The net should be 5'1" at the posts Different Badminton Strokes: 1. Serve – underhand stoke to start game play 2. Drive – a hard horizontal stroke that just clears the net 3. High and Clear – underhand stroke driving the birdie high and deep into the opponent’s court 4. Drop – a short shot in which the birdie just clears the net and falls to the floor. 5. Smash – an overhead stroke in which the birdie travels at a downward angle. 6. Lob - high, deep shot to the back of the court 7. Hairpin - Stroke made from below and very close to the net with the shuttle just clearing the net and dropping sharply downward. Serving: 1. To start a game, one team spins a racquet, the other team calls circles up or down. The team that wins chooses: a. Serve first or b. Defer and make the other team serve first. 2. In doubles, both people on a team have a chance to serve each time except for the first service of a game. The first time, only one of the two team members gets a chance to serve. 3. Serving Boxes: a. Doubles: always start service from the right side first, regardless of the score. b. Singles: I. Even score = Right Side (including 0) ii. Odd score = Left Side 4. Must serve to the box that is diagonal to the one you serve from. 5. Each time the serving team scores a point, the same server serves the next serve but must switch service boxes. 6. The Team that wins the game will serve first in the next game. 7. A match consists of the best of 3 games.

Game Play: 1. Only the serving team scores points.

2. On the line is IN. 3. Faults: a. Serve is made above waist level.

b. Server steps forward when serving.

c. Serve goes to wrong service box. d. Serve is made when standing in wrong service box.

e. Birdie hits the net on the serve or goes through the net. f. Wrong player returns birdie on the serve. g. Birdie lands out of bounds.

h. Birdie fails to go over the net. i. Birdie hits the ceiling. j. More than one hit is made on the same side.

k. Birdie is returned before it crosses the net. l. A player or racquet touches the net. 4. If the serving team or player commits the fault the service is over. If the non- serving team or player commits a fault, then the serving team scores a point.

5. Official double games are played to 15 points.
