Itasca Board of Revitalization We have come a long way but still have much to do. Many in Itasca have worked hard to clean up differ-ent areas and because of those efforts; the city is be-ginning to look wonderful. Even so, there are places that need some work. We must work together and make Itasca really shine. Fall cleanup begins October 5th through the 15th and again in November from the 3rd to the 9th

Itasca Ex- Students Committee Seek Current Addresses

The Itasca Ex- Student Committee is seeking current addresses of Itasca Ex-Students. The current database of addresses has become obsolete and many of the Homecoming Edition free papers sent to exes are re-turned to the committee address unknown. This year the committee is relying on exes to pass the infor-mation on to classmates. To obtain information on the 2013 Homecoming Festivities can be found on the Itasca ISD website and Facebook Itasca Ex Wampus Cats. Exes can email [email protected]. The committee appreciates all the help they can get to update addresses.

Senior Spotlight- Melissa Prosser

Reporter/Photographer Bekah Payne Artist Garrett Arellano

19-year-old Melissa Oleta Prosser, niece of Elden and Sue Prosser of Valley Mills, was born in Clifton, Texas on July 29, 1994. She cur-rently resides at PCHAS with her home parents An-drew and Cristen Rogers. Outgoing, sweet and funny are 3 words that are used to

describe her. She has one sister Brandy Prosser, who is 16. Melissa has attended Itasca since the first grade. She will always remember how “everyone helps you when you need help”. Melissa can often be found at Glitz and Glam-our where she works as a cosmetologist assistant and shampoo technician. Melissa is actively involved at First Presbyterian Church of Itasca. When she is not working or doing home-work, she is at band practice working hard to make it to state again this year. In her free time, Melissa enjoys watching sports and prac-ticing the art of cosmetology. She also loves playing with her dog Rader. Melissa’s favorite subject is history, alt-hough she really loves band too. Her favorite teachers are Mr. Middleton and Erika Hatridge. Melissa’s advice to the underclassmen is, “take your time, and do your best.” She lives by the quote, “be there for each other.” Melissa strives to make friends with every-one and wants to be nice to all. She plans to attend Hill College and get a general studies degree. She would like to own a salon somewhere in New Mexico and have a large family. Melissa’s favorite movie is The Note-book, her favorite food is Fettuccini Alfre-do, and she loves the Twilight Saga. She enjoys the small town feel simply because everybody knows everybody. Missy and Oleta are her nicknames

Senior Spotlight- Morgan Olney

Reporter/Photographer Peyton Cordell Artist Garrett Arellano

“Funny, interesting, and moti-vated” are the words to de-scribe 17-year-old Morgan Jo-Ann Olney. Born on March 29, 1996 in Bedford, Texas, proud parents; Micheal and Amy Olney wel-comed Morgan. However, she is

definitely not the only child in the house. She has five other siblings; Cameron Olney-20, Lucy Potts-14, Maddy Olney-13, Zane Olney-11, and Ella Olney-10. Morgan has attended Itasca ISD since the beginning of this year, and loves the feel of a small town and small school. She is an active member of the First Presbyterian Church Youth Group in Itasca. One thing Morgan loves about IHS, is how sweet and considerate all of the teach-ers are. Her favorite class is Government, along with her favorite teachers; Mr. Scott and Mr. Bishop. Morgan is in cosmetology school at Hill College and intends to continue her cosmetology career after gradua-tion. From there, she aspires to be a psychologist further down the road. During Morgan’s spare time, she spikes the volleyball, does hair, and reads. She adores the book “Stolen” by Lucy Christopher. As Morgan prepares to graduate, she leaves this advice to her underclassmen, “Don’t get caught up in drama.”

Meet the Teacher ;Jennifer Crosby

Reporter/ Photographer Jennifer Murray

Jennifer Crosby is a new face at IMS campus this year. She enjoys living in Itasca “I grew up in a small town like this” she said and loves the idea of raising her two children, Charley and Shelby here. She grew

up in a small town outside of Austin, Texas and graduat-ed from West Academy Fort Worth. She then decided to further her education at Tarleton in Stephenville, Texas, where she obtained her degree in education. She is a first year teacher, guiding seventh and eighth grade. It was her desire to be a teacher and to continue her own edu-cation. She stands by the motto “Learning is fun if you put your mind to it.”

Wampus Cats vs Wortham Reporter Adam Youngblood

The Wampus Cats took on Wortham last Friday night in Wortham. Itasca won the coin toss and kicked in the first. The Cats made an impressive defensive stop, forcing a turnover. To start on offense, #6 Brandon Farquhar threw a complete pass to #33 Gabriel Macias, and #22 Wayne Arellano ran the ball 30 yards. #6 Brandon Farquhar threw the ball into the end zone to #5 Taylor Minyard scoring a touchdown for Itasca. In the second, Wortham gained ground and took the lead by scoring two touchdowns, but #22 Wayne Arellano caught the two point pass conversion and ran it all the way back. The Wampus Cats ended the half 17-14. After the Cats scored another touchdown, Itasca’s defense was ready to work. The game was too close for comfort. Wortham had the last possession with a score of 27-24 in their favor. Next week is Itasca’s bi-week. On October 11, the Wampus Cats kick off their first district game against Italy in Itasca. Be at Patton Field at 7:30 to support your Varsity team.

Melvin’s Musings Dr. Melvin Curry Class of 1952

After finishing my physics and embryology classes and passing, I had just a few days before the summer semester. Our beautiful Lisa was born on May 28th

I continued totally in the dark. I failed the first test-terribly. My friend who had helped me in phys-ics tried to help me again. He told me that I needed to memorize the formulas and quit trying to figure it out. There were three legal size pages, full on both sides of formulas. I wrote them hundreds of times. Wore out pencils, used reams of paper, I was at the school library every morning at 6 a.m. when it opened. The chemistry teacher had her office in the library. I was in her face every morning, asking for her help. I kept reminding her what was at stake; my whole future for me and my family de-pended on it. I failed every test until the final-which I passed. She gave me a C. I have no doubt she gave it to me. She threw out all the other test grades. The second semester was easier. We got in the lab, and I actually passed this course. Inorganic Chemistry was just a roadblock leading to greater things.

and when I went to sign up for Organic Chem-

istry, the teacher looked at me and said, “You can’t pass this course.” She said, “It’s been too long since you took Inorganic Chemistry”, and I would need to repeat it. I told her that I was admitted to medi-cal school, and this is the only class I lacked. It all depended on this. I had no time to take another class. She said, “But you can’t pass it”. I said, “Just let me in; I have got to pass it.” She admitted me with no hope whatsoever. The first class I could not remember anything. After class, I told her I knew it had been a long time, but I had never heard any-thing like this. She said, “That is what I was trying to tell you, it is not taught like you learned it be-fore.”

The Junior High rang with ex-citement as they ran to the gym for their pep rally. The combined team of seventh and eighth grad-ers marched out with pride as the Itasca Fight song played. The

Mrs. McCue and Mrs. Crosby, the twins, popped the balloon first. The crowd cheered with excitement as the cheerleaders did one last amazing stunt. Wampus Cats of the

Week Reporter/Photographer Jennifer Murray

Wampus Cat of the Week goes to our amazing bus drivers: Patty Miller, Obie Massey, Will Johnson, Gary Cotton, Anna Carr, and Aliza Dugas. Each day they get up early, put on a bright face for what may come their way. During school hours, they inspect their buses, insuring that their passengers reach their destinations safely. If you happen to see a bus driver, shake their hand and give them a cheery Thank You. Keep up the good work Bus Drivers.
