Thomas, M.D. Program Coordinator: Lillian Ramos Course Objectives Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: Identify recent discoveries in basic, translational and clinical research in selected areas of pediatric nephrology and renal pathology Assess diagnostic tools in the approach to children with common fluid and electrolytes disorders Evaluate pathogenesis, complications and management of children with cystic renal diseases and Congenital Anomalies of the Kidney and Urinary Tract (CAKUT), nephrotic syndrome and complement deficient glomerulopathies Assess the impact of growth and nutrition in children with chronic kidney diseases (CKD) and the effects of use of recombinant growth hormone therapy in their management More effectively manage children with CKD, dialysis and transplant and its complications Evaluate pathogenesis, complications and management of children with hypertension and reno-cardiac interactions Explain the process of how to apply for research funds and publish manuscripts Assess the importance of leadership styles and strengths to obtain successful outcomes Introduction to the routine handling, processing and reporting of kidney biopsies with a systematic approach in the diagnosis of medical renal diseases Assess the information obtained from kidney biopsies and its clinical correlation Course Syllabus This year the Syllabus for the Scientific Program is contained in a flash drive. All presentations are included in a PDF format. ACCREDITATION The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CREDIT DESIGNATION University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 26.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
