The range of substation portable earthing equipment is suitable for temporary earthing within the range of conductors 66kv to 400kV.

The P & B Weir substation portable earthing equipment range is designed to meet ENA technical specification 41/21. This includes the Earth End Clamps which are precision manufactured from a robust aluminum casting with stainless steel fittings.

The sprung loaded feature of all types makes them suitable for application by hand to copper or aluminum earth bars in any natural condition.

When manually applying and removing these clamps only firm pressure by a person of normal strength is necessary to achieve a good contact and tightness.

Sprung loaded clamps should be tightened down until the spring is fully compressed. Earth end clamps should be fastened securely in place before any attempt is made to secure the line end clamp.

Clamps should be inspected at intervals and prior to each application. All clamps should operate freely and moving parts should be lightly lubricated, springs should be protected by heavy grease and contact faces should be clean.

P&B earthing lead ESI-C1-2T1 is produced from multi-stranded, commercially pure aluminum with an extruded PVC to protect the cable from damage.

The flexible aluminum earth lead comes with approved compression terminations and support sleeves which are used for connecting between a line end clamp and an earth end clamp.

They are also designed to meet specific requirements of ENA technical specification 41/21.

The flexible conductor is of a circular cross section made up of commercially pure aluminum wires, giving a nominal sectional area of 150sq.mm.

Leads are also available in blue and green, solid, opaque or semitransparent colored PVC sheaths. Other colours are available on request.

Earth leads can also be provided from flexible multi stranded copper 35, 70 and 95 sq.mm as an alternative to aluminum leads.

All types, whether sprung loaded or not should be applied by means of an operating socket attached to an insulated operating pole.

The design of all line end clamps is such that once hooked over the bus bar they become self- supporting whilst the operating screw is tightened or loosened.

Clamps should be inspected at intervals and prior to each application. All clamps should operate freely and moving parts should be lightly lubricated, springs should be protected by heavy grease and contact faces should be clean.

The range of substation portable earthing equipment is suitable for temporary earthing within the range of conductors 66kV to 400kV.

Our operating poles are manufactured from a lightweight resin-impregnated fiber glass and is of a high electrical insulation grade.

All our operating poles are manufactured, tested and approved to the ENA technical specification 41/21. The poles are machined to provide rigid assembly and include double sided snap action spring locking device.

Operating poles are available as 2.44m (8ft) top and bottom single sections or 2 1.22mm (4ft) sections permanently linked to avoid a 1.22m (4ft) length of pole being fitted with an operating socket.

Operating poles should be limited to a length of 4.88m (16ft) long as it is considered that 4.88m (16ft) is the maximum length of pole which can normally be handled with safety. End plugs only supplied when specified.

Our recommendation for the operating sockets for substations is S9D ESI S1 and CEA/S ESI S2 to fit our operating poles, shown on our operating socket leaflet.

The P&B Weir substation portable earthing equipment range is designed to ENA technical specification 41/21. This includes the S9D ESI S1 and the CEA/S ESI S2 sockets which are made using a light alloy material.

These essentially support the line end clamp while being carried at the end of an operating pole and also actuate the operating screw of the line end clamp whilst being secured into position or being removed.

Socket type S9D ESI S1 supports clamps being applied in an upward direction. When the clamp is fully tightened the socket should be pushed gently up towards the clamp at the same time maintaining the tightening pressure and to which the socket will then automatically disengage.

Socket type CEA/S ESI S2 is an alternative type to the S9D where the operating screw of the line end clamp is controlled by means of a sprung loading enclosed in the socket.

This socket is for application in a downward direction i.e. below the horizontal and for this reason is sprung loaded to ensure the clamp does not fall out of the socket inadvertently.

The robust fabric reinforced PVC carrying bags can be supplied for the storage and handling of substation earthing equipment. These will provide protection of the equipment during transit as well as easing transportation in the field and keeps the earth equipment clean.

Quick release buckles or flaps with Velcro fixing are supplied and comes with black webbing shoulder strap.

Normally P&B logos are printed on them so that they can be easily distinguished. Alternatively customer logo or reference numbers can be printed on the carry bag if required.
