BLOCKS OF CLAY, CARVED AWAY FROM, ADDED TO, MOULDED AND MORPHED UNTIL

THOUGHT PURE AND IDEAL. THE

CRAFTSMAN’S HEART AND SOUL EVIDENT

IN EVERY WELL CONSIDERED LINE

AUTOMOBILE RESTORATION IS THE REVIVAL OF THE CAR, BRINGING THE HAND OF THE CRAFTSMAN BACK TO THE CAR,

ALLOWING FOR THE RESTORER TO INVEST THEMSELVES IN THE MANIFESTATION OF

A ONE OF A KIND AUTOMOBILE, MUCH LIKE THE ORIGINAL

SCULPTOR.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT

WAS TO DESIGN AN ARCHITECTURE FOR THE PATIENT CRAFT

OF AUTOMOBILE RESTORATION. TO

TAKE A HUMBLE ARCHITECTURE

SUCH AS THE PRE-FABRICATED POLE

BUILDING AS A KIT OF PARTS, MUCH LIKE THE AUTOMOBILE, AND CRAFT THE

MODEST MATERIALS TO CONSTRUCT

AN ARCHITECTURE MORE SPECIFIED TO CAR RESTORATION

THE CRAFT OF GLASS CASTING

ALL OF THE CASTINGS WERE MADE OF

RECYCLED GLASS, FROM CANDLE

HOLDERS TO BROKEN WINDOWS

MOULDS WERE MADE OF REFRACTORY

CONCRETE, BRICKS, STEEL, AND STRIPS

OF KILN SHELF

A SINGLE CASTING TOOK ANYWHERE

FROM 48 TO 64 HOURS

THE FINAL PRODUCT WAS A STOOL

THE SURFACE IS A 16 x16 x 0.75 CAST

GLASS SHEET MADE FROM GLASS THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY A COMPUTER TABLE.

THE BASE IS MADE FROM A SINGLE 4 x 8 SHEET OF HALF INCH FURNITURE GRADE

PLYWOOD, CRAFTED TO ALLOW THE GLASS

TO BE LIT FROM BELOW AS WELL

AS ALLOWING THE REFLECTED LIGHT

TO ILLUMINATE THE FLOOR

NOTES:This firing schedule was a further refinement of the previous. This casting was 20 pounds of tempered glass, previously a glass countertop which had shattered.. The glass was cleaned and melted down to make a square sheet, the mould was made of strips of kiln shelf lined with a refractory paste and supported by bricks
