Common spelling error 1:their, theyre and there

The easiest way to discriminate between these commonly

confused words is to learn the following definitions:

Their = belonging to, e.g. their house.

Theyre = they are, e.g. theyre not in.

There if the word that you want means neither of the

above, then you should use this one, e.g. There is a lot of

confusion about the spelling of these words.

There is a lot of confusion about the spelling of

these words. In the above sentence, you cannot own an is so

their could not be the correct word.

Nor are you trying to say they are is a lot of

    confusion.

So that just leaves there is a lot of confusion

Common spelling error 2:were, were, wearand where

The easiest way to discriminate between these commonly

confused words is to learn the following definitions:

Were = we are, e.g. Were here.

Were = the past tense of are, e.g. Wewere here. In

order to help you check if this is the word that you want to

use, you could try asking yourself if it makes sense to

change the tense, e.g. We are here. As it does make

sense when changed to the present tense, you know thatyou are dealing with the past tense verb were.
