Our speaker will be Cindy Parry. Cindy is a quilt artist and hasmade a

series of quilts based on the Japanese tsunami from a few years

ago. Her story and quilts are quite moving. This program has been presented at JCCc.

In April, Kim Melton will be presenting "Jo's Little Women."

Kimberly Arthur-Melton - I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and attended Iowa State University where I received aBachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Art with my emphasis in textiles.

My first sewing adventure was a wool crewel work bell pull on linen that my sister gave me when I was 11. Itaught myself all of the stitches and completed the piece. It hangs in my mothers' home today. I started quiltingin high school working with the church sewing group in the summer. In college I designed and screen printedblocks and set them into a quilt for one of my art classes. My first quilting class was a Georgia Bonesteel stylequilting class, "quilt as you go" (never finished) - and Yes! All of this was before the rotary cutter!

Along the way I designed, pieced and embroidered a quilt for my church centennial and later I was commissionedto create a pieced and appliqued quilt by the Iowa Department of Agriculture for the Iowa State Fair.

Coming to Kansas City, I joined the Harper's Fabrics staff, wearing many hats over the years, most recently as ser­vice technician for the Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff sewing machines.

Which brings me to Jo's Little Women Club. I have been involved with it since 2006, first contributing, then as a co-leader and more recently, leader. Working with the small scale has improved my skills and even very complicat­ed blocks are less intimidating.

Besides sewing and quilting I enjoy collecting glass paperweights, (I have close to 100),history, travel and time with family and of course my quilting friends.

Nancy Giltner will be presenting a trunk show••••-------------- ••••• entitled "My Stars" and will teach a workshopusing one of Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Design rulers. She is a certified instructor with Studio180 Designs and will be showing us quilts that have been made with Deb Tucker's rulers and

Nineteen members were guided through the steps of making a "Bali Bag" Thursday, December 14th by Julie Rounds.This group has promised a wonderful parade of bags at the February general meeting. We're all anxious to see thevariety of fabrics and how they appear in their finished rope bag.

Thirty members have signed up for the "Two Fabric Bargello"wallhanging to be taught in January in two different workshops to beled by Mary Strege. Most fabrics are now available at Quilters

Headquarters, College & Antioch. There's no prep work for these workshops, but make sure you have thesupply list and that you have all the sewing supplies.

The February 8th & 22nd workshops will be spent in "payingit forward" to Rose Estates. This year we will be constructing fidget lap

quilts for some of the residents. Lauren Bond is leading these workshops.We are in need of any size buckles and soft shoe strings. We'll be doingsignups at the February meeting just so we can do some pre-planning.

For the pay-it-forward sit & stitch meetings (February), we are making fidget quilts for seniors with dementia.

A fidget quilt is a small quilt that has various objects sewn to it that can be touched and manipulated. We like there tobe some familiar things from the sewing world, such zippers, buckles, textured fabric, buttons, etc.

To see examples, check out this blog post from Patchwork Posse or search for fidget quilts on Pinterest.

We have most of the supplies we need, but we could use these extra items. Please bring donated items to the sit &stitch table at the January meeting: Buckles of various kinds (like for overalls, simple belt buckle, fashion buckles.)

Shoelaces (soft laces preferred, like used in sneakers and tennis shoes)cute or pretty purchased appliques (iron on or sew on)

This will be a fun project to practice sewing skills we don't typically use when quilting!

My mind is filled with possible workshops so stay tuned for the months ahead. And PLEASE let me know if youhave a request for a repeat workshop OR a brand new workshop for a pattern or technique. Here's a reminder:

The UFOprogram got off to a great start last meeting when eleven different people showed 18 UFOs!Asyour leader, I love to mark off the quilts each month. So much accomplished. Now if I could just get tosome of my UFOs!Doesn't it feel great to get those quilts/bags/etc. done? I know it does. Keep up thegood work! New Member Welcome' The followingladies joined BVQG in November, 2017.Seek them out ...they are enthusiastic andbring many skills and talents to our Guild.

Recently retired, Julie Anderson was on an outing with some former co-workersand discovered one was a quiIter who had recently joined BVQG. That wasGlenda Hartl who promptly invited Julie to become a member...so she did inNovember,2017. Julie has always loved to sew. About five or six years agoshe took classes at local quilt shops to try her hand at quilting. Julieenthusiastically stated that she LOVES fabric; its colors and textures. To seethe outcome of how various fabrics work together is why she loves piecing.Machine applique and embroidery are in her repertoire, too. One of the firstthings Julie did after retiring was sort and organize her quilting fabrics,gadgets, patterns and all that good stuff. Being organized is her key toproductivity. The Guild has already benefitted from her membership as shehas already pieced & returned one of our charity quilts.

Vicky DeLaughder has quilted for nearly forty years. She recently retired as aRegistered Nurse and is looking forward to devoting more time to quilting. Shepieces by machine and quilts by hand. She commented that she "quilts for love"and quilting enables her to give a gift that will outlast her. True to thatsentiment, Vicky has made a quilt for each of her children and all ninegrandchildren, plus a few for other special people in her life. She likestraditional designs such as log cabin and disappearing nine patch. Jewel tonesand batiks are especially appealing to her. While hand quilting is Vicky'spreference, she doeswant to learn to machinequilt for makingcharity quilts.

McElhenny discovered BVQG at the 2nd Annual KansasCowboy Jubilee in lateer at JCCCwhere she serves as an usher for various events. Ann noticed

Guild's outreach table where she met Nancy Taylor who invited her to visitId. When Ann retired about a year ago, her goal for the first year was to T •••,n,ID

a month. She met that goal with some long trips and some short trips so shehas time to delve into quilting. Ann quilted some when she was a youngsterIs sleeping under quilts at both grandmothers' houses. She leans towarditional designs but stated she has been taken with the modern designs. She is·ally interested in Sit & Stitch activities. For nearly 30 years, Ann has beenIy involved in The Heartland Winter Gamesof Special Olympics, even serving

r for three years. Currently she is in charge of the ice skating program anddance party coming up soon.

CinnamonRoll Pull-apart Bread

1unsliced round loaf sourdough bread

1/2 cup butter, softened114 cup powdered sugar114 cup honey1tsp pure vanilla extract

1cup sugar1114 tsp cinnamon

1cup powdered sugar1-2 Tbsp milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

To make Vanilla Honey Butter: Whip butter and 114 cup powdered sugar together until smooth; stirin honey and vanilla. Set aside. (You can use regular butter if desired)

Cut the bread lengthwise into 112" slices, without cutting through the bottom crust. Spread vanillahoney butter in between slices. Rotate the bread 90 degrees and slice the bread again into 112"pieces, without cutting through the bottom crust. Spread more vanilla honey butter in between newcuts. This doesn't need to be perfect - just make sure there is lots of butter in between all thecuts. Combinesugar and cinnamon.Generously sprinkle in between all cuts. (You may have extra but­ter and cinnamonsugar. It will just depend on how large your bread loaf is.)

Wrap in foil; place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, until bread iswarm. Unwrap cinnamonbread and place on serving platter. Combinepowdered sugar and milk -adding milk until you get the consistency desired. Drizzle icing over bread and serve immediately.
