TrainerMs Katherine HERMANS Director Global Changemakers

Ms Katherine HERMANS is the Director of Global Changemakers. She started out as a journalist working in the Netherlands, Japan and the United States of America writing about social and environmental issues, which led to her being more actively involved. Since 2007, she has been working on development projects in the field of youth. She set up projects ranging from an educative theatre on refugees to a youth centre in Bethlehem. Since 2008 she has been working for Global Changemakers, a Swiss based NGO that encourages youth to come up with solutions and consequently supports them to make their projects and initiatives become reality. Since 2014, Ms HERMANS runs the organisation from Zürich. She is currently writing her dissertation on youth-led development at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.

SpeakersDr Maria Teresa Trinidad P. TINIO Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs Far Eastern University (FEU)

Dr Maria Teresa (Trina) P. TINIO teaches at the Department of Literature and Humanities of the Far Eastern University and is also FEU’s Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs. She received her Ph.D. in Southeast Asian Studies from the National University of Singapore. Her research focus is on Language, Politics, and Colonialism and, in these areas, has examined a range of topics including the discourses carried out both in English and Filipino during the American colonial period to establish Filipino as the national language and Philippine English and the feminisation of labour.

Ms Deena Joy D. AMATONGDirector, Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM Division) Office of European Affairs Department of Foreign Affairs, The Philippines

Ms Deena Joy D. AMATONG joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1997. Since then she has had stints in the DFA’s Office of the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, the Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Coordination and the Office of American Affairs. Ms Amatong was also assigned as Third Secretary and Vice Consul in the Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as Second Secretary and Consul in the Philippine Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, and more recently, as Minister and Consul General in the Philippine Embassy in Paris, France. Ms Amatong holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of the Philippines and a Master of Arts degree in International and Development Economics from Yale University.

Ms Moira UY is Far Eastern University’s Academic Development Coordinator for Linkage and Student Mobility. She is also an Assistant Professor at the University’s Institute of Nursing. She is responsible for the university’s international linkage activities in support of the university’s mission and vision to be among the Top 5 universities in the Philippines and a university of choice in Asia. She works in close coordination with local and international government and non-government organisations and the university’s stakeholders in the conduct of her work. She is a graduate of Far Eastern University and received her Master’s degree in Nursing at the University of La Salette in the Philippines.

Mr Oscar BOIJE Project Executive Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF)

Mr Oscar BOIJE is a Finnish national with partially Bolivian origins. Being an ASEF alumnus of the 4th ASEM Rectors’ Conference and Students Forum, he now joined ASEF’s Education Department as a Project Executive in March 2016. He works with projects under the ASEF Young Leaders Programme and the ASEF Education Policy Programme. Oscar is an International Human Rights Law LL.M graduate from Lund University in Sweden. He has also conducted studies in Colombia and Finland, where he obtained his BA (B.Soc.Sci.) in International Public Law. Prior to joining ASEF, he lived in Brussels, Belgium and was the Partnership Manager of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), Europe's largest student organisation. Oscar also worked for the European Commission and the Finnish Foreign Ministry in Lima, Peru, and the Reykjavik Arts Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland.
