Stewardship Reflection

“No servant can serve two masters. He will hate one and

love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other.

You cannot serve God and mammon (wealth).” LUKE 16:13

Is money a “god” that you put before God? Giving money to

support the Church and other charity is a pillar of our Faith,

just like attending Mass every Sunday and participating in

parish ministry. Giving money frees us from being a slave to

money and increases our dependence on God and to trust

that He will provide all that we need.

Respect Life Corner

The Fruit of Our Lives – We see the fruit of our lives in

our children. But our vocation to fruitfulness is greater than

even this.

Learn, Act, Connect, Pray: Everything is called to gener-

ate new life in others and to proclaim the great hope of our

Lord Jesus Christ. Even if we cannot have children, our

love is called to be fruitful in our work and rest, our family

life, or adoration and mission. All of us, whatever our state

in life, are called to spiritual parenthood. Pray that we hear

and recognize our own call.

Jubilee Year of Mercy

Not enough.

A personal relationship with God is important. But it is not

enough. Not if we listen well to the spoken Word of God.

From Amos and the People of the Old Testament, we learn

this: do not be greedy, do not cheat, do not beat down the

poor. From Luke, we learn this: own your possessions and

use them for good. Do not let them own you. Do not – be-

cause we are mere stewards of what belongs to another. It

really all belongs to God the Creator of all.

If I look at all I have, what can I give away?

How will I serve God by serving others?

This week, I will _________________________.

there for us…. at baptisms, weddings, First Communion and

them during their retirement years through a gift to the Retired

Diocesan Priests Collection. All funds will be used for long-term

nursing care, Medicare supplemental insurance and prescription

medications. Note: Our diocesan priests do not receive any fund-

ing from the Retirement Fund for Religious collection which is

held in December. Show your appreciation with a generous gift

next weekend -- September 17-18. Thank you so much!

Message from TDF

Evangelization, Stewardship & Community Building

Today, Sunday, September 18 is Catechetical Sunday. The 2016 focus is on the theme “Prayer: The Faith

Prayed.” Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists are called forth to be commissioned

for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays,

by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all

to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. In both St. Joseph Parish and St. Paul Parish there are

members of the faith community who have accepted the role of catechist, one who share the faith with others in the Parish

School of religion (PSR) program. There are others who serve as catechists in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

(RCIA), youth ministry and catechesis, Bible study programs and other adult faith formation programs. Through our Bap-

tism each one of us is called to be a “prophet”, on who elected to bring God’s message to others both in our words and ac-

tions. I extend my sincere thanks to all who have accepted the call to serve as catechists.

The first annual joint Parish Family Picnic was a great gathering on a beautiful day. I was quite delighted with the number of

parishioners from St. Paul Parish who attended. I am grateful to all who made the event so wonderful.

This past week I, with the priests of the diocese, participated in the annual Priests’ Convocation in St.

Louis. It is always good to gather with one another and share conversation, study, prayer, and fellow-

ship. Please pray for the priests of the diocese for vocations to the Priesthood.

PARISH MISSION 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept 25 (Theme.. Gospel)

Monday, Sept 26 (Theme.. Spiritual Warfare)

Tuesday, Sept 27 (Theme.. Holy Spirit / Healing)

Wednesday, Sept28 (Theme.. Discipleship / Eucharist)

The first annual St. Joseph and St. Paul Parish Family

Picnic was a great success. Parishioners from both par-

ishes came out in numbers that were even larger than

last years. Everyone enjoyed the plentiful great food,

music, games and attractions that were there. We also

paid a special tribute to all of our first responders in

memory of their efforts during the September 11th trag-

edy; who were represented at the picnic by our Fire,

Police and the Air Evac Helicopter Team.

We would like to give thanks to all those from St. Jo-

seph and St. Paul who worked so tirelessly and dili-

gently to make our picnic such a success and pleasure

for all who attended. Don’t miss looking at the pictures

and videos on our Webpage and Facebook page!
