Patrician Park 2011 Yearling Sale Draft

We welcome your inspection of any of our yearlings.Cover: This is a picture of a very good horse we bred - Ghadasbest 1:55.9 - $156,975. Unfortunately Ghadasbest had to be euthanised earlier this year after sustaining a serious injury while racing. We offer our condolences to the connections of Ghadasbest and thank him for the memories.

Gloucester Standardbreds Perth Yearling Sale - 6th March

Lot 6 Grinfromeartoear - Kelty Star coltHere is a big, strong, handsome boy that has his dad’s looks painted all over him.

Kelty Star just keeps producing early commers with her current 2yo Kelty Star Magic running third on debut on the 1st of February. There is every likelihood this colt will fi t the mould as he is light on his feet, despite his size.

Now Grinfromeartoear has had monstrous success when bred over Jate Lobell blood (note Kelty Star is a grand daughter of Jate Lobell) producing the champion Mr Big 1:47.4 and Mr Feelgood 1:49 plus the Aussie bred star youngsters Rocknrolla 1:57.1 - $286,225, OGrady 1:58 and Scot Bay 1:58.6.

Early in the sale - Lot 6 - don’t be late.

Lot 10 Lis Mara - Margareta Ville coltHere is a colt with so much to like about him - size, strength, a kind nature and willing worker. He is also the fi rst and only non grey from Margareta Ville.

Now you have seen the speed displayed by the fi rst two foals from Margareta Ville and this guy is by one of the fastest horses to have raced in North America this century - Lis Mara 1:47.6. Make sure you have a look at a Lis Mara DVD - you’ll see what we mean, just blinding speed with a fl awless gait.

You should also know the athleticism of this family - they are born to race, eg Professional Lass, 12 foals all raced, including Margareta Ville who showed tons of ability before breaking a pedal bone in her one and only race start.

Gloucester Standardbreds Perth Yearling Sale - 6th March

Lot 50 American Ideal - Graceland coltThis is the third colt from Graceland with the fi rst two having won over $200,000 now.

He is similar to those two, big, long and strong, but by a sire, American Ideal, who had more sheer speed than Village Jasper or Crouch.

American Ideal was a World Record holder at three winning the Bluegrass Stakes in 1:47.8 and the Confederation Cup in 1:50.4 on a half mile track. if you want to see a display again of sheer speed just watch his win in the Confederation Cup.

Another reason we were so confi dent in breeding to American Ideal is because he is from a daughter of one of the greatest ever juvenile fi llies Three Diamonds.

Lot 145 Ponder - Crystal Journey coltCrystal Journey is not big in stature but she did win $113,185 the hard way.

Ponder - Crystal Journey coltCrystal Journey is not big in stature but she did win $113,185 the hard way.

Ponder - Crystal Journey colt

This is one reason why we purchased her in 2008, but the other was that her trainer, the incomparable Percy Johnson, loved her for her honesty and her ability to put in week after week. Now thats a most admirable trait and you know what? The trainer of Ponder, the great Bob McIntosh, told us that this was Ponder’s greatest asset. Ponder also owns another impressive asset - the World Record on a 1/2 mile track of 1:49.

So what does this tell us about Lot 145? He will want to run and compete - we can almost guarantee it! We can’t remember a yearling we’ve prepared who loves his work as much. Save your money for this guy - he is impressive.

Gloucester Standardbreds Perth Yearling Sale - 6th March

Lot 153 Northern Luck - Ebony Eye coltThis will be one of the all time great stories if this colt can win a Derby or Cup and let’s

Northern Luck - Ebony Eye coltThis will be one of the all time great stories if this colt can win a Derby or Cup and let’s

Northern Luck - Ebony Eye colthope he does.

The reason you may ask - well he was born 40 days premature and you can ask any expert in the breeding business and they will tell you that for a foal to survive being born this early it has got to be one hell of a fi ghter.

Survive he has and although not tall (like his mum), he stands over a lot of ground and moves around the paddock like a gazelle.

Ebony Eye, who won her only race start in 1:59.4, was then retired because she only has one eye (hence her name), but has produced a perfect record as a broodmare.

Australasian Classic Sale Auckland - 19th February

Lot 178:Bettors Delight - Suri FillyDoes she look like a Bettors Delight? Does she look like a Christian Cullen? Does it

Bettors Delight - Suri FillyDoes she look like a Bettors Delight? Does she look like a Christian Cullen? Does it

Bettors Delight - Suri Fillymatter? She is a stunner, wouldn’t you agree?

Now have a look at the catalogue page and you will see that Suri is a daughter of the NZ Pacing Mare of the Year Coburg 1:56.8 - $201,310 and the freakish sire Christian Cullen.

Suri’s 2yo full sister, Veste, has big wraps on her in the barn of Mark Purdon.

Coburg is a half sister to the Hunter Cup winner Stunin Cullen 1:54.1, whilst her dam is a half sister to another champion pacer in Il Vicolo.

Then there is the Bettors Delight fi lly factor - unbelievable to date. What more can we say?

APG Sydney Sale - Sunday 27th February

Lot 409 Courage Under Fire - Queen Matilda coltThis colt was born and reared at Alabar’s Victorian farm and has always been in the top 4 or 5 colts on the place.

Needless to say he is an impressive type, strong and with a lovely nature.

Of course everyone remembers Courage Under Fire - a horse ahead of his time and he is now a leading sire on both sides of the Tasman, siring colts such as Lannercost, Sleepy Tripp, Courage To Rule, Talk To Me Courage, Pembrook Benny and many, many more.

This colt’s grand dam Boom Boom Baby, produced 6 colts for 6 winners, 5 in 2:00 but if to criticise that record one could say those horses lacked high speed - hence the infusion of Courage Under Fire and In The Pocket blood into the mix.

Lot 411 Grinfromeartoear - Ransom Robust coltThis colt is an attractive, racy type - perhaps not your typical Grin, but more like the look of Mr Feelgood.

His half brother last year made it into the fi nal six of the judging at Sydney and not surprisingly he has now qualifi ed under the name of Jogalong Ed.

Grinfromeartoear is now fi rmly established as a leading sire in Australia siring not only fast juveniles, but quality Cup class horses such as Mr Feelgood, Smiling Shard and Make Me Smile.

The family has made a habit over the years of producing smart 2 & 3yos such as Military, Shelly Lee, Hilarion Star, Lombo Laredo and Flashing Star.

Maybe Lot 411 will be another.

Unfortunately last year we lost our good friend Professional Lass.

At the age of 31, time caught up with “Mandy” and her health deteriorated to the point we had to have her euthanised.

The dam of 9 winners, Mandy is the grandmother and great grandmother of many more.

It was a sad day when we had to make the call, however she had a good life and all good things have to come to an end eventually.
