Parking:

Two tractor trailers can fit (very tightly) at the loading dock and remain there throughout the production. While at the dock, trucks are parallel with the side of the theatre. Access to the stage from the loading dock is through a receiving area and a short hallway located up-stage right at dock level. This area is available for bus parking as well. Shore power is available for one bus.

Note: There is a fire company connection on the side of the building–it must not be blocked!

Management:

Production Office: Located in the hallway up right of the main stage. Two (2) dedicated analog phone lines are available: 814-269-7242 and 814-269-7246. “9” must first be dialed to reach an outside line. A fax machine and a copier are available for use in the administrative office located on the second floor.

Green Room: 11’ x 23’ (3.35m x 7.01m), seating for 14; located adjacent to the dressing rooms; down one level from the stage.

Crews: Paid student staff complemented with professional union and non-union personnel.

Policies: *The house traditionally opens 1/2 hour prior to curtain. *Smoking is prohibited in all University-owned and leased property. *The stage crew is to be released from work only by the Arts Center’s technical director. *There will be a designated flyman for each event. No other personnel, either local or touring, shall use the counterweight system without this individual’s direct knowledge and consent.

Handicapped Access:

Handicapped Access: Wheel chair seating locations located house left and right rear of orchestra. Handicapped restrooms located at orchestra level, 2nd floor level, and in each of the chorus dressing rooms.

Load-In Area:

Dock: 15’0” wide x 4’0” high (4.6m x 1.2m) – At Stage Level. One or two trucks can be accommodated at a time. When trucks are at the dock, they are parallel with the side of the theatre. One dock plate is available for use.

Crossover: A secure, carpeted hallway located directly behind the stage. Access: There is access from the house onto the stage by way of steps located offstage left and right in

alcoves downstage of the proscenium. Dressing rooms, green room, and orchestra pit are located under the stage with stairs located both stage left and right. An elevator is also available.

Storage: Items can be stored in the receiving area or the Studio Theatre, which is located directly up-stage.

NOTE: There are four (4) orchestra shell roof units located on line sets 5, 14, 19 and 25 that cannot be removed.

Control Booths: Side by Side sound and lighting control booths are located at the rear of the orchestra seating level, 56’4” (17.17m) from the edge of the apron

Projection Booth: Located at the rear of the balcony, 88’ (26.8m) throw at 21 degrees. Orchestra Pit: 39’2” (11.9m) x 19’5” (5.9m) at center, arcs to 17’(5.2m) at the ends.

No lift, although there is elevator access to this level. Height is adjustable by using Midwest Folding Product Platforms/Risers. See Attachment D for diagram.

Carpentry:

House Draperies (Soft Goods): House Curtain: Burgundy in color, guillotine only, sewn flat with fullness tied in, bottom chain installed,

located on the first line-set but it can be relocated or struck if necessary. Manual operation is from the lock rail stage left.

House Border: The standard operation is to utilize an out trim on the House Curtain.

Legs: 4 pairs, black velour, 15’ wide x 30’ high (4.6m x 9.1m), no fullness, OR 6 pairs are available if a Full Stage Black is not used.

Borders: 4, black velour, 60’ wide x 8’ high (18.3m x 2.4m), no fullness

Full Stage Black: 1, black velour, consists of two pairs of legs (see above)

Scrims: 1, black sharks-tooth, 55’w x 34’ 8”h (16.8m x10.6m), in fair condition.

Cyclorama: 1, natural seamless muslin, 55’ wide x 32’ high (16.8m x 9.8m)

Batten type: Truss-style battens manufactured from 1-1/4” (.03m) pipe

Batten length: 59’ (18m); Exceptions are #1 is 52’ (15.8m), and #2 and #3 are 56’ (17.1m).

Batten notes: There are four (4) orchestra shell roof units located on line sets 5, 14, 19, and 25 that cannot be removed. Upon consultation with the PPAC Technical Director, certain items (i.e. soft goods) may share the same line set with these units. Orchestra shell canopies on line sets 5 and 14 measure 8' 7" (2.6m) from the bottom of the shell to the batten, and similarly, orchestra shell canopies on line sets 19 and 25 measure 7' 8" (2.3m).

Batten High Trim: Approximately 55’ (16.8m)

Batten Low Trim: Approximately 4’ (1.2m) except for line sets 5, 14, 19, and 25 due to orchestra shell roof units.

Counterweight type: All line-sets are single-purchase, T-Bar guided

Available Counterweight:

12,685 lbs. (5754kg) available between the loading gallery, fly loft, and the deck.

Counterweight type and size:

All counterweights measure 6” (.15m) in width and 13.75” (.35m) in length. There are 550 - 2” (.05m) thick @ 40+ pounds (18+kg) ea., 175 - 1” (.03m) thick @ 25+ pounds (11+kg) ea., for a grand total of 26,375 pounds (11963kg). There are 336 - 2” (.05m) and 10 - 1” (.03m) weights permanently in use to counterweight the empty battens and the orchestra shell roof units.

Orchestra Pit Opening:

45’W x 6’D (13.7m x 1.8m) at the center line and arcs to 2’4”D (.7m) at the offstage ends

Orchestra Pit Depth: 12’ (3.7m) from the stage level to the pit floor

Inner Pit Depth: 10’ (3.1m) ceiling at the stage floor opening and slopes down to 8’2” (2.5m) at the up-stage wall of the pit

Orchestra Pit NOTES: The majority of the orchestra pit is recessed under the stage: European Style. There is no lift, although there are stage level covers. Obstructions are two support pillars. Portable carpeted risers are used to raise the height of the conductor and the down-stage musicians. See Attachment D for diagram.

Floor Construction: The stage floor is sprung and assembly above the concrete is as follows:

3/8” (.0095m) thick neoprene pads at 16” (.4064m) on center, attached to the next layer; 1”x3” (.0254m x .0762m) wood sleepers at 16” (.4064m) on center; 1”x3” (.0254m x .0762m) wood sleepers at 16” (.4064m) centers, perpendicular to the layer below; 5/8” (.0159m) tongue and groove plywood; 3/4” (.019m) oak flooring finished with ArmorSeal Tread-Plex Semi-Gloss Tricorn Black

NOTE: No lagging, nailing or screwing into the floor without prior consultation with the PPAC technical director. Drywall screws are prohibited.

Lighting:

Power: Two (2) disconnects; 120/208V (meters at 115/200), 3 phase, 5 - wire, 400A/leg; located up-stage right, lugs for tie-in. Note: these disconnects are wired parallel with the dimmer rack.

Dimmers: 176, Colortran, 2.4kw per dimmer, ENR 96 Series racks, replacement dimmers are available. Control protocol is CMX - a Fleenor Design DMX 512 Combine Unit converts DMX to CMX.

Control Boards: ETC ION 1000 with 1024 Output, ETC FADW 2x10, ETC FADW 2x20, ETC Radio Focus Remote (for ION), is located in a control booth located at the rear of the orchestra level, DMX 512 protocol. Also available: a Leprechaun LPX-24, ETC Expression 3, 400 channels, with Reflection backup.

House Lights: Control is available through a separate console. Two (2) separate wall plate control stations are also located within the complex.

Circuits: All circuits are 2.4kw with stage pin 2P&G connectors; 20 at the 2nd FOH Beam, 10 at the 1st FOH Beam, 5 per Box Boom, 1 each at 4 balcony rail positions, 20 drop box circuits from the stage left fly gallery, 90 drop box circuits from the stage right fly gallery, and 42 circuits at the deck level. Note: 20 of the deck circuits are the same as 20 located in the drop boxes.

left, lugs for tie-in, separate transformer from lighting power. Wiring: 16-channel snake with four returns, sending end is downstage right with the other end located in

the sound control booth or at the mix-site. Control Booth: Located at the rear of the orchestra level.

House mix position: Located house left, at the back of the orchestra section. Even though this location is under the balcony, the vast majority of touring companies find it acceptable.

Monitor/Paging Systems:

Paging is accomplished through channel ‘B’ of the intercom system along with the input of the run of show microphone located in the house. The signal is sent to Clear-Com speaker stations located in each of the 2 chorus dressing rooms, the 2 star dressing rooms, and the green room. An external program input instead of the microphone is possible.

Production Communications:
