Curriculum for the purpose of student orientation has become an essential tool for increasing student retention rates at institutions of higher education (Hendel, 2007; National Research Council Publications, 2009). While the objectives of curricula have been documented, not much is known about how curriculum objectives unfold in classrooms and are experienced by the students being served. Results revealed how an instructor and students interpreted, negotiated, and produced a local version of an enacted course curriculum. HIGHER EDUCATION LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION EXPERIENCE o Over 15 years of experience in higher education leadership and senior level administration including strategic planning, budgeting, innovation, operations, grant and contract pre- and post- award administration, and staff management o Within a span of20 years, successfully taught classes in different physical locations and using varying formats o Skills in measuring outcomes and assessing student learning o Development of policies and procedures pertaining to various university operations o Service on university executive level committees o Development, articulation, and implementation of shared organizational values o Excellent understanding of accounting principles, fmancial analysis, and university policies and procedures o Supervisory skills necessary for analyzing, organizing and directing activities, developing and implementing new strategies and procedures, and resolving problems o Experience in employee development and the fostering of a cooperative work environment. o Understanding, interpreting, and implementing state and federal compliance requirements for institutions of higher education COMMITTEE INVOLVEMENT o NMSU Employee Council -The Employee Council investigates matters involving the policies and procedures of the administration of the university and makes recommendations based on such investigations to the president of the university. o NMSU Building the Vision -This committee was tasked by NMSU's President with creating a strategic plan by which the Las Cruces campus of New Mexico State University could fulfill its academic mission, vision, and core values. o NMSU Budget Committee - The University Budget Committee (UBC) is advisory to the president. The committee participates in budget hearings and recommends general funding priorities for the consideration of the president.
