International Peace Day Celebration, 2015 The International Day of Peace, sometimes unofficially known as World Peace Day, is observed annually on 21 September. It is dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and violence. The day was first celebrated in 1982, and is kept by many nations, political groups, military groups, and peoples. In 2013, for the first time, the Day was dedicated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to peace education, the key preventive means to reduce war sustainably. Action Works Nepal (AWON) is working in the field of peace building as one of the main thematic areas celebrates this day every year in dedication to world peace, absence of war and violence and for spreading the message of peace from local to national and international level. This year also AWON celebrated this day conducting various programs in Jumla like peace rally, poem competition, drawing competition, speech competition and price distribution of chair race competition at the primary and secondary level of different schools. As per the commitment this year AWON awarded and honored community unseen peace leaders by "Miteri GangaDevi Peace Award" where four community peace leaders from Nepal were awarded for their work in the change and development and for being the role models, peace and inspirational social leader encouraging community and youths in their community. District Peace Committee with coordination to various stakeholders in district took lead role for the day celebration. A rally with peace message on banner and play card, folk cultural dance march across khalanga bazar and set in a formal meeting with district head in Miteri Peace Learning Center to honor the awardee.The awardee represents grassroots activists, survivor of the conflict and peace makers. Each individual has a fascinating story to tell. The awardees are from diverse community and area across the country but connected for a social cause: to build peace together. The winners of the MGDPA award were Chaitee Giri (advancing women empowerment in rural and remote Nepal), Akwar Ansari (An Ambassador of Youth), Padmawati One minute silence to tribute the people who lost their lives in the Maoist insurgency Miteri Ganga Devi Peace Award awardees with the certificates and award

Programs conducted in different schools at Jumla and Kalikot during International Peace Day.

Primary Level Poem Competition: To

celebrate the International Peace Day,

AWON Jumla conducted the Primary Level

Poem Competition at Shree Namindada

Lower Secondary School of Kudari VDC

of Jumla where four primary level students

participated from four different schools

participated in the program. There were 58

participants altogether in the program among

which 29 were male participants, 19 were

female participants and 10 were dalits. The

principal of the same school, Mr. Ratan

Bahadur Shahi was the chief guest of the

program. Johwana Shahi from Shree

Namidanda Secondary School was the

winner of the poem competition.

Primary Level Drawing Competition:On the occasion of International Peace Day, AWON Jumla

organized Drawing competition for Primary level studentat Shree Durga Higher Secondary

School, of Lamra V.D.C. in the presence of 21 people, where the principal of Shree Durga H.S.S Mr.

Prem Bahadur shahi was the chief guest of the program. Two students from each school were

participated where four school were participated in the competition. Among the participants Kamal

Kami was the winner of the competition.

Secondary Level Speech Competition: Secondary Level Speech competition was organized

at Kalika Secondary School, Rachuli, Kalikot where there were 11 participants. The participants

gave the speech in the topic of "World Peace". There were 45 audiences all together and Ms.

Kalpana Shahi was the chief guest of the program. The lists of the winner along with the positions

Price Distribution of Primary Level Chair Race Competition: The price distribution program

was organized at Shree Kailash Secondary School, Sannuigaun for distributing the prizes to the

winners of the Chair Race Competition held on 2072-05-09. The price was distributed to the winners

from the principal of Shree Kailash Secondary School; Mr. Deep Bahadur Khatri who was also the

chief guest of that program. The total number of attendance of the participants was 17.
