Tuesday’s Market Action Close 40.92 +.22 Volume 5,805,900/shrs

There is DOJI on March 16, and one Gap open up on March 6 at 39.00/39.10, the near term resistance is 41.60, support at 40.54, and the 50 day (EMA) exponential moving average is 39.34.

This is American Express Company (AXP): The Company is one of the world's largest travel agencies, but it is better known for its charge cards and revolving credit cards. And yes, the company still issues traveler's checks and publishes such magazines as Food & Wine and Travel & Leisure through its American Express Publishing unit. Its travel agency operations have more than 2,200 locations worldwide and its Travelers Cheque Group is the world's largest issuer of traveler's checks (it also issues gift cards). But the company's charge and credit cards are its bread and butter; American Express has more than 92 million cards in circulation worldwide.

Competitive Landscape

Demand is driven by consumer income and demographics. The profitability of individual companies depends on the correct assessment of repayment likelihood and effective collections activities. Large companies have an advantage in using computers to serve large portfolios of mortgage and credit card loans, and also have access to cheaper sources of funds, but small companies can compete effectively in the cash lending or sales finance segments, where personal contact is more important.

Consumer Finance Industry Forecast

The output of US credit cards and finance companies, which includes consumer finance, is forecast to grow at an annual compounded rate of 1% between 2008 and 2013. Data Sourced: December 2009

There is a DOJI on March 15, and one Gap open up on March 5 at 163.85/165.00, the near term resistance is 177.67, support at 173.50, and the 50 day (EMA) exponential moving average is 163.39.

This is Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS): A global leader in mergers and acquisitions advice and securities underwriting, Goldman offers a gamut of investment banking and asset management services to corporate and government clients as well as institutional and individual investors. In September 2008 the Federal Reserve mandated that Goldman Sachs become a bank holding company, along with fellow investment bank Morgan Stanley.

The Competitive Landscape

Demand is driven by economic activity that results in company mergers, acquisitions, or public financing. The profitability of an investment bank depends on its ability to accurately assess both the value of a business transaction and the readiness of the market to buy the attendant debt or equity. Big firms have an advantage because large customer transactions require firms with substantial financial resources. Small investment banks can compete by participating in syndications and operating in regional markets or specialized industries. Although labor-intensive, the industry produces very high value: average annual revenue per employee at large firms is close to US$1MM.

Investment Banking Industry Forecast

The output of US securities, commodity contracts, and investments, an indicator for investment banking, is forecast to grow at an annual compounded rate of 4.1% between 2008 and 2013.

There is a DOJI on March 15 and no Gaps open up or down on the chart, the near term resistance is NIL, support at 21.48, and the 50 day (EMA) exponential moving average is 20.54.

This is Intel Corporation (INTC): Intel is #1 in semiconductors. The company holds the lion’s share in the market for microprocessors that go into desktop and notebook computers, and also into computer servers. For a time rival AMD took some of Intel’s market share, but Intel fought back with faster processors and advanced manufacturing technology and ate AMD. Intel makes embedded semiconductors for the industrial equipment and networking gear markets. Most computer makers use Intel processors; PC giants Dell (18% of sales) and Hewlett-Packard (17%) are the company’s largest customers. The Asia/Pacific region generates more than half of Intel’s revenues.

Competitive Landscape

The industry depends highly on demand from the computer industry and makers of telecommunications products, which can vary sharply from year to year. Companies can be successful producing standard parts at low cost or by producing highly specialized components. Small companies can compete effectively with large ones by producing specialized products or developing new applications. Technological expertise is extremely important. The industry is highly automated: average annual revenue per employee is about US$250,000.

Replete with gondoliers and a replica of the Rialto Bridge, the Venetian offers a 120,000-sq.-ft. casino and a 4,000-suite hotel, as well as a shopping, dining, and entertainment complex. Las Vegas Sands also operates the Congress Center conference facility that links the casino to the nearby Sands Expo Center trade show and convention center. In addition, the firm operates The Sands Macao casino in China, and The Palazzo Casino next door to the Venetian in Las Vegas. Chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson and trusts for his family own nearly 70% of the firm.

The Competitive Landscape

Growth in consumer income and state spending has driven expansion of the US gambling industry. The profitability of individual companies depends on efficient operations and effective marketing. Large operators have the financial resources to make large investments in facilities and efficient computer operations, and have cross-marketing opportunities. Small gambling facilities can thrive by catering to a local clientèle. The industry is fairly labor-intensive: annual revenue per employee is US$90,000.

Gambling Operations Industry Forecast

USA personal consumption expenditures for participant amusements and pari-mutuel net receipts, which include gambling operations, are forecast to grow at an annual compounded rate of 5 % between 2008 and 2013.
