This is my secondvisit to IHGF. I amlooking for home, lifestyle and textileproducts and havefound someproducts that aregood enough tostrike a deal. I am looking for productsthat are not very expensive as I run awholesale business where the profitmargin is not very high. I would like themanufacturers to show that they can berelied upon by on time deliveries.Dick Van, Holand

Prime Interest: Home, lifestyleand textile products I have a small

scale business for

which I am

looking for bags,

jewellery and

accessories and

have found these

products here.

The primary reason behind me buying

them is that these products sell quickly

in my country. Apart from my regular

product categories, the jute box was

something that caught my eye. Apart

from quick supply, I would like the

manufacturers to keep innovating

because it is the design of the product

that makes it worth noticing and

buying. The buyer's lounge facility is

good and the food is great. I can say

that the fair has met my expectations.

Irene, Spain

Prime Interest: Bags,

jewellery and accessories

I am a regular visitor at

this fair and have made

some acquaintances with

traders and this time I am

also exploring new ones.

I deal in products related

to home interiors. I hold a

good running business in

the UK and the specifics that I look at in any

product are the quality and pricing. Their sales

are seeing an increase every year so they are in

demand. I expect the manufacturers to focus on

communication with their customer as it solves

every other aspect. Steven, UK

Prime Interest: Home interiors

This is my firstvisit and I'vecome herefindingproducts for mywholesalebusiness offurniture and I

can say that the fair met myexpectations really well. I found somegood innovative furniture designs thistime and also found some unexpectedadditions such as the phonograph, cushions and telescopes to my listbecause they caught my eye. Themarket in Lebanon is seeing its upsand downs thus affecting theproducts' sale. Though, whenever themarket is stable, I face no difficultiesin selling these off quickly. I expect themanufacturers to ensure the safe andtimely delivery of my shipment.Wael Choucair, Lebanon

Prime Interest: Furniture,phonograph and telescopes

This is my second visit tothe fair. I deal in jewelleryand home décor whichsells quickly, creatingrevenue for us. I havefound what I waslooking for and expectthe manufacturers tokeep in my mind that they should keepinnovating with new designs. Overall, I had agood experience. Gvonne Mars, Holand

Prime Interest: Jewellery

I am a regular visitor hereseeking products for homedécor because the demand forthem is high. Consumers areconstantly looking for productsthat would make their houselook different from the othersas no one wants similar

patterns. It is the pricing that matters here along withthe quality. The demand is high and for fulfilling it, theproducts should be made with new designs that showthe creativity of the manufacturers because theconsumer will not buy the same things repetitively. They should constantly work on improving designsand keep satisfying us as they are now. My experiencehere was overwhelming and I expect it to remain thesame for the rest of the days. Lucy, UK

Prime Interest: Home décor

I deal in a

wholesale

business of

furniture. I have

been visiting this

fair since last 12

years. This time it

is pretty nice.

There is a great demand for Indian

I have been coming here every year. I look

forward to better quality products from

Seminars & PresentationsHow Internet is driving the Future of CommerceInternet is something which opens the gateway to treasure. It has a visualmarket with unlimited possibilities. With the increase in popularity of onlinemarket, EPCH organized an awareness seminar on How Internet is drivingthe future of commerce by Mr. Vinay Bhartia, Senior Vice President, StrategicPartnership, Alibaba Group India. In his interesting presentation, Mr. Bhartiyadiscussed about possibilities of business through internet which providespresence to a business in more than 200 countries. "Offline will never getreplaced but online for sure has its own market", he explained.

So technically, physically, virtuallyor practically the world of Internet cannotbe ignored. Talking about India, thenumber of online shoppers is increasingday by day. It was 9% in 2013, 11% in2015 and 36% expected by 2020. He alsotalked about various reasons why Internetin India has been changing the shoppingworld like people getting better access tonetwork and smart phones are easilyavailable in any hand nowadays. There are21.9 Crore 3G/4G users in 2016. It reallychanges the market in a completelydifferent manner which cannot be disregarded.

How to Overcome Barriers with Negotiation Skills

EPCH organized a seminar on How to Overcome Barriers with NegotiationSkills on 16th October, 2016 at the board room, IEML. The guest speaker forthe event was Mr. Rajeev Tyagi, Senior Vice President, Arielle Sourcing. Mr.Tyagi began his presentation by explaining the importance ofcommunicating through a picture in business. "You may have the bestproduct with best price at best place but if you cannot communicate yourproduct, it is of no use and that's where the idea of communicating with apicture comes", Mr. Tyagi informed the participants. Further, Mr Tyagidiscussed the importance of e-mail as an important tool to negotiate andcommunicate with buyers. On e-mailing, Mr. Tyagi warned that one shouldkeep time zones in mind while replying. Also before replying, one shouldresearch about what they are going to respond. Sometimes one may nothave any answer for the buyer, but even then they at least reply with arequest to provide more time.

Mr. Tyagi also explained that communication skills are not about knowingenglish or any other foreign language but how deep one knows their productwell. Language barriers can be removed through interpreter or any othersource but if one doesn't know their products, and what they're are selling, they won't be able to sustain in the market.

On negotiation skills, Mr. Tyagi informed that it is an art which is as old asthe market. It has its own impact on the buyers-sellers relationship.Negotiation is an unavoidable part of the business, be it small or big, it doesmatter. One should never carry pre-conceived notions or weightage of pastexperiences while negotiating, he explained. While having negotiation ontable, one must get ready with all the calculation. "It's not about just usingthese skills, it's about how correctly we use these skills" he informed. Towardsthe end of the seminar participants put forth their queries to which Mr.Tyagi answered satisfactorily.

Goods and Services Tax (GST)- Implications for the Handicrafts SectorMr. Deepak Bajoria, D K Bajoria & Associates and Mr. B K Verma, executivepartner, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan began their session by defining theGoods and Services Tax followed by an elaborate explanation of the same."One thing that has to be kept in mind is that the GST act has not beenpassed yet, it's the Constitution Amendment Bill", Mr. Bajoria informed.

The guest speakers discussed the taxes to be sub-summed and taxes to benot sub-summed into CGST & SGST. Presently we have Excise Tax, ServiceTax, Sales Tax, Entry Tax/Local Tax and Custom Tax at different phases. ButGST is a single tax to replace various indirect taxes levied by Union andStates. The Centre imposes central excise tax, central service tax, servicetax, additional custom duty and special additional duty and the Statesimpose VAT/Sales Tax, Octroi, entry tax, purchase tax etc. All these taxeswill be replaced by one common tax, GST.

Throwing light on the benefits of the tax, Mr. Bajoria and Mr. Verma informedthat there will be many benefits from GST including common & unifiednational market, removal of barriers of trade, lower cost of doing market, equitable transport, and improved compliance resulting in reduced overalltax ratings. These are necessary because if we look at the report by theWorld Bank there are many issues like delays due to road blocks, tolls andother stoppage, freight time, logistic cost etc. They are expected to behistory after this magical law. GST may affect our GDP as well. According tothe Finance Commission study, our GDP may see a growth of 0.9-1.7%.

Talking about the impact on handicraft industry, the speakers informedthat we will have to wait for its implementation. It is expected that GST willchange the entire system and make things easier for the sector. The sessionended with an interactive Q&A session in which the participants raisedseveral queries and the guest speakers answered satisfactorily to them.

Mr. Gupta in his presentationexplained to the participants howsafety standard may vary fromcountry to country. Productcompliance, anti-counterfeiting,traceability, product integrity, on-going changes in the market andmarket surveillance are some of thecautions he advised the participantsto take care of. "Because a singlemistake can throw you out of thebusiness", he said.

Mr. Anurag informed that ULprovides free UL FUS inspectionguide, free UL standard tosubscribers, EPCH support and

MSME subsidy. Answering a question on even after having UL safety, ifanything goes wrong who will be responsible, Mr. Anurag answered that ifany mistake is done by UL then we will be solely responsible but in case thesubscribers make any, things are on them.

Mr. Gupta explained that UL is strict in its business and takes care of itssubscribers through surprise inspection, regular visits, buying products frommarket for inspection, providing information to its customer on how todeal with safety issues etc. Charges taken by UL are nominal and accordingto the products which are available on the website. Since MSME providessubsidy, things get easier. UL has been into business with FBI, CBI in India,US Custom Department etc. The seminar ended in an interactive session inwhich participants asked questions to which Mr. Gupta and Mr. Singhalanswered satisfactorily.

year. Indian products are very popular in

my country like almost everything from

India. Textile, shawls, scarves, accessories,

garments and leathers are what appeals

most to me. India has great potential. I

expect Indian products to improve every

year with new style and innovations. Tore

Suchproducts are very helpful from theseller's point of view. I was searching forproducts that had eye catching designsbecause what attracts me will attract thebuyers too. Innovation in designs andon time delivery is what I expect from themanufacturers. The shuttle service hereworks fine and the buyer's lounge onthe third floor is great. Demand for textiles

in Norway is

increasing and it is

very easy to find

nicely built

products at low

prices in India. This

helps me stay in

the game. The demand for Indian textile

products is high because of the designs

they provide at lower rates. I expect

manufacturers to do more research and

come up with more original pieces. There

are many halls left to check out and I

expect something out of them. The

services we've been provided with are very

nice with good food courts and the

comfortable buyer's area. U Hias, Norway

I am a wholesaler in America andhave come looking for furniture, brass and metal products. Theirdemand is high because of theconsumers redecorating theirplaces constantly. On these, I getorders in bulk which is very

necessary for a wholesaler. The Indian products are highin demand because of their skilled work upon designsand quality. I expect the manufacturers to researchabout buyer's requirements. The hotels are good andthe shuttle service is pretty responsive and frequent.Shaun, USA

My field of interestlies in daily lifestylegoods with anecessary artisticapproach used intheir creation. These products

never go out of style and have a constantdemand which is good for business and Ias a retailer seek them in India because ofthe lower rates that I get, withoutcompromising on the quality. I struckdeals with the manufacturers and nowexpect them to keep their word on theshipment dates. If they keep new designscoming in, they'll keep the consumershappy which would keep the businesshealthy and running. Facilities provide byEPCH are satisfactory. Anette, Norway
