Bow thrusters, a very useful device

GOING THE

EXTRA MILE

Bow thrusters are often not a ship’s first priority, until they don’t function anymore. They make maneuvering much easier and take away the need for tug boats. Nevertheless bow thrusters are often ‘forgotten’ during maintenance. Surprisingly, because it’s very easy to inspect the bow thrusters while docking. As are changing blade foot O-rings and top seals of the pignon shaft. Both very rewarding operations.

AMPS offers:Inspection•Maintenance•Blade repair & modification•Overhaul•Controls•

If repair is necessary Sometimes it’s inevitable: the bow thruster needs a full overhaul. There are two options. 1. In dry dock 2. In house repair

What to do depends on the vessel’s schedule. If a docking is scheduled and there’s no urgency, dry dock is the most sensible choice. If time, spares and facilities are available AMPS can inspect and do the regular maintenance in dock. Even a complete overhaul is not a problem.

If there are no or poor facilities, or if the ship’s time schedule doesn’t allow a docking, we work in situ.If possible we do the necessary repairs on board. If not we dismount the bow thruster, blind the mount hole and ship the bow thruster to the AMPS workshop. After repair it will be mounted back with the vessel trimmed or below the waterline. We do this in close cooperation with selected and classified divers and in the presence of an AMPS supervisor.

It’s a big advantage that the vessel can continue its journey according schedule. Read more about our workshop on the back.

Our own make:AEGIR-Marine PRIME PARTS AMPS can deliver all rubber parts (seals) and bearings for a bow thruster overhaul.Delivering on time is one of our priorities. That’s why we produce a lot of spares ourselves. We don’t -yet- produce all makes, but the spares we do produce are very competitive.

High quality, • the same or better than OEM-sparesA very • competitive priceAlways in stock•Our range of products is • constantly extending

We can deliver all OEM-sparesWe often hear that producers respond poorly, deliveries take (too) long and that procedures are complicated. If that’s your experience, it’s good to know that we can supply the OEM-spares you need. We know the ways and we are very persistent.Advantages for you: you save time, you don’t get annoyed and you get one bill to cover all.

Extra service: we draw up a spare parts listWhen you’ve booked us for a job, know that –as an extra service- we can make a list with all parts required for the scheduled work. We know what’s needed and see what’s missing or wrong. Just aks us, if you’re interested.

AMPS workshopsThe advantages of our AMPS workshop are plenty:It’s fully equipped for the overhaul of (bow)thrusters. We have cranes that can lift up to 10 tons. All necessary tools are present. As are the knowledge and experience.

Under water repair & placementIf a bow thruster needs to be repaired, mounted or replaced and docking is not an option we offer under water servicing. We selected some great diver companies. Not only are they qualified, they also have the knowledge and experience required. And just like us, they really like what they’re doing. If divers are required an AMPS supervisor will be present to coordinate and support the work.
