Skills needed include: making & applying patch pockets;

OPTIONAL (making &) applying bias binding

Unless otherwise stated, all seams are sewn

right sides together.

ABOUT THIS STYLE

This is a rectangular organizer with multiple pockets

and a classic box-style construction.

Don't make a muslin for this (as if you would!) but we

do recommend that you roughly pin all your fabric pieces

together, before you start sewing, just so you understand

the method of construction.

SUGGESTED FABRIC CUTTING

LAYOUT FOR THE ORGANIZER

lay fabric out flat for this layout

*PLEASE NOTE* we've suggested this layout with the pattern

pieces placed next to each other because it's much easier to

cut pieces with straight lines this way, plus you get a better result.

IF YOU WANT TO

BIND YOUR POCKET EDGES...

...here's how: before you start to assemble

the purse organizer, sew a strip of bias binding along

the top edge of each pocket piece, like this:

...now fold the remaining edge of the bias strip over the

raw edge, wrapping the cut edge of the pocket.

Topstitch into place on the reverse; press flat and you're

ready assemble from step 1a.

*PLEASE NOTE* we're usually all "do whatever works for you"

when it comes to instructions. Not this time!

Follow these directions EXACTLY and you'll have success;

ignore them, and it will all go horribly wrong, so please, just do it!

1b

Let's start by preparing one of the outer pieces, the one with the

big pocket and the pen-holder pockets.

Lay one of the outer exterior pocket pieces onto one of the

middle exterior pocket pieces, and baste the two together...

...you'll have the WRONG side of the outer exterior pocket

laying on top of the RIGHT side of the middle exterior

pocket; it should look like this...

Following the stitchlines marked on the pattern, sew through both

thicknesses from the bottom to the top of the outer exterior pocket.

Looks like this...

FABRIC & NOTIONS REQUIRED

All you need is 1/2 yard/ 46 cm of 60"/150cm wide fabric

that won't fray-suede, leather or felted fabrics.

If you want to use a 'standard' or woven fabric

(that's one that frays) you'll want to bind the pocket edges,

so add about 3 yards or 275cm of made or purchased

bias binding. That's it. Oh yes, some thread too!

SEAM ALLOWANCES & OTHER INFO

Seam allowances on this style are 3/8" or 1cm; the top

edges of the organizer are designed to be left unfinished,

but if you are using a woven or knit fabric, you can finish

the top edges with self or contast bias binding.

1cFor this side of the purse organizer, baste one of the front/back

pieces to the pocket assembly with the WRONG side of the

pocket assembly to RIGHT side of the front/back piece.

Right sides of the interior pocket together, and with the side/bottom

strips tucked out of the way, sew through all 4 thicknesses,

all the way around the center seam of the interior pocket.

Press the seams open, clip the corners and turn out:.

Baste one of the side/bottom strips to one of the interior pocket

pieces (yes, the ones that are the same size as the front & back pieces)

Repeat this with the remaining side/bottom strip & interior pocket piece.

4aTime to finish this beauty...join the outer edges of one

of the back/front pieces to the free edge of one of the

side/bottom strips.

Press the seam allowances open, clip the corners,

and turn out. Phew! Almost done.

Repeat this with the remaining front/back piece, on the

last free edge of the side/bottom strip.

D*O*N*E* done!

Now you've made one, making more will be easy-peasy.

And once you've used your purse organizer, you'll be

making these for all your girl friends & family...as a cool birthday gift,

Holiday gifts, for Mother's Day, Teacher Appreciation Day, or just because!

Now we'll prepare the remaining outer piece, this one has two

layers of pockets stitched through the middle to give 4 pockets in total.

All you have to do here is repeat step 1a with the remaining

outer & middle pocket pieces.

For this side of the purse organizer, baste the back (or front!)

to the pocket assembly with the WRONG side of the

pocket assembly to RIGHT side of the front/back piece.

Following the stitchlines marked on the pattern, sew through all 3

thicknesses from the bottom to the top of the middle exterior pocket.

Looks like this...
