The practice of movement is part of the energetics of sacred spaces worldwide.Islamic pilgrims circle the kaaba in Mecca. Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims alikecircumambulate Kailasanath or Mt. Meru. Christians in the Gothic cathedrals ofEurope make their rounds of the shrines in the churches. Visitors to the Buddhistmonument of Borobudur in Java circle the monument on each level as they wendtheir way to the top. In all cases, the energetics of both the place and the pilgrimare accentuated in the process.
