Flamboyant Autumn

Autumn's picturesque arrival

Is a colorful array

Of red and gold and orange,

In flamboyant, rich display. Autumn days are shorter;

The nights are getting cool;

Geese fly south in flocks,

As kids go back to school. Winter still is dreaming

Of snow and icicles,

As we put away our

swimsuits,

Our boats and bicycles. Wisps of smoke from

chimneys

Tell of cozy, crackling fires;

Fall is being born,

As summer now retires.

HOMESICK!

“We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” Paul in his second letter to the believers in Corinth.

Ireland was beautiful. From Dublin, down to the southwest peninsulas and the Ring of Kerry, the Cliffs of Moher, the city of Galway and back to Dublin; Leslie and I took in all the sights, sounds, tastes and music of that wonderful country. Yes, it is very green. The moss grows on all sides of the trees and the heather blankets the hills. We were busy everyday visiting one castle after another and stopping at small villages along the way. It was wonderful. Leslie is a homebody. She loves being home and taking care of the house and her gardens as well as holding Mr. Bingley, our fourteen pound spoiled dachshund. When Leslie and I go on vacation, I can tell when she is getting homesick. It usually starts around the second day when she starts to mention Mr. Bingley. Then she wonders about her flowers and how the house is. Then she pines a bit about friends and the women’s group, etc. By day three, she is actually ready to come home. Ireland was different - she made it to day four! I was impressed. However, after six days, I too was ready to come home. There is something in all of us that when we are away from our home, we begin to yearn to be back there. For those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior, we have now become citizens of Heaven, and therefore, are actually away from our true home - Heaven. There are times when I am so frustrated with this world that I find myself saying, “OK, Jesus. I would not mind if you came back today!” I yearn to be with Jesus; to be in Heaven where every tear is wiped away and all sin and death are gone. Paul alludes to this in his second letter to the Corinthians.

For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 2 Corinthians 5:1-4

It is nice to know that this body of mine is temporary. Paul describes it as a tent. It is also very nice to know that the body I will have in Heaven is permanent, like a strong building. I don’t know if I can say that I groan to leave this body and this world behind. I do know that when I leave this world, I will be clothed in the imperishable and I will be swallowed up in LIFE! LIFE - we will never know what true life is until we pass from this temporary world to the dwelling place God has prepared for us. That is exciting!

Community Cupboard of Elizabethtown Below is a list of items the Community Cupboard of Elizabethtown is in need of the following. Food donations may be placed in the lobby on the shelves next to the church mailboxes. Canned pears, canned peaches, canned pineapples, canned spinach, canned carrots, canned cream style corn, canned soup (no tomato or chicken noodle), ketchup, pas-ta noodles, pasta sauce, snack items, bottled water, juice, paper towels, toilet paper, soap, deodorant, & laundry de-tergent.

I find myself occasionally saying, “I can’t wait, but I can,” when I think about Heaven - our real home. So I am homesick but God has things for me to do here on earth. Paul tells in his letter to the Philippians, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. … I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.” Paul is definitely homesick for the Lord. Paul reminds us that we all still have work to do in this earth Pennsylvania is beautiful and I really love our home and our church. But there is a part of me that yearns to be with Jesus in my real home. How about you?

“We will listen and obey, and obey, and obey….” Everyday ! Tiny Timbers is really moving right along. One full week has already come and gone. The students are adjusting beauti-fully and getting into the “groove” of the everyday schedule.

We started out with a school tour and learning about our classroom rules. For our Bible Story we learned about God’s rules – the Ten Commandments and Listening and Obeying.

We learned classroom manners of picking up our toys-”Peter Picker Upper” and taking turns with friends-“Terry Turn Taking Turtle”- fun ocean creatures. We have crayoned, glued and cut strips. (ask your child). We were introduced to scissors and learned scissor safety rules. We have learned lots of songs, played on the playground, and just been hav-ing a wonderful time learning and getting to know our friends and teachers.
