Feedback on ABC-Florida at The Special Event January 24-27. Tampa

I had the privilege to help plan the ABC Networking Mixer in Tampa during The Special Event. I was lucky enough to work with Tammy Waterman and Toni Tassoni to plan this Mixer. I learned so much on what it takes to really plan it from start to finish. I helped with registration, and coming up with networking games, and getting people to sign up. We had a great turnout at this event, 30-35 members attended. Also we had wedding planners that were in the area for The Special Event come and join us, and learn about what the ABC has to offer. I had the opportunity to meet so many people at the Mixer held at the David A Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa. The staff and food were phenomenal, with shrimp and grits being the star of the night. The room was decorated so beautifully with the linens provided by Connie Duglin, and Apple Blossoms creating the beautiful

flower arrangements. Also we got to listen to the enjoyable music from Chuck Weirich, and photography of this event was by Bryan Glynn. I would like to thank everyone that attended and helped make this event a success. I want to give an even bigger thanks to Elise Enloe, Tammy Waterman, and Toni Tassoni again for letting me be a part of this wonderful event and teaching me everything you know! If you haven’t been to a networking meeting recently, I really recommend that you attend one, you get to meet so many new people while having an amazing night! ~ Erin Siegel, ABC-Florida

Intern

I enjoyed my experience at the Special Event Conference in Tampa. The classes were inspiring and informative. I especially liked learning about the New Trends inspired by

Hollywood, being challenged by Savvy designer Richard Randall on how to "Re-think, Re-Purpose old decor or one you already have into new looks, for the brides that may not want flowers for their decor. Courtney Hammons told us how to set ourselves apart in a saturated market, something we know all too well, here in Orlando Florida. We all learn the big steps, however she reminded us that it's in the small things! I strongly believe in the same thing, hence the reason for my business name (Personally Yours Wedding Planners). There was a panel of professionals that told us the Do;s and Don'ts of business etiquette for traveling and working abroad, for those who is doing or planing to do destination events. In all there was a lot to learn, and instructors that were well informed. A conference well worth it. I was very glad to have been there. ~ Conchita Flynch, PBC,

ABC Business of Brides Annual Conference: Diamonds & Denim Denver, Colorado

www.BusinessofBrides.com

As romantic as a beach wedding ceremony sounds, there are serious environmental problems involved with music on a beach. Quality string in-struments (violin, viola, cello) can be easily damaged by the sand. Even with no wind blowing there are tiny sand particles in the air. The salt wa-ter in the air becomes extremely cor-rosive to the wood of a string instru-ment. There is also the problem of the strings going out of tune and the wood swelling before the ceremony is over due to the moisture in the air. You would not want to hear the strings "tuning up" during the cere-mony nor would you want to hear the strings playing "out of tune" by the

end of the ceremony.

Even worse is having a keyboard play a ceremony on the sand. With all the intricate electronics in an electric key-board it only takes a small sand parti-cle to freeze up the keyboard and cause major repair problems. Much worse is trying to have a harp perform in the beach - add the problem of moving the harp through sand to the problem of the effect of the sand and moisture on the strings and wood frame of the harp. Requests for string instruments, harp, flamenco guitar for wedding ceremonies outdoors during

Wedding Music Problems

November and December also have issues. Temperatures below 60 de-grees cause the fingers of the per-

formers to freeze up and swell.

No one can predict what the tempera-ture will be several months in ad-vance. In this case a definite PLAN B is needed for an inside location. Any time an outdoor ceremony is ar-ranged, a PLAN B has to be in place in case of rain. Strings, guitar, and harp cannot perform in rain or even

light drizzle without damaging the instruments. Keyboard adds the problem of electricity - the availabil-ity of electricity at a park etc. and the problem of electric shocks in

damp weather.

Lastly, make sure appropriate per-mits are secured for weddings in parks and public beaches or the wedding may not take place. ~ Stan Wiest, Stan Wiest Music, Fort Sa-

longa, NY

Member Wedding: Alyssa_and_Francisco

The Couple: For several years Franky

and Alyssa had been planning their wedding, but the couple constantly had to push the date back because they just didn't have the financial means. They had decided to get married at the courthouse, hoping they could have a traditional wedding ceremony and re-ception at a later date. But like some young couples, their desires were put on the backburner in order to take care of the business of family. At 23 they were blessed and challenged with two children, only 1 year apart, Amaya (2 yrs old) and Ezequiel (1 yr old pree-mie). These are what we would call miracle babies, especially since Alyssa’s pregnancies were high risk

pregnancy due to her petite size.

Inspiration: Every hospital visit from the 20th through 33rd week, Alyssa and Franky would talk about their dream wedding. She would tell him how she wanted to be able to dance with her dad. She loves to dance and wanted it to be full of dancing. She wanted her parents to be able to relax and not worry about anything. They would talk about how they just wanted everyone to have fun. And she would tell him that she wanted a dessert bar (not an alcohol bar) full of strawberry frosted and glazed donuts from Dunkin Donuts, chocolate chip cookies, candy and just things they love to have along with a strawberry milk fountain rather than a punch foun-

tain. But upon Ezequiel’s 3rd week in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), they decided to hold off on any wedding plans. But they couldn't stop talk-ing about all the ro-mance they wanted in the room with lots of

candles and flowers.

Most Unique Ele-ment: The Bride’s sis-ter never got to dance with her father at her

wedding, we had what would have been her father daughter dance played at Alyssa’s wedding and she

was able to dance with her father as well.

Color Palette: Fuschia and silver were the colors that were at the wedding with added bling! Pink was the bride’s favorite color and the hot pink aisle runner accentuated the ceremony quite

well.

Approximate Budget: -0- Dollars, the entire wedding over $27,000 was do-nated by the vendors through their ser-

vices.

Guest Count: About 80 people

Biggest Challenge: Finding a venue

that would host the wedding for free. The Heaven Event Center came

through and the entire wedding was coordinated in

two weeks.

On teamwork: Many special thanks to ABC mem-bers Diane Jenson with the Wedding Party and Tyneshia Perine of 27 Miracles for donating their ser-vices of coordination that day. As we entered the Christmas season, these members gave back. Wedding plan-ners from two different companies helped 27 Miracles with various things on the day of the wedding, videogra-phers and hair and makeup artists also worked side by side. Rosie from 27 Miracles was very proud to work with Orlando’s top notch vendors that have donated their time and products to help Alyssa and Francisco fulfill their wedding dreams. And al-though planning a wedding in two weeks and at times receiving rejection and criticism from many for donating services, Rosie of 27 Miracles would do-

nate again if it is truly a need of love.

Hindsight: I do not have any regrets at all. I would

do this again if the opportunity arose
