Energy: Part of a bigger plan – Includes recycling, water efficiency, purchasing, certifications – Not just energy efficiency, but also carbon footprint reduction

Strategic process makes it more effective – Efficiency first

• Equipment retrofits • Improved operational processes

– Renewable energy for further CO2 reduction • Windsource®

• On-site renewable energy & carbon offsets

Today’s Key Takeaway: Efficiency doesn’t have to be complicated!

SPRC-XEC: OUR ENERGY STORY

Xcel Energy can help with lighting efficiency – Two types of programs

Custom Rebates – Apply BEFORE you buy – Requires information on existing & proposed product

• Quantity, wattages, lamp/fixture model # and price, annual hours of operation, etc.

– Rebates based on demand reduction (kW saved) • Up to $400/kW

Prescriptive Rebates – Submit AFTER purchase/install – Energy efficiency opportunities for both interior and exterior applications

• More straightforward, fixed rebate per type of fixture/lamp • LED rebates defer to Energy Star or DesignLights Consortium Qualified Product

Lists (DLC QPL) as a guideline

Steps in our process 1. Identify the upgrade location (how many lights, what kind of fixture)

2. Talk to vendors about options

• Hang samples - get feedback – compare pricing & product performance

3. Collect info for rebate application (custom rebates)

• Total fixture quantities, product specs & pricing

• Lighting layout from supplier

4. Order fixture after rebate approval

5. Install fixtures, submit for rebate after completion

One of our first Custom Rebate projects – Figuring out our process along the way

High ceiling, long distance to throw – 400w metal halide fixture Replaced with 83w LED

Results

– Much brighter, better light quality

– Incorporated daylight sensing • Lower output & energy use on sunny days

– Over $9,500 in rebates

– Energy savings: $10,000/yr

Installed in 2015 – largest lighting project to date – Biggest event space in SPRC – 371 fixtures - replacing 250w and 400w MH

Began searching in 2011 – Products initially too expensive or not enough output – Building electricians kept looking

• Finally found something simple, relatively affordable • Samples had great light output (1.5x current lights)

Project Completion – Pre-approved for over $61,000 total rebate – >$30,000/yr energy savings – Financed by SPPA’s Trillion BTU

• No out-of-pocket cost - Paid back through savings

Working with NHL as they finalize specs for LED – Hockey requires very bright light (>200fc) – Also needs: consistency, low glare

From 100+ft up in the rafters

Working with Xcel Energy to quantify current usage

– Widely varied schedule makes it hard to estimate hours Anticipated completion: Summer 2016

– Seek to replace work lights and show lights as well – Almost 400 fixtures, currently using >750,000 kWh/yr – LEDs would cut usage in half, if not 1/3

• Savings potential: $50,000-$70,000/yr

BEYOND L IGHTING RETROFITS:

RECOMMISSIONING FOR IMPROVED EFF IC IENCY

What is recommissioning? (RCx) – Helps to identify existing functional systems that can be “tuned up” to run as

efficiently as possible through low- or no-cost improvements – Two steps: diagnosis & implementation

How Xcel Energy can help

– Funding up to 75% of study cost (not to exceed $25,000) – Additional rebates available for implementing identified opportunities

Other Benefits

– Save as much as 15% on energy bills – Increase equipment life & reduce wear and tear – Earn valuable credits for environmental programs & increase your

ENERGY STAR® score

RECOMMISSIONING IN A NUTSHELL

Page 14: PARTNERSHIPS Presenters - Xcel Energy · Anticipated completion: Summer 2016 – Seek to replace work lights and show lights as well – Almost 400 fixtures, currently using >750,000

14

The Study – Almost half funded by rebates – Partner Sam Stewart & Assoc. surveyed the entire complex

• Checking equipment calibrations, leak-testing, evaluating efficiency of existing HVAC equipment & lighting

– Result: 60 recommendations for repair / improvement • Most low-cost or no-cost tweaks with very quick paybacks

The Follow-Through – Plan and timeline to implement based on cost & payback

• >30 projects have been completed

– Resulting energy savings: ~$100,000/year – Over $25,000 in further rebates for implementation

Project examples – Repairing air leaks in hard-to-reach ductwork

– Revising building-control strategies to:

• Improve space pressure, reduce equipment run-times & fan-speed settings

– Replacing CO2 sensors that were no longer calibrated properly

– Installing demand-based ventilation for kitchen equipment exhaust

In short – We tackled many simple issues and a few big improvements not easily addressed as part of daily operations & maintenance
