Spring may have sprung by the time you are reading this. But today as I write, it is 41 degrees outside.

April showers are supposed to bring May flowers.

We are supposed to be a people of GOING. But today as I write, we are still staying at home.

When the renewal of Spring finally arrives...

When the renewal of our GOING arrives...

Let us not return to our lives as they were!

Let us not return to Christian lives as they were!

This is our golden opportunity to transform ourselves and our church into something new...something renewed...

Let us be the missional, loving church in our community that God is readying us to be!

God is good...all the time...and all the time...God is good!

Blessings to you all!

Yours in Christ,

The Shepherd’s Staff Our Vision Statement:

Fulfilling our mission through passonate worship, intentional disciple development, compas-sionate congregation care, in-volved community outreach,

and risk-taking missions.

ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL MINUTES – APRIL 19, 2020

The virtual meeting on Zoom of the Administrative Council was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Kent Conger. Dick Nye led us in Prayer and devotion. The Agenda was amended to add a Hand Sanitizer report under New Business. It was moved, seconded and passed by vote to accept this amended Agenda. It was moved, seconded and passed to accept the February 16, 2020 Minutes as provided. Financial Report: Marilu reported that our current General Checking Account balance as of last Tuesday was $49,026.29. She said that this did not include the reimbursement check from Little Lambs for their payroll because they had not yet re-ceived their grant money, which would be deposited into their account on April 29th. She reported that all payroll taxes had been paid and all payroll tax reports were current. She said that as of March 10th we have not paid our tithing payments to Conference. She added that we are continuing to make deposits and so far we have made 3 deposits since the church has been closed. She said that our mail is being picked up daily. Marilu also mentioned that we have at least 32 people in our congregation that do not have internet and/or a computer. She said that Tina Mercer would be mailing our May newsletter to these 32 people. There being no questions regarding our Financial Reports, they will be filed for audit. Director of Family Ministry’s Report: Susan Nyquist reported that she has been keeping in touch with the Youth and eve-ryone seems to be doing ok. They are going to have a virtual meeting soon. She is also planning a virtual meeting with the confirmands. She said that the Children’s Storytime is still on Facebook. Susan reported that VBS has been pushed back one week. The new dates are June 22nd through June 25th. She will try to have a virtual VBS Core Team meeting soon. She has some VBS volunteers who have already signed up but needs more. Committee Reports Education: Debbie Specht announced that the Child Protection meeting would be held on Sunday, May 31, at 10:00 a.m. Finance: Penny Bond reported that the new computer is now up and running in the church office. She said that the company that we use for our financial and people reports waived their $1,000 fee to join e-Giving, so with that money saved, a new lap-top computer was purchased for Marilu to do work from home and with the new OnDemand software she can now access the financial information. Penny said that the on-ling eGiving would be available soon. She noted that if people chose to use their checking account numbers rather than using debit or credit cards, the processing fees would be lower. She said that people would also have the option to help pay for these processing fees. Penny said that the Covid-19 Payroll Protection Plan had been she had received word that our application had been successfully processed. It was noted that as long as the money received was used for payroll and utilities, this is a grant, not a loan. Penny also reported that on April 2, 2020 via e-mail the following motion was made, seconded and passed by majority: Good Shepherd UMC will pursue a Payroll Protection grant through the Small Business Administration. Little Lambs: Dick Nye reported that Little Lambs had not re-opened and was waiting to see what the church was going to do. Trustees: Bill Nelson reported that the HVAC company would be coming out soon to switch the equipment from heating to air conditioning. He emphasized that it was very important that no one turn off the boiler before this company does its work. He asked that word be gotten out to the congregation that no one was to make any changes in the boiler room. Old Business: Dick Nye read the following proposed revised Vision Statement: “Fulfilling our mission through passionate worship, intentional disciple development, compassionate congregational care, involved community outreach, and risk-taking missions.” Motion was made, seconded and passed to adopt this new Vision Statement. New Business: Kent Conger reported for Judy Jones that we had received a quote for under $300 from Acorn (the company where we buy our cleaning supplies) for 4 Automatic Sanitizer Dispensers and drip shields and 6 bags of the sanitizers. It was suggested that we put 2 downstairs by the entrances in Fellowship Hall and 2 upstairs, one in the hall near the exit close to the quilting room and one in the Narthex. It was noted that they don’t have a delivery date at this time. Motion was made, seconded and passed to purchase these sanitizer dispensers and sanitizer liquid. Pastor’s Report: Pastor Mark gave many thanks to all the people who have been stepping up during this crisis. He went on to say that we need to begin to look at what church will look like when we go back to our new normal. We need to begin to plan for the future. Kent announced that the next Ad Council meeting would be on Sunday, May 24, at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. There being no further business, it was duly moved, seconded and passed to adjourn the meeting at 7:04 p.m. followed by

Pastor Mark giving the closing prayer. Respectfully submitted, Marilu Propps, Secretary Attendees: Kent Conger, Pastor Mark, Dick Nye, Sue Nye, Cindy Coleman, Penny Bond, Ron Bond, Susan Nyquist, Jon Al-bright, Jess Albright, Kim Webb, Bill Nelson, Ron Specht, Debbie Specht, Doug Bullard, Julie Bullard, Vince Crabb and Marilu Propps

Our New Vision Statement:

Fulfilling our mission through

passionate worship,

intentional disciple development,

compassionate congregation care,

involved community outreach,

and risk-taking missions.

Changing from Heating to Air Conditioning

It’s that time of year again. Our HVAC company will be coming in soon to switch us from heat to air conditioning. This is just a reminder that it is so im-portant that no one shut down the boiler before they do their work. Thanks

They Will Be Missed Virginia Birtcil passed away on April 9th. Virginia was at her daughter’s (Debbie Young) home when she passed. Her ashes will be taken to Pennsylvania later this year and a memorial service will be held there. Our prayers and sympathy go out to Debbie and her family. Donna Pope passed away on April 17th. Donna had been a member of Good Shep-herd for 35 years. The body is being cremated and there are no other plans at this time. Our prayers and sympathy go to Jack and family.

Last year, many of you played an important role in making our Vacation Bible School an amazing experience! Together, we were able to reach a number of children as

they explored God's Word and God's love for them. We served families and touched lives and hearts for Jesus.

Currently, the plan is that Rocky Railway VBS will be rolling into town for four evenings this year, starting Monday, June 22nd through Thursday, June 25th, and GSUMC will be "engineering a life-changing VBS" for children. Be sure to save these dates now and get ready to climb aboard for mountains of fun! On this faith-filled adventure, kids will discover that trusting Jesus will guide them through life’s ups and downs, and how Jesus' power pulls us through whatever life throws our way.

Although current events have kept us apart physically, we are looking forward to the time when we may gather again for fellowship and worship. We look forward to sharing the love of Christ with all of God's children. With that in mind, we are moving forward in our plans for Va-cation Bible School.

Where and how would you like to serve during this remarkable adventure?

Volunteer now and together we will "keep kids on track with rock-solid Biblical truths"!

We need station leaders and crew leaders to come alongside of the children and help them to discover the transforming love of Jesus.

Please reply by email to "[email protected]" or either text or call Susan Nyquist at (513) 376-1115, if you are willing to take part this year. .

May God bless you and keep you, today, and always.

Thank you to all who brought over their boxes of Mac N Cheese for donating to Fletcher Place and God’s Bounty.

Thank you, Susie Ammerman, for making and distributing the much-needed face masks.

Child Protection Training

Sunday, May 31st

, 10 a.m.

Mark your calendars - Good Shepherd UMC values the children who attend our pro-grams. In order to safeguard this trust, the Administrative Council requires all individuals who work with children at our church to at-tend an annual Child Protection Training. The only training this year will be Sunday, May 31st, at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Helpful safety information in the event of an emer-gency will be covered in addition to reviewing our church policies on how we as a church protect our children. The training will last about 15 minutes to allow participants to at-tend Sunday School. Please be sure to put this date on your calendar.

HEALTH NOTES

3John2: Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

Handwashing is like a “do it yourself” vaccine. According to the centers for disease control, “the most important thing you can do to keep from getting sick is to wash your hands”. Judicious hand washing can prevent not only common diseases like colds, but also more serious diseases like Covid-19, hepatitis A, meningitis and infectious diarrhea. It’s quick, it’s simple and it can keep us all from getting sick. Handwashing is a win for everyone, except the germs.

When to wash hands: - Always wash your hands after using the bathroom, changing diapers, cleaning up after your

pets, or handling money. - Wash your hands when they are dirty. - Always wash your hands before eating. Also, before, during and after preparing food. - Wash hands after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Don’t cough or sneeze into your

hands. Cough into the bend of your elbow. - Refrain from putting your hand/fingers on your face i.e. eyes, nose or mouth. - Avoid touching people and surfaces with unclean hands. - Before and after treating a cut or wound. - Before and after caring for someone who is sick. - After touching garbage.

Correct way of washing hands

- Wet hands with warm water and use soap. - Rub your hands together, making sure to scrub all areas. The most commonly neglected areas missed in hand washing are the tips of the fingers, palm of the hand and the thumb. - Rub for a minimum of 20 seconds or sing Happy Birthday. Jesus Loves Me or any favorite

tune. - Rinse thoroughly, then dry hands on a clean towel. - Turn faucet off with the towel to keep away from recontamination.

By frequently washing your hands, you wash away germs that you have picked up from other peo-ple, or from contaminated surfaces, or from animals and animal waste. The simple act of consist-ently performing this basic task properly will make a big difference in your own household as well as in work, school and public settings.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizers, which don’t require water, are an acceptable alternative when soap and water are not available. Sanitizers may not eliminate all types of germs and might not remove harmful chemicals. If you choose to use a hand sanitizer, make sure the product contains at least 60% alcohol – then follow these simple steps. 1) Apply enough product to the palm of your hand to wet your hands completely. 2) Rub your hands together covering all surfaces until they are dry. One of the primary dangers for children is the high alcohol content. Adults should always control a child’s hand sanitizer use.

MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR OF FAMILY MINISTRIES

I don't remember my dad ever carrying me on his shoulders. He may have and I'm just too old to recall it. It's also possible he didn't because he was in Vietnam when I was a baby/toddler and then spent almost a year in an Army Hospital with tuberculosis after he came back. However, I have countless memories of him carrying my girls in his arms and on his shoulders. Sometimes it was just because they adored "Grandpa" and wanted to be held. I distinctly remember attending a downtown festival, when Melissa was about three and she wanted to be on Grandpa's shoulders and he willingly complied. She was eating a chocolate chip cookie, which melted into his hair, and he never complained. I remember Vanessa being about two and wanting to be carried around at Kings Island, and even though she had a leaky diaper, Grandpa held her without complaint.

So sometimes the carrying was for pure enjoyment, and sometimes it was because we were doing something like trekking around Kings Island or hiking through the woods or were at a place like the zoo and little legs on little girls simply got worn out. My Dad was always glad to lift those little girls up.

Today I was thinking about how our Heavenly Dad is always glad to lift up His children. I was also thinking of all the good people out there who "carry us" and lift us up with their prayers and their love when we don't have the strength to do that for ourselves. God bless those who lift up others.

My prayer is that I may always look in the mirror and say, "Let that be me" for someone else. May I be a "lifter" and a "carrier" for those who need strength and encouragement. Won’t you join me? Let us encourage one another with our words and prayers. Amen.

There are a variety of smoothie combinations to incorporate some of these nutritious suggestions. You can get online for a variety of combinations. Most are mixed in a blender.
