Port Marine Surveyor Brisbane

Purpose of JobThe Port Marine Surveyor works closely with other members of the Ship Safety Division to establish the seaworthiness of ships at Australian ports and to contribute to safe and pollution free shipping.

Prerequisites A Certificate of Competency as Master Class 1, Engineer Class 1 or equivalent qualifications; Good understanding of AMSAs role within the Australian and international maritime industry; Experience in and/or knowledge of marine surveying, the management and/or performance of technical functions in a related maritime field; Knowledge of the international maritime safety regulation regimes; and Understanding of the principles of various ship inspection regimes.Major Areas of Responsibility Undertake marine surveys, inspections and investigations to establish compliance with relevant and applicable maritime safety, pollution and other legislation; Submission of reports and other documents for compliance using Microsoft Office suite of applications; Maintain current knowledge of international and domestic legislation, standards and regulations applicable to marine surveying; Assess plans, systems and equipment and perform measurements and calculations relating to marine survey functions; Undertake health and safety (OH&S), casualty, accident and pollution investigations and provide technical advice to courts and other relevant tribunals; Liaise with industry on technical matters and represent AMSA in appropriate forums; Conduct examinations for Certificates of Competency and other examinations; Undertake duties relating to the National Plan to Combat Pollution of the Sea by Oil and Other Noxious Substances; Commitment to the principles of participative management, workplace diversity and a safe, healthy, environmentally friendly workplace.
