In addition to this our nurses can give practical guidance and information on various support groups. Please note that you can book an appointment with a nurse 6-8 weeks in advance. Spirometry – 40 mins. This is a breathing test we offer to patients with respiratory problems. We will invite patients to make an appointment if we think they would benefit from this test. Suture removal The nurse will remove all stitches and staples. The time for each ap- pointment depends on the size of the wound. Travel health – 10 to 20 min. Give your travel details to recep- tion. A nurse will check your records and advise on the vaccinations you need. We will contact you to of- fer an appointment where you can discuss all aspects of travel health, including malaria protection. Allow at least 6-8 weeks before your de- parture date. Vaccinations & injections – 10 min. e.g. Tetanus, influenza, Hepatitis B, B12. Weight control We offer advice on all aspects of diet and ex- ercise to help you lose weight or lower your blood cholesterol level. At first we will offer you a 20 min. appointment so that we can take details of your problem. All follow-up appointments will be 10 mins. Asthma checks – 20 min.This can be by GP or self-referral. We will take a detailed history. We aim to educate you on your treatment and self-management. We will closely monitor your inhaler tech-nique.

Baby immunisations We start routine immunisations

at 8 weeks. Please note we cannot vaccinate under 8 weeks old.

Blood pressure – 10 min.We are able to do routine BP checks and follow-up appointments for patients taking medication for high blood pressure.

Cervical smears – 10 min.All cervical smears will be performed by the practice nurse. The appointment will include blood pressure check and repeat contracep-tive prescription if required.

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) – 20 min.We offer annual check ups for patients with coronary heart disease. If appropriate, your GP will send you an invitation by letter. The Nurse will arrange follow-up appointments.

Our team of practice nurses offer the following services:

Diabetes – 30 mins.If your diabetes is being treated just by your GP we will invite you to see a Nurse every six months to review progress.

Dressings/wound care – times vary.The nurse can treat minor trauma, leg ulcers and post-operative wounds.

Ear syringing – 20 mins. for one or two.You will need to see your GP prior to booking your nurse’s appointment. In the lead up to your nurse’s appointment use almond or olive oil twice daily for 5-7 days before your visit to soften the wax. Do not put cotton wool in your ears as this will soak up the oil.

ECG – 20 min.We perform ECG’s only after referral from your GP.

Family planning – 10 to 20 min.We hold a Coil Clinic once a week. Nurses offer repeat check ups for those patients already prescribed the contra-ceptive pill by their GP. They can also organise a repeat prescription. Anyone wishing to start on oral contraception will need to see their GP first.

Flu clinicsWe give influenza vaccinations during October/November. Ask reception for details.

Smoking cessation – 20 min.A Smoking Advisor from the Stop Smok-ing Service can give advice to help you quit.
