MLT has developed the SUPER-SCREW®. It is a flexible rubber splice to screw on to the belt. MLT specific screws are self-drilling and self-tapping (they spread the carcass threads without cutting them). The screwing system allows Super-Screw® to be installed regardless of the :- Configuration of the conveyor belt,- Access conditions,- Weather conditions.
The Super-Screw® significantly reduces downtime. It can bear service tensions up to 200 N/mm (belt breaking strength up to 2 000 N/mm). It is available in different qualities of rubber (see below).
Simple and practical, the Super-Screw® is versatile !
Super-Screw® used as splice
Super-Screw® : splice and patch
- Installation without need of physical strength- Quick installation (saves downtime)- Installation under all weather conditions- Installation using battery operated screw driver, no need of electricity power - No use/need of expensive equipment- No need of highly skilled operator- Wear and cut resistant- High tensile strength- Flexible
- Can be used for a bridge even with different belt carcass- Suitable for high-heat belt up to 200°C- Compatible with small pulley diameter- Compatible with conveyor scraper- No drilling preparation, no template- Self tapping screws through the belt- Available on coil or «ready to use» cut lengths- Many rubber qualities available

Specific data for coil
Super-Screw® in bias 1/3
For selecting the right Super-Screw® fastener you have to analyse following points :- The belt tension and the strength of the belt (i.e. EP1000 for 1000 N/mm).- The final belt thickness for the right choice of the screw size (the rubber on the top and the bottom of the belt must be removed in order to reach a flat surface ). - Rubber quality : wear resistant, oil resistant, heat resistant 150°C (170°C flash), heat retardant 170°C (200°C flash) fire resistant, white (FDA) or for very low tem-perature down to -50°C. Optional with textile on the bottom side or with a PU protection cover. - The possible request of non magnetic splice : select metallic inserts made of amagnetic stainless steel and screws made of stainless steel, or carbon steel inserts and galvanized screws. - The belt width : order a longer fastener of + 10 % minimum of the belt width to have a minimum inclination of 1/3 of the belt width.

ASSEMBLY OF SUPER-SCREW®FROM COILS
For Super-Screw® 35 to 105
For Super-Screw® 125 to 200
Figure 1
Figure 2The coils are delivered identified. The remaining length is indicated every meter.
1. Unroll the coils side by side, in the same direc-tion and, for each, measure the length required.
2. Align the top and bottom (refer to Figure 1 to align the two parts).NOTE : You may notice a small gap due to the elasticity of materials.
3. Cut the coils using the MLT cutting press for easiness and quality of the cut, or another cutting tool. The remaining length is indicated every meter.NOTE : MLT manufactures adapted punches.
4. Set the spacers on the internal face of the bottom part of the Super-Screw. First, place the spacer in the first 2 holes of each part, then, every 3 holes. Figure 2
5. Place the top face of the bottom part (the internal face against each other). Figure 1- WARNING - there is an installation direction : check that the holes on top do correspond with those below. If the two parties are well positio-ned, the light passes through each hole.
6. Screw the spacers on, starting with the first 2 from each end.
How to differentiate the top part from the bottom part?

How to recognize the quality of the Super Screw® rubber? There is a seal on the top part of the Super-Screw ® which indicates the quality of the rubber.

The thin rubber cover over the top metallic inserts will be erased after a short while, allowing a visual control of a correct tightening and positioning, the state and conditions of performance. This has no consequence related to the Super Screw resistance

HOW TO INSTALL YOUR SUPER-SCREW® ?
- a Super-Screw® appropriate and assembled (see p 6 )- a MLT PZ bit - a ruler- a marking pen- a cutter- a powerful electric drill or 18V or 24 V battery- the quantity of screws needed (see p 5)- the MLT skiver
- SKIVE OR GRIND THE BELT TO INBED THE SUPER-SCREW® SPLICE AND AVOID SOME OVERTHICKNESS
- DO NOT USE AN IMPACT WRENCH TOOL - SLIDE UNDERNEATH THE SUPER-SCREW® A THICK WOOD BOARD
- DO NOT SCREW ON A DRUM - TAKE APPROPRIATE SAFETY GEAR : PPE
W A R N I N G
- Measure the thickness of the carcass or the belt to choose the correct screw length and the right kind of Super-Screw®. For a better passage over the rollers and the scrapers, provide a bias installation (see page 2).
Cut your belt with a 1/3 bias (or 10% min of the width of the belt). The other side of the belt should be cut with a bias in the opposite direc-tion.
Chamfer the end of the belt top and bottom as shown.Position Super-Screw® against the belt, ensuring that Super-Screw® is resting against the central spacers.
Start screwing by the center, continue by one end, then the other end without twisting Super-Screw®. Keep screwing until the screw catches the underneath thread, and avoid as this stage to compress strongly the belt. NOTE : Screw on a flat and hard thick wooden board.
Spread the screwing process over the whole of the surface, by first crewing one hole over four along the row. Repeat the operation over the other(s) row(s).
In order to get into contact both belt ends, unscrew the center part and di-sassemble the thickness and alignment spacers.
Get into contact the belt end, while ensuring the belt ali-gnment, and resume screwing again the other half of Su-per-Screw® as shown previously. Then, screw the center part and screw tighly all the screws.
Cut the belt end (opposed to the trailing edge) as shown.
Areas already screwed are shown in grey
Screw one hole over two and achieve the operation.
Skive down both top and bot-tom belt rubber covers with the MLT skiver (check the skived rea-chback length into the belt on page 4 chart)

SUPER-SCREW® : Good / Bad
Forbidden
On chevron belts, Super-Screw® has to be installed in « V » or in bias to avoid a violent contact between the return roller” and SS.
It’s important to install Super-Screw® in bias (at least 10% of the belt width) to obtain optimal performance.
Using too long Super-Screw® screws :- makes the transition from the junction noisy- results in the inserts lifting up the screws and possibly tearing off the belt carcass
Both ends of the belt must be in contact against each other.
It is necessary to inbed the Super-Screw® into the belt by skiving off the top and bottom rubber covers of the belt.
To avoid to pull off the in-serts and ease up the pas-sage of the screws through the chimneys, the installa-tion of Super-Screw® must be done on a flat and hard thick wooden board.
Well done
