Grassland weed managementPastureMaster is a unique herbicide for the control of perennial and annual broad leaf weeds in newly sown grass leys and established grassland. PastureMaster is formulated as a soluble concentrate and contains 360 g/l 2,4-D + 315 g/l MCPA.

Why use PastureMaster?

• Flexible, robust product that can be used on newly sown grass leys and established grassland.• Approved for use on new leys from 3 leaf stage.• MCPA provides effective control of Thistles and Buttercups.• 2,4-D ‘s main strength is Docks and Ragwort.• The combination of the two actives give very effective control of the key grassland weeds.• A highly cost effective treatment which can be used to control perennial and annual broad leaved weeds and as part of a Ragwort eradication programme.• No worries about chemical residues or contamination of manure.

Best Use - Timing and optimum conditions

Apply in a period of active growth before the grass reaches 25 cm high in the spring or up to 25 cm after cutting. In dense crops use a higher volume of water. Weeds yellowing, under stress or damaged will be less well controlled. Avoid grassland under stress especially drought, water logging, disease or insect attack. Topping Soft Rush in late spring prior to seed formation weakens the plant, which then has to regrow. If the regrowth is treated when the Soft Rush is about 15 cm tall better control will be achieved. Good field drainage and management of acidity will also help eradicate this weed.

Other common grassland weedsPastureMaster will control many different weeds depending on age and size. Some key information on application and a guide to susceptibility is in the table below.

√ √ √ Susceptible, √ √ Acceptable control can be achieved in ideal conditions, some regrowth may occur. Seedlings usually controlled. √ Some suppression of weeds. (√) is a half mark.

The table above does not constitute a recommendation by Nufarm but is an indication of the level of control that might be obtained. Ratings are from Nufarm experience and trials throughout Europe. Different species of weed are controlled at different optimum size and timings.

Weed Weed Size For Best Control

Soft Rush

Treat in April to June. Stems should be cut and removed either four weeks before or after treatment. Topping Soft Rush in late Spring

prior to seed formation weakens the plant, which then has to regrow. If the regrowth is treated when the plant is 15cm tall,

better control will be achieved.

Ragwort

Always apply in good growing conditions. It is often better to treat young Ragwort in September before being frost hardened. This should be followed by a sequential application in the spring at

rosette stage, before flower spikes start to grow.

Chickweed Chickweed can often be a problem in new leys. PastureMaster has a broad spectrum but the addition of fluroxypyr will control Chickweed.
