At Truman Medical Centers (TMC) we focus on being a state-of-the-art, quality net hospital system that provides top quality care
to all who need it. TMC has a diverse workforce that reflects our equally diverse patient population. But we do not define diversity solely in terms of ethnicity or gender.
A community is made up of more than just ethnic groups. Our patients and the people who provide them the best care available everyday come from differing backgrounds, each with rich experiences and abilities. These are the people who TMC wants onboard as we expand our staff — people of different ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, education and skill levels because diversity of caregivers makes for better care and better patient relations.
This booklet outlines the patient, employee and governance board base and highlights how truly diverse each group is. You may also come across a few areas that may contradict preconceived notions some may have about TMC’s patient makeup, for example that TMC patients don’t have healthcare coverage. (The majority do.)
As you will also see in the following pages, TMC is “talking the talk and walking the walk” when it comes to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce to provide the best, most effective care possible to our patients. More than 60 percent of our staff live within the community they serve, Jackson County, Missouri. It’s clear that TMC and its dedicated, hard working staff are an invaluable asset to Kansas City.
We hope this profile will help you understand how our dual commitments — to serving a diverse patient population and to employing a diverse workforce — make TMC a place where insured patients want to come and where underserved populations can come — all while being a choice employer for choice employees.
John W. Bluford III, President and CEO
