TRANSCRIPT
August 12th is our annual blessing of students and teachers. We will invite kids and those working in education to prayer as they start a new school year. August 19th is our Sunday School Promotion Sunday. We will promote our students to their next Sunday School grade and present Bibles to our third graders. August 26th will be a day for kids to completely take over our church. Christian Illusionists Glenda and Mike
Mann will have a special show that day in place of the regular message.
In addition to these Sunday experiences, I will be leading an special session for parents on Thursday, August
2nd. I will be speaking on the topic of "Praying with and for your Kids" at His Place at 7:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity for parents to learn together as the kids are busy in VBS. I am proud to serve a church that takes investing in the Rising Generation seriously. Let's continue this commitment as we launch into Kids' Month! Pastor Chris
THE RISING GENERATION A couple days ago I attended an event in City Park sponsored by Evangelical Free and our church. "Go Fish" put on a high energy concert for 800-1000 parents and their children. Some of the songs were new, and others were jazzed up versions of some old Sunday School favorites such as "The B-I-B-L-E" and "I'm in the Lord's Army". It was an awesome evening as our church provided free water and popcorn for the high-energy crowd. The event also reminded me how important it is to invest in the Rising Generation. One Christian thinker had said that the great missional question for our generation is "How are the kids?". The state of our children is the future state of the church. If our children are learning to know, trust, and obey Jesus Christ, our future is bright. August is "Kid's Month" at First Methodist. Each Sunday will feature an opportunity to pour into our kids. August 5th will be the culmination of our Babylon VBS. Our VBS kids will share what they learned and experienced the week before.

SPECIAL SESSION WITH PASTOR CHRIS FOR PARENTS As stated in Pastor’s article on page 1, Pastor Chris will be leading a spe-cial session for parents on Thursday, August 2nd. He will be speaking on the topic of "Praying with and for your Kids" at His Place at 7:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity for par-ents to learn together as the kids are busy in VBS. (Please park on State Street due to VBS.)
PHASE 1 BUILDING PROJECT A church conference is scheduled for Monday, August 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. We are ready to transition to design. During the de-sign phase, our architect will com-plete detailed schematics, our de-sign-build firm will receive bids for work, and we'll complete a detailed financial plan. Upon completion of the design phase, another church conference approval is required prior to construction. Please read the “Building Team Update” on page 8 of this newsletter for all the details.
SPAGHETTI DINNER WITH HOME-COOKED SAUCE Please join us as we raise money for the Liberian Mission Trip. The dinner is a goodwill donation, and all are welcome. Come for fellowship, food and fabulous company! The proceeds will help fund our mission trip.
When: Saturday, August 11th Time: 5 - 7 p.m. Place: Fellowship Hall
MEN’S FELLOWSHIP DINNER The August Men’s Dinner will be at the home of Bob and Dr. Barb Kuhns east of town near the Geneseo Air Park on Tuesday, August 14th at 6:00P. The Kuhn’s address is 19789 E 1650 Street, Geneseo. We will have a potluck dinner so please bring a dish to share. All men of both Cam-bridge and Geneseo First are invited and welcome to bring a friend or rel-ative. Please email Mark Bunce at [email protected] for any ques-tions or to be added to the email list for Men’s Ministry events.
PIZZA WITH THE PASTOR Have you been wondering what your next step is at First Methodist Church? If so, please be our guest for lunch (pizza of course!) – we’d like to help you get better acquainted with the family of faith at First Methodist. Join us Sunday, August 19th at noon in the church parlor. Please to the church office by August 17th. Childcare available upon request with RSVP.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN The August Sewing Fellowship will be in Fellowship Hall on Monday, Au-gust 20th from 9:00A-2:00P. Plan to join in the fun and fellowship. The Spoon River District Mission Study day will be August 25th from 9:00A-3:00P at Roseville United Methodist Church. The study will be given by Jean and Larry Roberts of New Windsor, who conduct mission trips to Haiti. Come and learn about what is being done in Haiti. The UMW is still accepting fabric for pillowcase dresses and boys shorts.
Some will be taken to Liberia when our group goes this fall. We will have a sewing day on Monday, August 27th to continue sewing Pillowcase Dresses for the girls and Shorts for the boys. We will meet from 9:00A—2:00P. Everyone is welcome to come for the whole time or even for an hour. We have lots of different things that you can do, and you do not need to know how to sew. This is our Sewing Mission to create the clothes for the children in Haiti, Libe-ria and other needy places. We have some examples in the church lob-by. Fabric donations are also wel-come. We have had a couple of good sewing days in July. Come and sew with us or there are directions available at the church if you want to sew some dresses or shorts at home. Contact Jane Kiser, Connie Paris or Jan Corsaro for more infor-mation. The August 28th meeting of the United Methodist Women will be the Annual Birthday Party. The 1:00P meeting will be held in Fellowship Hall. The program will be "Africa" given by Barb and Bob Kuhns. All ladies of the church are invited to attend, and the Cambridge UMW has been invited. Special invitations have been sent to those ladies who will be 80 by the end of the year as well as those ladies who have al-ready reached this milestone. Devo-tions will be given by Marian Rodg-ers. Hostesses will be Carolyn Bussan, Connie Paris, Gwen Grymonprez, and Jan Corsaro.

shoes are still needed for school age children, from pre-school through high school. Towards the beginning of September light jack-ets, long sleeved shirts, and jeans will be in demand. We are also always in need of household items, towels, sheets, and blan-kets. A large number of families and individuals consistently use the items donated by the commu-nity and are much appreciated. Thank you for your continued support. We pray that God will bless you as much as you’ve blessed the Food Pantry. The first day of school is August 15th, but it is not too late to do-nate to our school supply drive. We are still in need of folders, spi-ral bound sketch pads, glue sticks, 1” and 1 ½ “ three ring binders, and dry erase markers. Last year we had a total of 68 children sign up, and we are expecting an even greater number this year. Many gardeners in the area have been bringing in surplus produce. Recipes have accompanied some of the donations, and we encour-age clients to take vegetables home and try new ways to pre-pare them for their families. We would like to thank everyone who takes the time to grow, harvest, and donate their produce. Light-weight clothing and gym
cake syrup, in-stant rice, to-mato sauce, diced toma-toes, and cake mixes Non-food needs are: paper tow-els, body wash, hair conditioner, pain relievers, shaving cream, liq-uid hand soap, and disposable diapers. Please note: Food Pantry Sunday at First Methodist will be on August 12th. You may bring your donations that day and place them in the barrel by the elevator on the main floor, or drop them off in the church office at any time.

one; it includes much more detail
than the master plan overviews
shared thus far. They include
drawings, outline specifications and
other conceptual documents. The-
se documents will illustrate the
project’s basic elements and scale.
Detailed Design Development
and Construction Documents:
Once the schematic design docu-
ments are approved, Russell Con-
struction and BLDD will work on
design development and detailed
construction documents. These
are the near-final blueprints. These
documents are based on the agreed
-upon schematic design documents
and further define phase 1. This
includes detailed drawings and out-
line specifications. They fix and
describe the gathering area, wor-
ship area, and other areas' sizes;
and also incorporate the structural,
architectural, mechanical and elec-
trical systems. Again, First Meth-
odist will approve these docu-
ments.
Bids: Russell Construction will bid
out various parts of the work,
based on the design and construc-
tion documents defined
above. The bids help define
an accurate estimate of the
cost for phase 1.
At the end of the design
phase, Russell Construction
will provide a final cost esti-
Greetings from the Building Team.
We hope you are excited and
ready to start the design for phase
one of our church’s building pro-
gram. We're extremely excited
about this phase and are looking
forward to transitioning into the
detailed design steps. This will
clearly define all aspects of our
phase 1 building project in detail.
Proceeding is first confirmed to-
gether by the church family.
We're writing this letter prior to
the August 6th church conference.
At this meeting, church members
will vote on
the prelimi-
nary phase
one plan.
We're opti-
mistic with
phase one.
If confirmed,
what does moving forward mean
and when will construction begin?
Schedule: Our design-build part-
ner, Russell Construction, will de-
velop a preliminary schedule detail-
ing the activities for design. The
schedule will include activities as-
signed to First Methodist, Russell
Construction and BLDD, our archi-
tect. First Methodist will approve
the milestones within the schedule.
We will also coordinate with Rus-
sell if there are any risks of getting
off track.
Schematic Design: Our design-
build partner will submit schematic
design documents to the Building
Team for acceptance. These docu-
ments are developed jointly by
Russell and the architect. To an
extent, this is a first draft of what
we specifically will build in phase
mate for phase 1 based on the doc-
uments defined above and the bid
responses.
As you can see, a lot of details will
materialize during the design stages.
These designs are important invest-
ments and will occur in carefully
planned steps. The Building Team
is working to make sure we are
good stewards and our partners
create detailed designs for what we
will build – not more, not less.
We anticipate the design phase to
last approximately eight months.
Construc-
tion may
start as ear-
ly as May
2013.
Please re-
member
these mile-
stones are preliminary and that
construction will only begin after a
third all-church conference pro-
vides final approval to proceed.
Finally, prayer is our cornerstone
and through God all things are pos-
sible! Please continue to pray for
God's will to be done.
Thank you for your pledges, pray-
ers and support. Please stay tuned.

tact anyone on the Building Team
