Patchwork Post
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
We have a lot to be thankful for, Nancy Ota for starters. What a nice workshop
at the new Bits and Pieces quilt store and a wonderful trunk show presentation at
our Monday night guild meeting. Secondly I am thankful for all the attendees. It
was wonderful to see so many of you come to our workshop and meeting.
I’m also thankful for the cooler weather. It makes it feel more like the holidays.
Now it’s time to get the turkey defrosted and start making all the fixings and then
we are off and running for the holidays. Of course there are gifts to be made and
cookies to be baked. Oh how I love this time of the year with all the hustle and
bustle, setting up the tree and lights, decorating and baking and of course being
with family and friends. Speaking of friends, we will gather again Dec. 10 for our
December meeting which will be a lot of fun. It is our annual Holiday Potluck
and craft table sale. If any of you talented ladies out there would like to sell your
handmade goodies please contact Teri Wetter or Susan Axelrod for reserving a
table ($10 donation).
Here is one more thing to be thankful for, as I mentioned at the meeting, we want
to remember to bring in those “Box Tops” in appreciation of the wonderful job
that Deb Tait and her 3rd graders do every month of setting up our chairs for our
guild meeting. Thank you!

Thanks to all our our members and guests who were brave
enough to "SHOP IN THE DARK" at our November
meeting. We earned $69.00 which will go directly toward
new books. If you have any ideas about which books we
should add to our library - please call or e-mail Yvonne or
Holly.
We received enough book donations to have a December
sale - look for some great bargains outside the door at our
next meeting.
We will not be bringing the library books to the December
Potluck meeting. We will be happy to collect any books
you want to return - even though they are not due until
January 14, 2013. We would also be very happy to bring
any special request books that you may want. Just call or
e-mail Yvonne or Holly with the title of any book you
need.
If you are thinking about getting rid of any of your
personal quilt books - please consider giving them to us to
add to our guild library OR to sell to raise additional $$
for new books. Just bring your donations to the meeting
or call us & we will pick them up from your home.
Reminder: ALWAYS send your Library e-mails to
Yvonne or Holly at our personal addresses:

A huge thanks to all of you for the Christmas stockings. You may still turn them in at the December meeting. So
far Philanthropy has received about 40 Christmas stockings that will go to Rady Children's Hospital and to St.
Claire's Home.
Donations this month of wheel chair bags, placemats and quilts will go to Veterans Hospital, Meals on Wheels and
Rady Children's Hospital.
The next Cutting Up Party will be in January. As mentioned at the guild meeting, I have a schedule conflict and
with the holiday season upon us, I've decided to wait until January. It will be the first Saturday, January 5th,
from 9:00 to 11:00, as usual.
The Sew-a-Thon location is still being worked out. Look for an announcement in December. Be sure to check your
email for any announcements about the Sew-a-Thon.

Opportunity Quilt
This is our major fundraiser for the year(s). It
works best if EACH member sells tickets (or buys
them). We will continue to distribute ticket pack-
ets. You DO NOT have to pay when you pick
them up, but they must be paid to be entered in
the drawing.
Since this is the December newsletter, let me say
once again: Stocking Stuffers!! We won't draw
until June, but the red of the tickets is in keeping
with the season.
Let's get those tickets out, ladies and gentlemen!!
It helps pay for the fine programs we continue to
have!

CRACKER ROCA
1 cup butter (I use a little less than a cup)
¾ cup brown sugar (not packed)
1 tsp. almond extract
Saltine crackers to fill a baking sheet (I use 15 x 11 baking sheet)
1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 ½ cups toasted almonds
Preheat the oven to 400°. Toast the almonds for about 4 minutes while preheating the oven. Line the baking
sheet with parchment paper or foil. Put one layer of crackers on the sheet. Microwave the butter and sugar to-
gether for 2 minutes. Add the almond extract and whisk until combined. Pour the mixture over the crackers and
spread evenly. Bake for 7 minutes. Take the sheet out of the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot
crackers. While the chips are melting, spread them evenly. Sprinkle the almonds over the chocolate layer. I use
a sheet of waxed paper to press the nuts down into the chocolate layer so they will stick better. Let the baking
sheet cool down before putting it in the freezer for about 20 minutes until the crackers harden. Break them into
serving pieces. Enjoy!
You can use the same procedure for crackers with White chocolate chips and cranberries. Use regular sugar in-
stead of brown, white chocolate (I use Nestle white morsels) instead of semi-sweet, and skinless toasted almonds
instead of almonds with skin. I use about a cup of cranberries.
