How the Art of Tomorrow has benefited students:
The Art of Tomorrow is about introducing students to the people, jobs and skills found in the Arts and Entertainment industry. It provides vehicle to discover the possibilities and career path that exists for them in a uniquely diverse profession. It helps them appreciate what it takes to be among the best in their field. It is designed to ignite a desire in students to approach their future with a passion for doing what they do everyday – by imagining where they could fit in.
The students will explore arts careers in several categories of the creative process, including concept, design, production and performance. Throughout this yearlong journey, students will work with mentors that are experts in their creative art form. These young learners will experience real world arts careers in a way that cannot be captured in a textbook. Classroom teachers are supported with standards based curriculum, including lessons plans and assessments, designed specifically for this project. An online classroom, containing this curriculum, as well as, many other resources serves as a communication pipeline between Universal Orlando professionals and students.
In partnership with Orange County Public Schools, Universal Orlando has added its resources to the creation and production of a dedicated OCPS Art of Tomorrow website. The site provides students with digital references that include audio/video clips, designs, graphics, photographs, script
templates, job descriptions, interviews and ongoing interactive communications capabilities. In conjunction with their classroom curriculum, individual research, student site visits to Universal, and mentor visits to the schools, students have everything they need to create an exciting and informative culminating presentation – chronicling their inspired journey into a world of newfound possibilities.

Letters of Support:
September 1, 2013
To Whom It May Concern,
I strongly support the nomination of the partnership between Universal Orlando and the Orange County Public Schools Visual and Performing Arts partnership for the FMEA Special Project award. The partnership between the Universal Orlando Foundation and the Orange County Public Schools has afforded our students a unique opportunity that capitalizes on the impact of the entertainment industry on the economy of Central Florida and promotes and encourages their continued involvement in arts learning opportunities at their schools.
Through this partnership, selected 8th grade students were given access to the behind the scenes workings of the entertainment giant Universal Orlando where they explored Arts and Creative Industries related jobs towards helping them see the connection between study in the arts at school and the pathways to college and career. Students met with employees such as design engineers, make-‐up artists, choreographers, directors and performers and explored the roles each of those titles played in creating and delivering and artistic and entertaining experience for guests of all ages. They were also provided opportunities to create their own documentaries about these and many other arts related careers and then had them premiered at a red-‐carpet event held at the Universal Cineplex at Universal’s City Walk. Busses were provided for each of the 3 visits to Universal Orlando and members of the Universal team visited the students at the school on many occasions. In addition, the school district arts curriculum team was provided with resources designed to aid in the development of Careers in the Arts curriculum that was standards based and provided teachers with tools to better prepare their students for this program.
This unique partnership has offered opportunities for teachers, administrators and Universal team members to collaboratively impact the future pathways of our young musicians, artists, actors and dancers that would not otherwise have been possible. The support for this program continues with an expansion in the 2013-‐2014 school year of more schools, more students and more opportunities to change lives through the arts.
Sincerely,
Scott Evans

Dear FMEA Awards Committee,
Please consider “Art of Tomorrow” for FMEA’s special project award. During the 2012-‐2013 school
year, Orange County Public Schools and Universal Orlando implemented a pilot program called the “Art of
Tomorrow”. As the OCSP Visual & Performing Arts Resource Teacher for Dance, Theatre and Visual Arts, I
had the opportunity to work collaboratively with Universal Orlando to roll out this learning experience for
students at Memorial Middle School. Through the “Art of Tomorrow”, students utilized Universal Orlando
as their learning lab and were exposed to unique and authentic experiences that focused on careers in the
arts. They had the opportunity to view professionals “in action” in their arts-‐specific career field, interview
these professionals, research arts-‐specific careers that they were interested in based on their learning
experiences, and work collaboratively with other students to create a script and share their learning
through a video-‐based project. The visual and performing arts teachers at Memorial Middle School
supported their students by teaching lessons on careers in the arts designed specifically for this program.
The pilot year went so well, that this year the program has expanded to a total of three of our OCPS middle
schools.
I look forward to continuing to participate in this enriching program each academic year!
Thank you,
Ashley Spero
