The weight and stiffness of an air hose applies pressure to the wrist and hands of the tooloperator.

This will limit tool manoeuvrability and tire the operator, and can cause Carpel TunnelSyndrome, back pain and other injuries. Swivel fittings are designed to limit these effectsand improve worker productivity.

When a fitting comes loose from a pres-surised hose or when a pressurised hose isruptured, the hose starts blowing com-pressed air in an uncontrollable way. Thiscauses the hose to whip and can result in:

The anti hose whip safety valve is an inline emergencyshutoff valve.

Under normal flow conditions the valve is open.

Under failure conditions, the pressure drop is suffi-cient to overcome the force of the valve spring and thevalve closes - the air is shut off.

As a reminder to shut off the air supply a smallamount of air continues to bleed after shut off at arate of 9 SCFM (leaks will be audible).

When the hose is repaired and the compressed air isswitched back on again, the valve repressurizes thedownstream system.

When the pressure on either sideis equalized, the valve opens complete-ly and the system is automaticallyreset.

TYPICAL INSTALLATIONAnti hose whip safetyvalves should beinstalled upstream ofthe air hose.

TTEECCHH TTIIPPOSHA standard no. 1926.302(b)(7) states that: « All hoses exceeding1/2 inch inside diameter shall have a safety device at the source of supplyor branch line to reduce pressure in case of hose failure. » TOPRING antihose whip safety valves satisfy this standard.

Hose whip is very dangerous and can reach speeds ofup to 150 km/h. This is why it is imperative that hosewhip be prevented !

PIPING ADAPTORS (Set of 2)

Designed to install or remove basicunits without direct pipe connectionsto the units.4 screws and 2 O-rings included.

Maintenance becomes very simple withTOPRING modular FRL units.

The biggest challenge with standard type FRL units requiring brass pipe fittings is screwing the unit onto opposing ends of air linepiping (while tightening one end, the other end is being loosened!).

With the piping adaptors available for TOPRING modular FRLs, the unit is installed by simply screwing the piping adaptors onto thetwo ends of the piping and sliding the FRL unit into place, securing it with the provided screws and O-ring seals.

Removal for maintenance purposes is just as simple, requiring only the removal of the retaining screws in order to slide the unit out.

Maintenance is difficult with standardFRLs.

• A filter increases tool life and toolperformance by eliminating contami-nants and water

• A regulator with built-in push-pulladjusting knob avoids accidentalchanges to set pressure

• A mist lubricator lubricates tools andincreases their useful life

• High flow unit, ideal for use with mostrotating air tools

• Piping adaptors included to facilitateinstallation, removal and maintenance

• Gauge included

• Sizes available: 1/4 MINI (39 SCFM);1/4, 3/8, 1/2 REGULAR (68 SCFM);1/2, 3/4 MAXI (127 SCFM)

Compressed air contains many contaminants, including water, watervapours, oil vapours and solids (dust, etc.). All of these contaminants willdamage tools and reduce their performance levels.

The use of an FRL unit (filter, regulator, lubricator) is one ofthe best ways to protect tools and ensure their bestperformance.

• True digital timer control allows virtually limitlessprogramming control

REDUCING WATER IN AIR TOOLSOne of the best ways to avoid water in air tools is to eliminate it at the source, that is, at the compressor.

While this is not the only thing that needs to be done (dryers, filters), elimination of liquid water from the compressor tank is the firststep and will considerably reduce the water that gets into the air distribution system and, as a consequence, the air tools.

A CRUCIAL STEP FOR TOOL PERFORMANCE

• Automatically lubricates a tool byfeeding a measured amount of oilmist each time the tool is cycled

• An effective alternative to larger, more costly units that may not deliverlubricant to the tool due to excessivehose length

• Provide instant oil flow so critical to

time cycled air tools such as staplersand nailers

• Will not leak lubricant into the air lineupon pressure drop or when discon-nected from the air line

• Attaches directly to the air tool inlet

Air tools cannot function efficiently without proper lubrication; the majority of toolbreakdowns are caused by inadequate tool lubrication. Lubrication of tools is thereforethe most important preventative maintenance activity.

This lubrication needs to be constant anddaily, ideally through the use of a lubricatorinstalled as close as possible to the tool.

Rubber, PVC, Polyurethane… there exists a multitude of materials forair hoses and each has its strengths and weaknesses. The properchoice of air hose based on application, environment and budget iscrucial to getting the maximum performance possible.

Venturi nozzle serves 2 purposes:

1 Air flow speeds up as it passes through the nozzle, drawing in ambient air through two side ports.Increased velocity and volume of air exiting the noz-zle boosts available thrust up to 250 %.

2Should the nozzle tip be blocked, the main air flowexits through the side ports. Static pressure at thenozzle tip is held to less than 30 PSI, satisfying OSHAsafety standards.

Just like for blow guns, vacuum performance is a function of airflow. Suction capacity is measured in inches of mercury, to indicatethe vacuum force that the vacuum unit can produce. Air poweredvacuum units often offer superior performance to other types.

Air powered vacuum units also overcome other serious short-comings of industrial electric vacuums by doing away with movingparts, therefore ensuring long service life.

Pressure before Pressure after

PRE-SET PRESSURE REGULATOR 317

62.202C27 PSI

Air tool users often tend to boost working pressure in the mistaken impression that this willimprove tool performance. This will not actually boost tool performance, but will risk dama-ging tools and causing an accident that could lead to injury. For example, where blow gunsare used, operating at a pressure over 30 PSI can be very dangerous to the worker.

Tamper-proof preset regulators cannot beadjusted and are therefore an ideal choice foravoiding these problems.

AVOIDING PRESSURE SURGES

SAFE PERFORMANCE

• Ensures optimal air tool efficiency by supplyinga constant pre-set pressure

• Increases user safety by avoiding pressuresurges

• Limits over-consumption of compressed air, thereby reducing energy costs

• Available for many commonly used pressurelevels from 15 to 115 PSI

Maximumpressure 30 PSI

Ideal pressure 90 PSI

TTEECCHH TTIIPP

• The ideal pressure for air tools is usual-ly 90 PSI

• Every 15 PSI of overpressure wastes6 to 10 % energy

• According to OSHA standards, blowguns should not exceed 30 PSI in orderto be safe

Pre-set regulators are an economical way to maintain ideal pressure!
