judgement to be feared.

IV. Therefore – Conclusion

• Ecclesiastes 12:13• Romans 6:17• “Fear God” – The fear of the Lord is that attitude of

reverence and awe, respect and honour that His people show Him because they love Him!

• Loving God is a matter of desiring to honour and to please Him.

• The person who fears the Lord will pay attention to His word and obey it.

• The fear of God must result in obedient living, otherwise it is a sham!

Scriptures

Ecclesiastes 8:7-107 For he does not know what will happen; So who can tell him when it will occur?8 No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, And no one has power in the day of death. There is no release from that war, And wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it.

Ecclesiastes 8:7-109 All this I have seen, and applied my heart to every work that is done under the sun: There is a time in which one man rules over another to his own hurt.10 Then I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of holiness, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done. This also is vanity.

Ecclesiastes 9:1-101 For I considered all this in my heart, so that I could declare it all: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God. People know neither love nor hatred by anything they see before them.

Ecclesiastes 9:1-102 All things come alike to all:

One event happens to the righteous and the wicked;To the good, the clean, and the unclean;To him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice.As is the good, so is the sinner;He who takes an oath as he who fears an oath.

Ecclesiastes 9:1-103 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: that one thing happens to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead. 4 But for him who is joined to all the living there is hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

Ecclesiastes 9:1-105 For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten.6 Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; Nevermore will they have a share In anything done under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 9:1-107 Go, eat your bread with joy, And drink your wine with a merry heart; For God has already accepted your works.8 Let your garments always be white, And let your head lack no oil.

Ecclesiastes 9:1-109 Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that is your portion in life, and in the labour which you perform under the sun.10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.

Hebrews 9:2727 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.

Matthew 7:2121 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

Ecclesiastes 8:11-1411 Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. 12 Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him. 13 But it will not be well with the wicked; nor will he prolong his days, which are as a shadow, because he does notfear before God.

Ecclesiastes 8:11-1414 There is a vanity which occurs on earth, that there are just men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

Ecclesiastes 12:1313 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all.

Romans 6:1717 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

Psalms 19:7-117 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

Psalms 19:7-1110 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.

Psalms 119:72, 97-98, 11372 The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver.97 Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.98 You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me.113 I hate the double-minded, But I love Your law.

Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 5-81 “Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you. 2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 5-85 “Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess. 6 Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’

Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 5-87 “For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him? 8 And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day.

Deuteronomy 11:18-2718 “Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.20 And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,

Deuteronomy 11:18-2721 that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth. 22 “For if you carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do—to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him— 23 then the Lord will drive out all these nations from before you,and you will dispossessgreater and mightier nationsthan yourselves.

Deuteronomy 11:18-2724 Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the River Euphrates, even to the Western Sea, shall be your territory. 25 No man shall be able to stand against you; the Lord your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, just as He has said to you. 26 “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse:27 the blessing, if you obey thecommandments of the Lordyour God which I commandyou today;

1 John 5:1-31 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves Him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

1 John 5:22 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.

1 John 5:33 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

Luke 6:4646 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?

John 14:15, 2115 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

Deuteronomy 13:44 You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.
