As a university hospital, we represent a combinationof medical treatment, research, science and educa-
tion and are part of the medical faculty of Hamburg
University. This combination is very successful becau-
se latest results of medical research and science go –
after a substantial process of proof – directly into the
clinical work of our doctors.
The cornerstone of our philosophy is the continuous
development and improvement of diagnostic methods
and procedures in disease management in the areas
of oncology, transplantation, heart diseases, systemic
diseases of childhood, urology, and many other elds.
The UKE’s medical treatment, science and research
have an excellent international reputation. As a result,
patients from Germany and from countries all over
the world have been coming to us for many years. Our patients can be sure of receiving state-of-the-art
treatment by highly-trained and empathetic doctors
and nurses, taking into account the latest knowledge
and developments in medicine.
We are the rst university medical center in Germa-
ny to be certied in its entirety according to DIN EN
ISO 9001 by Germanischer Lloyd Certication GmbH.
We can assure our patients, employees and partners
that the different quality requirements are well esta-
blished and maintained throughout all areas of the
UKE.

International Ofce
The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf has
a long tradition in treating international patients. For many
years, guests from all over the world have been coming tous for medical treatment.
We realize that international patients have special needs
and require special attention for their treatments outside
their country of origin. When an international patient decides
to come to the UKE for treatment, his or her expectations
are very high. The decision shows great trust into medical
progress in Germany, into the UKE-specialists and - last but
not least - into the service we deliver. For this reason, the
UKE has created the International Ofce as point of contact
for foreign patients. We deal with all administrative and orga-
nizational matters regarding your stay at the UKE. We ensu-
re consistent administrative support from the rst telephone
call onwards up to your return into your home country. The
International Ofce accompanies you through the entire
duration and offers a wide range of services to ensure that
your stay is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Hamburg & surroundings
Hamburg, known as the gateway to the world, is the
most vibrant city in Germany: There are many good
reasons why our lush, green city situated on the river
Elbe and between the Northern and the Baltic Sea is
known as one of Germany’s most enchanting cities.
Everybody who has visited Hamburg enthuses about
its air and maritime charm. Whether Elbe, Alster,
Hafen City (Port City), Speicherstadt (Warehouse
City) or the weekly Fish Market – every day brings
something new to be discovered, experienced and
marvelled at. With 1.8 million inhabitants, Hamburg is
the second-largest city in Germany, offering its visi-
tors a wide range of activities in a very safe environ-
ment: the best of ne arts and culture, a great variety
of hotels, excellent restaurants, high-end shopping,
an exciting night-life and many landmarks of historical
interest that depict the city’s 1,200 year old history.
Not only Hamburg is always worth a trip – the
surrounding area also has much to offer. Cities worth
seeing such as Lübeck and Lüneburg alternate with
long beaches on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea,
many enchanting islands such as Amrum and Sylt,
and large fruit orchards which inspire idyllic walks,
especially during blooming time and harvest. Bet-
ween the Flensburg Fjord and the Weser, between
the island of Usedom and the Wadden Sea National
Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will nd
one of the most diverse landscapes in Europe – there
is much to discover.
Easy to reach
Hamburg is located in the heart of Europe. In only 90
minutes on a train you can reach Berlin; a one hour
ight will take you to London, Prague, Brussels, or
Paris. With hundreds of daily ights, Hamburg is ea-
sily accessible from anywhere in the world. From the
airport it is only a 15 minute taxiride to the hospital.

tourism.de.
