The IVCC Junior High Honor Band concert was wonderful! Almost 90 young musicians filled the stage, from numerous area schools, and delighted the audience with their music. Eliana, Andrea and Leah represented PCA beautifully!

We are blessed to have so many music opportunities in our area! There is a new concert list sheet for February, on the desk next to the office, for more excellent musical experiences.

Readers as each child will choose a story from the Readers to read at graduation. Any questions,

In Social Studies we will be going to Kenya, Africa this week. We will learn about some animals of

Africa and our tasting will consist of pineapple, bananas and corn bread.

In Handwriting we include practice writing letters, words and sentences.

begin with letters of the alphabet. Types of lines will be introduced. (ex. Straight, perpendicular, curved and zig zag)

First grade – Mrs. Wolbrecht

Kindergarten continued ~

The children are establishing the consistency of naming and writing the number after a certain number. We are writing

the number words one–six and introduce “seven and eight”. We will spell, recognize and match number words with the

correct number. This week we will write numbers 80-100. One half will be reviewed and then we will instruct minutes

on a clock and 1/2 past or 30 minutes after the hour.

Our Bible story is about Jesus picking his disciples. Jesus’ love was not only for the disciples, it is for everyone who decides to follow Jesus. We will decide what we can do to follow Jesus, who will we tell about Jesus’ love, how will people know that we love Jesus and follow Jesus.

We will review the ABC’s of being a part of God’s family. Admit we sin and are in need of help to live God’s way, be-lieve Jesus is God’s son, died for our sins and rose again and Confess Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives.

Our memory verse is John 13:35;

“By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Bible: This week we will be learning about how Jesus miraculously fed a crowd of people all because a boy was willing

to share.

And do not forget to do good, and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16

Poetry

The Wonderful World

By William B. Rands

Great, wide, beautiful, wonderful world,

With the wonderful water around you curled,

And the wonderful grass upon your breast,—

World you are wonderfully dressed.

The wonderful air is over me,

And the wonderful wind is shaking the tree,—

It walks on the water, and whirls the mills,

And talks to itself on top of the hills.

You friendly Earth! How far do you go

With the wheat fields that nod and the rivers that flow,

With cities and gardens, and cliffs, and isles,

And people upon you for thousands of miles?

cards at home. Please bring this with you on Tuesday and don’t forget your classmates valentine cards! It will be a fun

afternoon!

Have a blessed week!

God’s work done in God’s way will never lack

God’s supplies!

We are continuing a major “love” portion of Scripture. It is I Cor. 13.

We are still working with fractions in math, studying list 22 in spelling, learning of our state’s growth in

history and moving on to Geology in science. We are beginning to work on our Illinois state notebook. We will be writ-

ing a research report on a famous Illinoisan as we work through our next English chapter. They are to begin to fill in the

pages that need to be completed independently. Pictures may come from magazines, brochures, your own camera, inter-

net, or most any other source. Please let me know if you need assistance with this.

We would like to go to Springfield sometime this spring late in April or early May on a Friday, and I

do not have any date secured yet. If you would enjoy the trip and would like to be a driver, please let me know.

We hope to tour the current state capitol and the old one, too, in the morning. We will be arriving at The Lincoln

Museum by 1:00 and hopefully we’ll be able to stop and visit Lincoln’s tomb on the way home. We should leave

by 7:45 a.m. and we will hopefully be back by 7:00 p.m. I am figuring 2 ½ hours for the trip each way. The chil-

dren will need to bring a disposable packaged lunch. We will stop for supper. I do not have my drivers secured,

but I will probably need at least two.

Our Valentine party is from 1:15 - 3:00 on Tuesday. There are 10 children in our class and we will have

opportunity to trade Valentines. I am asking the children to make a lovely/interesting container at home for their Valen-

tines. It could be a shoe box, a bag, a decorated large envelope. Enjoy! We are also in need of old CDs or DVDs (to be

used for a craft), marbles, bouncy balls, and lids of glue sticks or that size item.

History:

6th graders are learning about W.W. I and the Roaring Twenties. We will finish this unit tomorrow and

test over chapter 12 on Friday. Students will have an upcoming research paper in English and History

the next two weeks. We will walk through the plan in English next week. They will have some research

time in class. Each student should begin selecting a person or group from W.W. II to report on. These

will be due Feb. 27th.

7th graders are studying an overview of American colonization and independence. Their note packet will be their daily

grade for the rest of the week. All of the answers are found in the book. We are also giving interesting group presenta-

tions. Our first one was today. Elli Gale and Drew Knipper did a great job with their model, drawing, and report on the

Spanish Armada!

8th graders are looking at the Lyceum and educational movement in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Test over this chap-

ter is Friday. It also contains review maps of the United States.

English/Literature:

6th graders should finish up Island of the Blue Dolphins. This story is based on the account of a true story. Students will

have until next Monday to create a pop-up book report. The instructions for it were given in class for it. It should be 5-7

pages, created pop-ups, and summarize the plot of the book in complete paragraphs. We are all excited about this me-

dium, mixing creativity with this story we have loved so much! Next week we begin studying how to compose a research

paper.

Also, spelling test will be a review of the last 3 units. It will be on Friday.

7th Grade: We are in Act II of Romeo and Juliet this week. Students should study terms and vocabulary. We are looking

forward to next month’s Navy Pier trip with the eighth graders. Start saving up for some food and spending money! Mrs.

Kiser is arranging this great yearly adventure. Details will be forthcoming soon.
