CASCADES: A FESTIVAL OF FLOWERS

Thousands of flowers will be used to create a stunning display of contemporary and traditional floral designs that will cascade through the Cathedral. The building’s wonderful architecture, its vast spaces and detailed craftsmanship provide not only a unique and striking backdrop but also the source of inspiration for the Floral Design team. To complement the event, a summer market with hand-picked exhibitors will be held in a beautiful marquee in the Cathedral’s historic Inner Close.

Hans Haverkamp, Artistic Director, leads the creative team on behalf of The Wessex and Jersey Area of NAFAS. Hans is supported by expert floral designers Bill Dixon and Pauline Hurran.

PREVIEW EVENING - TUE 23 JUNE AT 6.15pmAn exclusive viewing of the flower festival with a champagne and canapé reception. Guests are invited to join us for Choral Evensong, sung by the Cathedral Choir, at 5.30pm. This will be followed by the opportunity to explore the exhibits and meet the Design Team.

CHORAL CASCADES - SAT 27 JUNE AT 8.30PMEnjoy a glass of fizz surrounded by the magnificence of the Flower Festival and listen to the Winchester Cathedral Chamber Choir perform music with a floral theme.

All the profits made from the Flower Festival will help support the cleaning and presentation of both the Great Screen and the Quire and to help maintain almost 1,000 years of history for future generations. The Great Screen was constructed during the time of Bishop William Waynflete and is believed to have been built in the 1470’s.
