King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAAUH) is a brand new 300-bed teaching hospital, located in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, which specialises in women and adolescent health, and child growth and development. The government of Saudi Arabia has set out plans to build 19 new university hospitals in just five years and KAAUH was the first of these to launch.

The new procurement team sought CIPS Corporate Certification to help gain greater control over spending, improve systems, manage rising costs, and implement effective supplier management. They also aim to set an example for the other new hospitals being built in Saudi Arabia, and eventually to become one of the world’s leading healthcare organisations.

Having achieved the Standard award, the organisation is now working with CIPS to increase the expertise of the supply chain team and to develop their career paths.

Globally recognised, CIPS Corporate Certification is the only independent, comprehensive procurement-specific assessment of its kind. Examining your organisation's procurement and supplier management procedures in targeted detail, it highlights where improvements and efficiencies can be made, ensuring that procurement becomes an essential value driver and organisational influencer.

In addition, the hospital is planning to launch centres of excellence in women's health, adolescent health, and child growth and development.
