Governor Matt Bevin called faith and community leaders to a meeting to discuss how to help curb crime issues which plague various communities. His idea: Prayerwalking! He said, "The lieutenant governor and myself laid out a very simple request to people: It is harnessing people of faith to pray for the community, engage with the community by physically walking blocks in that community, praying for the community... It doesn't matter the age of people; we need young people and old people alike who genuinely believe in the power of prayer who want to [infuse] respect, dignity and hope into those communities and want to do that by physically being in those communities and walking around them." First let me say this is genuinely refreshing and second we need to follow his advice for our com- munity. Indeed there are more issues than just crime which God is concerned about and for which He has commissioned us to be actively engaging. There are a variety of social issues like: poverty, homelessness, education, unemployment and oth- ers which directly affect ones view of themselves, view of their community and view of God. After all, if people hear the message: God loves youbut they see no tangible results of love then it is merely self-righteous religious talk. I think Governor Bevin is on to something here which is clearly taught in principle in Scripture. If we pray for something or someone we must act on that person or things behalf or else we are just asking God to fix it miraculously without our involvement. But when we invest our time in prayer and back that up with action God will move through the faith and obedience of His people. This is not to say we can fix these things without God, Governor Bevins knows well the solution isnt in the fixing of the external problems but in the hearts of the people and the way to the heart must be a divine moving and miracle through Gods people. He said, "There is no single solution. There is no one thing that is going to fix what ails our communities at all. What we proposed today was a single component of many things that need to be done." He knows that when sincere people invest time to pray God will move people to action. This governor has issued a wakeup call to get us out of bed and engage our communities rather than sleeping in as they disintegrate into further struggle. The Devil is relentless and we must meet his efforts with the power of the Holy Spirit and the actions of Jesus. Jesus constantly went through the towns and cities talking, teaching and ministering to people telling the gospel in words and through his actions so He would be understood. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father full of grace and truth. There was no question why Jesus entered a city, it was to initiate change, to confront sin with the life changing words of the gospel and the loving action of a caring savior. The disciples picked up on this and when Jesus called them to go out and make disciples they knew what to do. Go out to where the people are and be Jesus. Go and make disci- ples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spir- it, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. They werent political and yet politicians noticed, they didnt teach economics and yet entire economies changed, they were not moral teachers and yet morality improved. This is the life changing power of the gospel and complete life transforming ability of Gods Holy Spirit. This is a picture of the kingdom of God, we are awaiting a full and complete consummation and are during our temporal existence called to be an agent of the kingdom bringing the kingdom to earth. The governor said, "I'm not going to have a commissioner of prayerwalks. We're not going to have 1-800 numbers and websites. You don't need permission from me how to do it. You know, you walk to a corner, pray for the people, talk to people along the way," he said, encouraging those who participate not to sing or chant or even wear group T-shirts but to simply "be pleasant, talk to the people, that's it." Will you join this bold governor in our communities here in Wauchula and Zolfo Springs praying, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven? We know Gods will for His followers. Will you make a step forward of being Jesus and begin praying? Need to Contact Us? Here are our updated emails. CHRIS’ COLUMN p. 2 CHRIS’ COLUMN The Governor of Kentucky asked for help and we should listen and do what he has asked. It doesn't matter the age of people; we need young people and old people alike who genuinely believe in the power of prayer who want to [infuse] respect, dignity and hope into those communities and want to do that by physically being in those communities and walking around them."

First let me say this is genuinely refreshing and second we need to follow his advice for our com-munity. Indeed there are more issues than just crime which God is concerned about and for which He has commissioned us to be actively engaging. There are a variety of social issues like: poverty, homelessness, education, unemployment and oth-ers which directly affect ones view of themselves, view of their community and view of God. After all, if people hear the message: “God loves you” but they see no tangible results of love then it is merely self-righteous religious talk.

I think Governor Bevin is on to something here which is clearly taught in principle in Scripture. If we pray for something or someone we must act on that person or thing’s behalf or else we are just asking God to fix it miraculously without our involvement. But when we invest our time in prayer and back that up with action God will move through the faith and obedience of His people. This is not to say we can fix these things without God, Governor Bevins knows well the solution isn’t in the fixing of the external problems but in the hearts of the people and the way to the heart must be a divine moving and miracle through God’s people.

This governor has issued a wakeup call to get us out of bed and engage our communities rather than sleeping in as they disintegrate into further struggle. The Devil is relentless and we must meet his efforts with the power of the Holy Spirit and the actions of Jesus. They weren’t political and yet politicians noticed, they didn’t teach economics and yet entire economies changed, they were not moral teachers and yet morality improved. This is the life changing power of the gospel and complete life transforming ability of God’s Holy Spirit.
