Dear fellow pilgrims,

New Year greetings to you in the blessed name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

As we start our New Year we look back over the way we have come and also look ahead where we are going. What is our anticipation for this year? Is there full of enthusiasm, looking forward eagerly to what each day will bring? Or are we filled with fear and worries? We as His children don’t have to worry for anything when God is in control. Let us take heart in knowing that God is our refuge. Bible says be of good cheer – This is one of our Lord’s repeated statements of encouragement. Literally it means, “Cheer up by taking courage or being encouraged!”

We take courage only when we feel the presence of the Lord. We are encouraged only when we trust and obey Him in all our affairs. Psalm 118: 8 says, It is better to take refuge in the LORD, than to trust in man. A refuge is a fortress, a place of safety. The nation of Israel has lived with that fear as long as they have been in existence. During the time of the psalmist, a great fear was that the enemies which surrounded their border would invade. In those moments they needed a place of safety, a place to hide, a fortress. The psalmist understood that there is a fortress that goes beyond the fortress built with human hands, and that was God. He further says in verse 6 that the LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

Psalmist experienced God’s strength in his life. Strength is a word that means our inner strength. Psalmist also says in Ps. 46:1 that God is a very present help in trouble. The word trouble is an interesting Hebrew word which means that everything feels like it is pressing in around you. It feels overwhelming like you are being smothered. The psalmist says that God is our help. However, many times we fail to experience God’s help in times of trouble and pain. The answer is simple that we have depended on our own strength and did not trust the Lord our God wholeheartedly.

In John 16:33 we read the assurance of Jesus;“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Let us not forget in this New Year that it is better to trust the Lord than to put confidence in man. Trusting

in God completely may not always be an easy choice, but it will always be the best choice! Trust does not exist in a vacuum, it grows by constant choice and through constant use in the conflicts of life. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”! Prov. 3:5

A man of God writes; ‘I was regretting the past and fearing the future. Suddenly my Lord was speaking: “My name is ‘I AM.’” He paused. I waited. He continued, “When you live in the past with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard. I am not there. My name is not ‘I WAS.’ When you live in the future with its problems and fears, it is hard. I am not there. My name is not ‘I WILL BE.’ When you live in this moment, it is not hard; I am there! My name is ‘I AM!’”

Praise God for all our activities in the month past month. Praise God for the SS, MYF, WSCS, MMF, Bible Study, Helping the Poor and Needy, Ministry of the Praise and Worship & Choir Team. Praise God for His grace and protection upon our lives throughout the month. Praise God for the strength and good health that He has given to all of us in the ministry of the Word. Praise God for all our special speakers and guests last month.

Praise God for His faithfulness in providing us with the needed resources and help in the life of the Church. Specially give thanks to God for IMC Annexe and all the new activities taking up in the building. Praise God for the building inspection from the concerned authorities from the minority commission that was successfully carried out and the second instalment of 50 lakhs that we have received.

Pray for the Ministry of Methodist Church In India as we celebrate MCI Formation day on the 7th of this month. Especially Churches/ Outreach work/ Institutions in all our conferences. Pray for Bishop N.L. Karkare and Mrs. Kamal Karkare, our Episcopal leaders for their leadership in the conference. Keep our pastors and their families in your prayers.

Pray for the Mission and Vision of MCI and for the journey ahead of us in this year. Pray earnestly for God’s continued guidance and blessing upon us. Pray for revival in each one of us, in the Church and in this nation. Keep our country in your everyday prayers as we all give thanks to God for the freedom that we enjoy and the resources that we are provided with.

Pray for God’s protection and guidance upon our family members who are working or studying abroad. Pray for the sick and suffering. May God give them a speedy recovery and strengthen them in their faith. Pray for all those who are unwell and recovering.

The dawning of a new year provides an excellent opportunity to wipe the slate clean and make a fresh start. Remembering God’s faithfulness and forgetting past mistakes can make entering the new year a time of joyous anticipation. One more long journey of life is passed. The old year is dead. Roll it away Let it go. God in His providence has brought us out of it. And now we stand at the beginning of the next New year. As we move into the new year we should pause and remember God’s faithfulness and blessings during the past 12 months. But as for our failures and disappointments are concerned let’s make the beginning of the new year a time to forget. Look ahead and seek God’s way.

When God forgives, He also forgets, God’s forgiveness is the door to a new beginning. If you walk with God Today, you can be confident about Tomorrow. God promised, “The Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” Is.52:12. “We too can take comfort in knowing that our God will never leave us nor forsake us.” Hebrews 13:5. As we begin a new year, we can place ourselves and all our yesterdays and tomorrows safely in His care. It’s never too late to begin again.

“You have nothing to do but to save souls. Therefore, spend and be spent in this work. And go not only to those that need you, but to those that need you most. It is not your business to preach so many times, and to take care of this or that society; but to save as many souls as you can; to bring as many sinners as you possibly can to repentance.”
